I have GOT to make some of this real soon...as soon as it warms up. I have all of the ingredients and a huge mixing paddle that I have misplaced. Time to locate it all and get ready for warmer weather and prop building. I had to laugh at the slinging it on to your wife's pants. I hope it came out. Thank you for sharing.
I had to come back and watch this again. I love that you didn't edit out that accident! I made monster mud all last summer after watching your video. I added 21 coats to the walls of my chicken coop! Yep, chicken coop. I still haven't used it on a prop. LOL Let me tell you, that coop is really well insulated now. :-)
Cathy Johnson Hi Cathy, people recommend to mix in paint to make it more water resistant, but in practice I have found myself not worry about the paint color so much because I tend to use solid exterior latex paint coats over the Monster Mud to provide better protection.
Can someone please tell me how this "stands up to the elements on a prop", as in RAIN ? I mean, it's drywall compound! You know what happens to drywall when it gets wet. Will this get soft again? Run all over? I know this is not a permanent solution to anything, but well, how long does it hold up? Will a few rainy nights before Halloween not do much at all to it? This will be outside after all.
I want to build a halloween tree this year using a concrete tube and paper, will monster mud be good for that? You did a great job ...much better video than the one I watched before yours. Thank you so much.
Nice! Easy tutorial to follow. I'm going to make a "Beloved" tombstone prop for my Halloween set up. I'm really excited to get this project done!
Great tutorial for a super versatile material! Thanks for the reference!!

Haha Thanks Mary!
Does the paint in the mix make it more pliable? I'm trying to figure out something that won't be as brittle as plaster of paris etc....
Bryan Paul saw someone use spray on truck bed liner it's waterproof and stiff
That was wonderful thanks. Do you need to mix it to the colour you want, or does it dry darker?

Is it waterproof?
Im thinking latex thinset would work and may be cheaper

I used monster mud over a styro foam tombstone and it worked great for that!
Don't for get yo add a little play ground sand for texture. feels like the real thing. it's more of an art than science though
