Hey Salta, great to see you making another video about Kazakhstan! One little note, Russian language is not the official language in Kazakhstan, rather it's a language used for international communication (as a convention, and not even pointed by the law). It's also worth noting that Kazakh language is one and only official language in Kazakhstan.
Article 7 (Constitution of Republic of Kazakhstan) 1. The state language of the Republic of Kazakhstan shall be the Kazakh language. 2. Russian language shall be officially used on equal grounds along with the Kazakh language in state institutions and local self-administrative bodies.
@@beketyermek6853sorry, this means: - Kazakh is the state language AND an official language of Kazakhstan; - Russian is a co-official language. “State language” and “official language” are two different things, since an official language is a language used in state institutions and “state language” means “State-promoted national language”.
Hi, I have been living in Kazakhstan for a few months and as a foreigner, I agree with most of the thesis. The funniest was for me when a lot of Kazakh told me that it was clearly visible that I was a foreigner. When I asked why they said, "because you are smiling too much" :D Maybe a bit exaggerated in emphasizing safety in this video. I've never met any unpleasant or dangerous situation either in Almaty or in Aktau.
Great tips! I'm moving to Kazakhstan soon, and it's good to know what to do or shouldn't do. It's not much different from where I come from (Brazil), it's actually quite equal. The biggest difference is that we smiled at everyone all the time, with the use of masks in the pandemic was being difficult even! Lol Thank you for the video!
Same here...i am Indian .. I am also going to Kazakhstan in next month .. In india if you smile to anyone they feels good . But in Kazakhstan it's different
У нас в Казахстане принято улыбаться тем, кто тебе действительно приятен. Если ты улыбаешься всем подряд, то у тебя с головой не в порядке или ты не искренен. Не могут человеку все нравиться. Хотя у человека может быть хорошее настроение.
Hi Salta. I'm Ali Mehtar from Afghanistan, I think I'm Kazakh too, (for real) because I'm finding me in Kazakh people. I love to visit your beautiful country one day for research.
Russian is not a state language, but it’s still an official language. To be honest, I think that “State language” is a poor formulation: “national language” is much better.
I am Serbian, my wife is Russian from Almaty. We live in the USA. I love Almaty and I love Kazakhstan. I felt at home every time I visited. Great city, great country. It was also easier for me to communicate because Russian and Serbian are both Slavic languages.
Everywhere in France or Switzerland we drink from tap water. Very good water. In Paris, it's considered to be one of the best water. And at least it's not polluting with plastic and costing dozen times less money :)
Salta 👋😁 as far as I am concerned you provide the best advice and help that anyone can give as far as informing America about Kazakhstan and your culture. I am trying to date A woman who is from Kazakhstan. She supposedly currently lives here in America. I have many questions that you have answered unknowingly. Thankyou very much for your personal observations and insights. 😁😁😁
A clarification coming from the Kazakhstani constitution: Kazakh is the state language, Russian is a co-official language as it enjoys official status together with Kazakh, but it’s not a state language. But I understand it’s a very sensitive issue. Few if no (ethnic) Kazakhs would ever say “I don’t speak Kazakh”, even if it would be true. Many people will say you that they speak both Kazakh and Russian, with the latter as a second language. Some will switch to English if they see that you are a foreigner. But, as a whole, if you speak Russian you’ll definitely need it, and if you learn Kazakh they will appreciate it. And I agree, saying that “Kazakhstan was a Russian colony”, let alone “is”, is a no-no: better to say “Kazakhstan was part of the Soviet Union”. And about current political events, while being mindful that the country needs to keep good relations with its neighbours while at the same time staying out of any conflict affecting them (so don’t judge them), it is better to be mindful that Kazakhstan, even more than Russia, is not a country where people like to discuss political or geopolitical issues, especially with strangers.
I was recently in Almaty and my mom is also vegetarian. Yes, there were a few vegetarian dishes but I think you will not find any vegetarian restaurants. Around the Zenkov's Cathedral are a lot of good restaurants.
Funny thing is that I was very surprised when I came to Almaty from Saint-Petersburg (Russia) 2 years ago and saw dozens of snogging couples on the benches all around the city (sometimes even in winter). In Saint-Petersburg this king of affection demonstration is not that common (although the society is much less conservative in general).
What about dogs? I have seen a few videos of Astana, but I don't see anybody walking their dog. Do people have dogs, can you walk them everywhere? Nice job by the way, your uploads are very informative and the country looks amazing.

Hello 👋 I currently watched your video while I search about Almaty wholesale market I am interested to make business in almaty is there any famous market?
Yes I agre, I don't like when people express their private feelings on buses, trains etc. That is exactly something private and that should be kept private. Also people that use their smile as some kind of weapon. It feels dishonest and strange. Smile should be spontaneous and be done together with others.
It seems that you Kazakhs too went throught the same Soviet man made famine like the Ukrainian's Holodomor where millions died during 1932-1933.I am not at all superstitious but the wood knocking and the fake spit Tuh tuh tuh) I do it too because I think it became an cultural habit.I noticed that they do it a lot in Asia and strangely we do it too here.Old people also don't broom at night after 6pm and I heard that it is also done in Ukraine. Its funny because I come from an island in the middle of the Indian Ocean.
Quite different. Kazakhs are traditionally nomadic people, and the famine was the consequence of the forced sedentarisarion imposed by the Georgian man with the big moustache. Little to do with Kulaks
As someone thinking about traveling to Kazakhstan, these videos make me not want to visit. It seems everything will make me sick or will end with Kazakh men being "aggressive".
The No Smiling thing is also a thing in the UK. I assumed it was just cause we're miserable bastards haha, like if you see someone smiling in the street you think they're insane for wanting to. Maybe we need to loosen up a little in that sense 😅
I am going all in on Kazakhstan. I'm half white, half korean and neither community sees me as one of them, even if I'm accepted. I want to be WHOLE! I want to be a whole Kazakh!
Thanks for sharing these important aspects of kazakh life with us. I'm half Kazakh and half Italian, so it's always a pleasure to discover new stuff about my culture. But as an LGBTQ+ person as well I understand you saying "try to blend in" or "Not look LGBTQ+" for safety reasons... But that's just not right, and it's pretty hurtful. If you have any friends from the community I'd like to see a video about how it's to be queer and Kazakh. Rakhmet for your time and your hard work!
Well, you can speak Russian and not being Russian. To make my point… just try to say an English-speaker from Dublin that he’s English. Anyway, if you go to Kazakhstan and you happen to talk about history, just say “under the Soviet Union”.
Shame on Russia that they assimilated you and killed so many ethnic Turks. On the other hand them seem to have helped you in some ways though. I am not sure if Turkey could have been such a big help back in the day. But still shame on Russia.

As an American, I find this concept of no affection or smiling in public odd,, and to me is the constant reminder of what communism is about ....robots and everyone being the same. I hope one day the youth of Kazakhstan changes this , it would be the best thing they could do to say.....We Are Not Russian !! And have their own Identity as a nation.
@@maxh7637 Oh I do understand that ,it's one of the things that makes America so great. There's no other country on the planet where people of hundreds of different cultures meld into one country. I'm not saying it's wrong either, as I stated I just find it odd as an American.
That was a lot of Word Salad just to tell us you haven't travelled much. Most of the world, including the UK Canada, Australia, New Zealand and all of Europe people do not walk around grinning like idiots for no reason. 1 advice I'd give for foreigners is to try to learn Kazakh. Locals would appreciate it a LOT!
