  • This video explains the proper ways to use McElroy Large Diameter Fusion Machines and Productivity Equipment to fuse large-diameter polyethylene pipe. The video explains safety considerations, the loading of the pipe, identifying a fusion standard and more. Our operator walks you through the clamping, facing, heating and fusing of the pipe, as well as how to calculate drag pressure, heat soak times, cooling times and more. For more information, visit www.mcelroy.com/fusion for additional charts and reference materials.
To demonstrate this video, McElroy used a TracStar® 900, MegaMc® PolyHorse®, McElroy pipe stands, and the ASTM F2620 Standard.

It would be better if you would have a videos where this machine working in a real conditions on slopes and remote areas

Great video, covers the basics. I am currently running this with some 36" Dr-11.

Good video but I think I would be a good idea to mention how much the weather like wind and outside temp can affect soak time, and the time you got from when you pull the heater plate to fusing. I do allot of fusing at work mostly 30" and I have done it in all kinds of weather from -30c to +30c and I have noticed weather makes a big difference when it calls for set times on heating and cooling.

As you can see, using this 1 million dollar piece of equipment is effortless. Every joint on this multi-million dollar job "only" has to be perfect. Every technician just has to spent a year using it to become an expert; let alone, trying to get enough experience with the rest of his or her life to earn a chance at getting a some mechanical license. Easily remove the need for mechanical joints that usually get tallied in the material list, (i.e., paid for by customer) and buy or rent one of these. which hopefully will be calculated in the cost after you low bid your self to infinity to get the job.

    Sure your machine looks flash.
How do you weld fittings with it?
Why can't it work out its own welding parameters and drag pressures with minimal input like OD and wall thickness.
Your system is designed to move as many tons of pipe as necessary to suit a machine that weighs 1 or 2 ton?
If the pipe ends and facing plate are cleaned properly to begin with for each joint then with care you'll never get a better prepared surface to weld without fiddling with it making it dirty again.
Using dry cleaning cloths will never remove oils from the weld area or in any way clean a joint affected by static.

Is there any testing required when doing these. Any pull testing ect to prove welds are good. or parameters to record when doing these welds?

But what if the pipe is oval?
This machine is not designed to eliminate roundness because the pipe is clamped by hydraulic cylinders. If you weld oval pipe, the beads will be uneven and this is unacceptable.

If it's to bent or oval u cut it off and beads don't have to b even

If you can't control ovality issues with a butt welder then you should give up welding. Ever thought of matching the ovality from one pipe to the next?
