To be at this show would have been a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I've seen pretty much every Garbage live video, and this one is unique for how early it is in the band's career, and for how beautiful and animated Shirley is. The energy is incredible.

I miss the early to mid 90s great music lots of creativity. and they sang and they played instruments.
Garbage started exactly mid and went til 2005, then 7 yr hiatus, and back at ya…. Totally agree otherwise. Xo cheers to the best decade ever for music….90s. 😊 70s is a close 2nd.
She’s so beautiful!!!! I’ll be 45 in a couple months and I’ve loved this band the day they came out. They never lost who they were over the years. Shirley Manson had never looked so beautiful in these early years. I wish I could go back in time and just live for this moment.

Great video of the band in their early days and amply demonstrating the alluring talents of young Shirley! What a master stroke it was by the Madison boys to recruit the Scottish mega talent, and still going strong nearly 30 years later !!

Heaven. Thank you for uploading this. This is great. Great stuff. Ive been scouring YT all night for 4 nights for like 6 hours a night just for stuff like this. What a gem. I am just gobsmacked at how early in their career this really is and how tight they are. I can see how she warms up over time during the gig. This clip also shows how they have now ironed out most of the technical problems they experienced at the gig. No more errant feedback, unless it is desired., or undesired volume levels. The crowd has fans in it, they sing the songs which is great.
Shirley has a range and timbre that's so captivating.

Finally got to see it. My friend Dan and I moved at the request of the guy who took this footage on the condition he send us a copy. We gave him our info. Never sent it, this is the first time seeing it. The crowd shifted the videographer to the side. Dan and I can be seen about the 46 minute mark. We also met Jewel who was there that night who was in the area for the Shannon Hoon benefit concerts. Have shared in other videos how she propositioned us to go with her to Landsdown Street. But we turned her down to see Garbage. Good memories.
Best move you ever did, staying and not going.

Thanks for uploading this. Well done vid for 1995. Even though it's shot from the pit must have been someone with the band, their label or the club who did it. I saw them once in late 95 and twice in early 96 so I'm getting a kick... "Supervixen" had one of my favorite guitar riffs at that time. One of those shows I saw they opened with that song, same as here. I think I was a little off that night. During the rest of that show I remember yelling at the band several times to play "Supervixen" again. They didn't. Talked with both guitarists after that show and they said they thought about playing it again because I seemed so passionate in my request. Maybe they were just humoring me, I don't know. Some of my friends at that time would get a little embarrassed riding with me because I drove around in blasting "Queer" loudly and repeatedly. Damn, I'm getting too nostalgic. Again, thanks for the upload.

Man, thank you SO MUCH for this. What an amazing moment, and everything is on tape. I'm curious: what exactly happened during "Only Happy When it Rains"? There is a brief cut, it looks like people got too excited and almost killed the cameraman ^_^
Also, very close to the end of Vow, the moment Shirley stops a guy who is banging his friend's head on the floor is priceless!
I just saw them 2 weeks ago. It was like my 10th time seeing them... It's amazing to realize that I've been following them for more than half of my life.

Same here! Though I'm pretty sure you may have been following them longer as I got into them around 2002/2003. But I've been a fan ever since though I haven't been able to see them in concert yet lol

I was at the concert they put on at the little club on Landsdowne street in Boston. I think the club is now the house of blues. I sat in the back and I still feel the base reverberate in my chest. A small mosh pit started out in front, but thankfully it didn't get violent. Mostly jumping up an down like an idiot.
the audio of this concert should be remastered, it's so great, it has a very grunge variants with drums and guitar as leaders. The studio versions are good but more electronic with the bass as predominant, I'm not saying they are bad, they are iconic, but the sound of this concert is incredibly good.
It's because they're not using any electronic backing tracks here. It's a rare glimpse of Garbage stripped to live instruments.

Ahh The Channel. Legendary rock club. I played there 6 times in 86 and 87. It was an amazing club. R.I.P.

At 48:38 at the end of "Vow" , she seems to get pissed at the meathead in the front row, who is rocking some other guy's head up and down with his hand.
The first time I seen garbage was in 1999 in Dublin. I wasn't a big fan but my girlfriend loved them and it was close to her Bday so.....They were incredibly good. Shirley can seduce an entire audience, with her voice and movement and even though I wouldn't go out of my way to buy a studio album, I've seen them 5 times since then because they are so good live. I love this recording though .

Checked the Garbage database for the date, this concert seems to be the December , 5th, 1995, WBCN X-Mas Rave at the Middle East Downstairs in Cambridge/Boston-MA.
Yep. Jewel was there that night but left before Garbage took the stage to go to Landsdown Street. There were fliers for Shannon Hoon benefit concerts at the show.
3-16-2017 - - - The sound is horrible but the video is amazing. I like it that Shirley didn't point the mike at the audience, which I find annoying at recent concerts.
I LIVE for those moments when she points the mic to the audience! :) After all we've all heard Only Happy When It Rains, When I Grow Up or Cherry Lips gazillion times by now, so it's always nice to spice things up with some audience interaction.

I'm not saying your wrong, but how do you know it wasn't their Nov 14th appearance at Axis, which I attended. I mean they we this raw then too. it's just hard to make out the club in the video
@@Starman973 Watching my DVD copy on a big screen TV it shows exposed plumbing pipes in the low ceiling above and behind Shirley. That might make this a basement club? The pipes would probably be quite a unique feature. Does anyone recognize the club from those features? (My copy is labelled 11/14/95 which would be the Axis date, if the label is correct that is.)
I was at axis show and I think they played stupid girl much later in the set. Stupid girl was a bigger hit by then.
@@Starman973 I know it wasn't because I am in the video and we made room for the videographer. Also remember the night because Jewel shoved her breasts in my face after asking my friend and I to leave and go to Landsdown street with her. That and the low ceiling, metal pipes just above the stage which artists would sometimes hang off of, the rail to the left of stage, etc. etc. It was at Middle East Downstairs.
@@peterdance9143 It's not correct, it was the BCN Christmas show...Duke Erickson told me about it the night I shot them at Axis...there was a HUUUGE difference in the crowd that they drew a couple of weeks later after getting some airplay.

Even for RUclips, the sound is plumbing new depths. I fixed it by muting the sound entirely and pretending she’s saying my name over and over into the microphone.
I have think Butch has a DAT recording from the sound board somewhere of this.
Can't blame the cameraman for not taking his/her eyes off Shirley.
I am a bit annoyed the the camera ai almost soley trained on shirley. I was begining to wonder if duke was even there. I can see shulman and steve but not butch. Great setlist.

Its actually the Middle East Downstairs in Cambridge, Ma. I'm 100% sure as my band played there many times back in the late 90's.
