      Me too. I already own a glass business and Nice I am about to get one too. I get a green works zero turn to plan to use it for my yard but also for my son and I to start working a few days a week mowing lawns. He is 15 and time to start working.

    Thanks for the comparison video! I have the green works commercial 60" riding mower and love it! I've saved so much in fuel and maintenance in the past two years. The only issue I've had is one of the three blade motors had a bearing failure. Green works quickly sent me a replacement since it's under warranty. I was able to replace the motor in about an hour. I do want to setup my 18ft enclosed trailer with panels and batteries similar to yours! Appreciate the ideas!

    • @electric6877
      @electric6877 3 месяца назад +2

      They really just need to make prosumer stuff better because stuff like 50 to 65cc gas is pretty mid range and it’s borderline entry level commercial or high end consumer. Greenworks 60v stuff is getting there but it just needs to be weatherproof. They have a 200MPH/800CFM blower that is pretty close to the BR600 and it works great but it just needs to be more rugged. It’s affordable compared to the BB361 just without the commercial grade level. I really want to try the BB361 but I haven’t been able to find it for sale tool only online

    Awesome video, love your content. just a couple critiques 😁
    Both mowers should've either been mulching or side discharging. Mulching is harder on your gear.
    The Ego has a "turbo mode" for the drive and blades 😉
    That Greenworks blower looks like a beast! 😮

    • @solarpunksteve
      @solarpunksteve  4 месяца назад +2

      That’s a good point! I do have a mulching plug on the EGO I normally use but took it off for the video. This wasn’t meant to be a serious comparison. I was very impressed with the greenworks blower! It was definitely more noisy and not nearly as comfortable as the EGO, but clearly more powerful.

    • @jordanharetuku9044
      @jordanharetuku9044 4 месяца назад +1

      @@solarpunksteve yeah, I took the plastic side flap off and 90% of the time I mulch, but come spring time, I may have to side throw. Uses less battery and it looks cleaner when it's too long.
      I love using all Ego commercially. Overheads are almost zero 🤣

      They seem to be, like a lot of the tool companies, jacking up the price to have them be their profit-making device. When you can often get a tool + battery for the same price as a battery, it becomes clear what they are doing.

    I don't think you showed it but I might have just missed it, does the Greenworks have removable batteries like the Ego? You showed the batteries for the Greenworks blower but I just wasn't sure if the mower used the same batteries or not.

    • @solarpunksteve
      @solarpunksteve  4 месяца назад +4

      Good question, I forgot to show that. The greenworks mower did not have removable. They are fixed. It’s about 8kWh in the model we tested. About 3.3kWh in my EGO.

    • @jameswarnock5655
      @jameswarnock5655 4 месяца назад +1

  • @chadpurser
    @chadpurser 4 месяца назад +2

    I see it has direct drive (blade attached directly to motors). Is there durability concerns with this? I.e., hitting a root? Don't most gas mowers run a belt?

    • @solarpunksteve
      @solarpunksteve  4 месяца назад +3

      Yeah both mowers have direct drive for the blades. The advantages are you can’t have a stick fly up onto the deck and get stuck in the belts or the belt snap etc. If you do hit a large root or something you’ll likely bend the blades, but the blade spindles don’t have any gears, so the electric motor likely will sense an over load and just shut off. I’ve had this happen once on the EGO when I hit a large log under some thick grass. Just cleared the log and the motor spun right back up.

  • @Jason4Star

    What is the cutting width of that Greenworks mower? It doesn't look like it is more than 36". For us Commercial landscape guys, I would love to see a mowing width comparison for those two mowers. Also - I will reply to yours tomorrow.

    • @solarpunksteve
      @solarpunksteve  4 месяца назад

      That Greenworks Optimus Z was indeed a 36in, but they have riders and standers that go all the way up to 60in I believe. And I know Mean Green Mowers has lots of models in various sizes too.
      My little EGO Z6 is 42in, but they have a 52in model with a welded deck, and a commercial mower hopefully coming soon.
      No rush Jason! Look forward to hearing back.

    I would personally rather sit and ride. I'm also not a professional landscaper. I assume there is some benefit to the standing ones? I see tons of professional places use them.

    • @SoManyDogs
      @SoManyDogs Месяц назад

      There are numerous benefits. It’s actually better on your back and less fatiguing to,be on a stand on because your knees naturally act as shock absorbers. They are shorter so you can fit more mowers on a given length trailer. The visibility is vastly better for tight spaces and they are more maneuverable. It’s far easier to hop on and off in case you need to remove debris. It’s better on hills due to a typically better centered, lower CG. It’s much much easier to bail if things go sideways, you just step off. I own both a Z turn and a Stand on and it’s no comparison.

      The commercial is 82v. They also have a dual volt 48v/24v lineup but most of the actual commercial tools don’t use it. The 60v primarily and 80v on the consumer/prosumer side is the best if you wanted to use it semi professionally though. I run a lot of tools on the 60v. Two backpacks, two weed trimmers

    5 hours of cutting per day? Thats not commercial.

    • @solarpunksteve
      @solarpunksteve  3 месяца назад

      That’s their lowest battery size for their “commercial” mowers at 8kWh, the others have 24kWh and larger deck sizes. I know some people that are running theirs for two days before recharging, it all just depends on your use case. If you’re mowing college campuses or golf courses, probably not going to get away with using electric, but a bunch of small yards in a neighborhood? Might be enough. In my case I just keep my EGO equipment topped up with my onboard solar charging, but I could likely get the same number of yards done with the greenworks without charging during the day.
