- Martin Ødegaard was known by football fans the world over when he moved to Real Madrid aged 16 and was tipped as the next big thing. But he then just seemed to disappear off the radar before popping back up at Arsenal where he's been one of the best midfielders in the league. So how did he get so good? Was he always this good? Join me for a story on how this boy wonder joined such a prestigious team, flopped, then reinvented himself out of the limelight, eventually picking himself back up off the floor and coming back with a vengeance to finally fulfil some of his early promise.

First time you watched him play for arsenal, it was clear that he had the potential to be 2nd best in the league behind KDB. He passed the eyes test with flying colours
I'm a neutral fan so I just say it as I see it. He's one of the best midfielders in the league and any team would be better off with him in it. Mad to think he still has a way to go to reach potential as he's still only 24 🤯
He has the potential to be better. He is better than kbd was at the same age. And I said "potential" before I get murdered for that comment I know how good kbd is
His ball handling and pressing/running is way better than KDB, but he has some way to go on the rest.
true, you could see that he had the technical skills but not the physical. Many players failed the physical harshness of the EPL, but he has improved both since.
You don’t have a clue at the same age KDB was ripping it up, as for ball skills KDB best in the world in his position MO nowhere near, when he regularly puts in 19/20 assists a season and score important goals against europes best he may be good enough but until then use your brain
First of all he has Never EVER been a bad footballer and trust me its hard to say as a Swede but since he plays for Arsenal he gets a pass ;) He has been an amazing talent since day 1 its just that Zidane didnt like that Real signed him without him having a say in it and thats one of the reasons he never really got the chance in Real and when i heard that Arsenal was gunning for Martin i thought there is no way in hell we will be able to sign him but then hell froze over somehow and he signed and i have been stoked ever since.
GG Today
As a neutral, with the way arsenal treats him, i would suggest for him to stay with arsenal. I can see him being one of arsenal lagends.
If he stays, and even improve. He will be known as one of the best ever midfielders in PL history is my guess.
He just signed a new 5 year deal 😊
@@NewDrovack He's half Bergkamp, half Ljungberg when you watch him. But he's also himself.
Amazing, amzing player!
Martin Ødegaard has always been a really good player - his strength is the technique and pass fot , i think some of the reason he didnt succeed inn Real alsow is his sometimes anonymos when given defens tasks and a position in team playing 4-4-2 he is stronger defens now - still on the Norwegian national team this is visible and the poor defens on the national team do not give him the same space like in Arsenal - Martin is a fantastic player on a fantastic team with a coach in Arsenal use his best potensial - he is not so dominant and point giver on the Norwegian national team - so i fotball its werry often the team and the way the hole team and manager are using strength of the player and players relationship on the field - he is Amazing for Arsenal and not so Amazing results on the national team - sometimes to anonymos and its not his fult its the Norwegian Coach and players together specific the poor defending giving him to much defens tasks its some better now under Solbakken - still yet a way to go and Norwegian national team did not make the qualify for EUROPEAN CHAMPION Ship and with Ødegaard and Haaland on the same team it shows - 1) The team you play for and players strength used combined makes the best players 2) you cant pick a national team and One player is nothing if hes not used the right way and with team mates and trainer
I want to see Odegaard at Arsenal until Modric age, and after we've won several PL and CL trophies. Really good video.
Thanks!
I see Martin Ødegaard, I click IMMEDIATELY ❤
Hopefully, at some point in the future, that will instead say "I see The Subs Bench, I click immediately" 😂 thanks for the comment 👍
He has always been the best he just needed more time to play even at Madrid
Agreed, amazing what happens when he's given game time
And here he is, signing a new 5-year contract. 📝🎉 Good video, btw, apart from the 'bottling' part; nothing you can do with a thin squad when your best CB gets injured, and when VAR 'forgets' to draw the lines (plus a handful of other 'mistakes' that they later apologised for). 😉
I know, I don’t support any team, so I say shit like that for comedic effect. For some the joke will land, for others it won’t, and I accept that 🙂 thanks for the feedback 🙏
@@Subsbench No probs.
Been watching him since he was 15 and followed every loan move - there was never any doubt except that created by a media that don't watch games.
Agreed, depends which media you read, my trusted football source is World Soccer as they know what they’re talking about, but other media such as Sky and BBC don’t have a clue what’s going on outside of the UK
@@Subsbench Amen
Well Zidane would disagree
Its funny how everyone forgets about the atleast 12 points of very dodgy VAR against Arsenal before Xmas. Almost as if it was set up for Arsenal too so call bottle it, oh the drama it couldn't havve been written, or was it? Besides that sour point of mine Odegaard has been solid and is worthy of being Captain and thanks to your video Im suddenly aware his early football career, and it all makes a bit more sense, his calmness, ability, finishing, experience before his age, everything, very happy he joined the Gunners and hope he does become part of something special.
Thanks for the comment! I appreciate you saying that you learned something from my video...as for the "bottle" stuff...I only say this in a humorous way, I'm a neutral fan so have no bias for or against any team, I accept my "humour" won't land with everyone 🙃
No worries, it was humorous for non Arsenal fans, maybe it was the beer or stupid long shift Ive just finished that set me off lol. Keep them going your doing good stuff. Respect :)
I'm an Arsenal fan been Odegaard fan since his early days at real madrid and fifa career mode lmfao but even i didnt know a whole lot of this
great video explaining everything
keep it up mate
Haha I don't play football games so much any more (I tend to buy FIFA every year, and PES before that, but don't really play them much) so I miss the days of finding some excellent talents before they make it big, going back to when I used to play games like Premier Manager 97 and the like 😂 I also like FM but don't have the time to put into it 😭 but anyway, thanks for the comment, appreciate the support!
He's the wonderkid who's finally realising his potential
1 goal, 2 assists in 12 in his initial short term loan deal.. people wanted Maddison instead, I was sure he was perfect for Arsenal 🇳🇴
Yes, I did enjoy this video and therefore I drop you a like ;).
A funny side note. During the last week, Ødegaard has been trying to prevent history from repeating itself. Not for him, but for Norway's new hot shot Antonio Nusa. Ødegaard and Haaland are probably coaching him in career choices. Check out yesterday's match between Norway and Georgia.
Thanks for the support! Yes big things expected of Nusa, he assisted both goals yesterday didn't he? Appreciate the comment
@@Subsbench yepp that's correct.
Wow, really cool underrated observation this “all of a sudden”, it’s true
Another great video keep it up
Thanks very much, appreciate the support! 👌
I was not expecting you to have 500 subs, that was such an entertaining video! hope you're gonna make more, ill be tuning in definitely!
Hey, thanks so much!! I plan on making more for a while just to see where the journey takes me. If I don't get many more subs I may need to quit as it takes so much of my time to make each video which seems pointless to me if people aren't going to be interested. But for now there is a definite plan to carry on. Your support is appreciated, I hope you have had opportunity to watch some of my other stuff, enjoy it and maybe even subscribe if you haven't already, the support I've had so far is what's keeping me going! Appreciate the comment, thanks 🙏
great vid, funny commentary. subscribed.
Glad you like it, thank you! 👍
if Real wants him, Arsenal need to sell it for 200m minimum hahahaha...
Not selling our captains any more.
Good content this. Props to ya.
Thanks so much I was worried nobody would like it!! Appreciate the support 👍
my new favorite football related channel. please keep it up
Wow, high praise indeed!! Thanks so much for the support! 🙏
@@Subsbench truly entertaining, more even. I enjoy the funny approach a very lot plus the content is also quite intelligent which combined won me over immediately. Hope to see more from you in the same vein. I'll be here supporting every time 💪
I appreciate that thanks! I'll try my best 👌
When we loaned him from Madrid he was the best player in our team the whole season. This is nothing new the guy is world class and has been for a long time.
Agreed, I covered this in the video, it was aimed at those who didn't watch him play during that time
Thank you for the break down
👌 hope you enjoyed
Martin Oh That Guy!😅
Great video!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! Subscribe for more 😜
Good content subscribed
Appreciate that thank you!
Not all footballers are born to fit in as a natural Arsenal player. He is one born specifically to fit in ; in a typical Arsenal set up
Glad that the legendary cameraman was there to record his birth 0:16
Two miracles happened, 1) the miracle of childbirth, and 2) the miracle of the cameraman being there to capture it all on film. Very lucky he was there to record that footage 😁
He has been good since he was 16yrs
He has although not showed it after his move to Madrid, it's only really in the Eredivisie and since that he has shown what he's capable of
He’s always been good, the media and all the hype beast fans were trying to put him down probably because he ain’t make it in madrid
Sometimes the game could be so simple. You join a team and play all the time.
Never a more true word spoken 💯
He will be the next Bergkamp
Legendary
Wow, high praise indeed
« All of sudden » broooo it’s been a long time 😂
I know, that's what I explained in my video 😅 to some who don't follow the Eredivisie or La Liga it's "all of a sudden", but to people like you and me we know it's not "all of a sudden" 🙃
Why dony you have more subs
Because the RUclips algorithm hates me 😭😭
What the future holds is Odegaard becoming a genuine Arsenal legend. Then when he want to go to real it’s gonna cost them a cool 2-300m. All arsenal need to do is tie him down to a long term contract and we’ll be laughing all the way the the bank and the Prem. Hopefully both.
He will never go back
@@FFKfanTVnot for £200m he’s not worth it
I did find it interesting where I could decipher the parts whenever the background music dropped in volume. Why on earth such a piece could be interesting about an interesting player, from beginning to end is crowded out by overly loud music, I don't know. I hope you understand my annoyance. And red on black graphics was too.
I'm always open to feedback to improve!! I'll keep an eye on the background music level next time, must admit I hadn't noticed it to be too loud but then again I knew all the words as I wrote the script so my brain probably just filled in the blanks....was there any particular point where you thought it was too loud to hear properly? And what about the text, I think your sentence cut off, you said it's too...something? I'm glad you still found it interesting though so I must have done something right 😊 I appreciate the comment / feedback 🙏
@@Subsbench Thank you for your understanding and friendly response. I left the "too..." hanging because I felt I might have got too harsh, so I stopped there. Personally speaking I was impressed with the narrative and I am aware it was scripted. I really do not like ad-libbing because only a few vloggers get it right (for example, Bhavss14, although deep down I believe he has a script but he delivers with absolute slickness, and loaded with material it's praiseworthy). The music at the start and for about 50%-60% smothers the narration. 90+ for text; 65% graphics; overall presentation 75%. You can do the math.
If it didn't work out the first time, it won't work the second time. Arsenal through and through
Just seems a really good match for them doesn't he
Captain Ø has gone and signed through 2028 for Arsenal today, since we're talking about the stability he craves
Must be great news for Arsenal fans
The birth bruh xddd
I imagine that was a very accurate reconstruction of the actual birth 😂
😂😂😂, deep cuts when talking about history
"Looks for pass before attempting to score" ppm successfully removed irl.
Madrid didnt use no 10 thats why he struggling so much there and of course they have modric and kross while at arsenal he basically target passing from CB or DM
Poor ending
In what way?
The song is actually making it difficult to hear what the author is saying.
Thanks for the feedback...someone else has said this and I'm going to be mindful of the music volume going forward
8:58 there's no way ... Arsenal l make sure that doesn't happen
Haha you'd like to think they'd do everything they can to make that happen...plus he may not want Madrid as it may have left a bad taste in his mouth before, who knows
He has not shown himself to be so good against great midfield players in great teams like Man City.
He can disappear in games.
Likely why he didn’t make it with Real Madrid.
It’s about confidence to get physically stuck in with intelligence and the commitment to get a job done.
Good luck to him.
Guess it's just him doing that sometimes?? Thou i do seem to remember Pep criticising KDB in the media last season for ghosting 10 games in a row or so...
@@FFKfanTVnever said 10 games in a row so don’t make shit up to help your argument
All of a sudden?👀
Yes that's the perception...he disappeared off a lot of people's radars for a few years. Hence the video title. But of course it's not "all of a sudden", and this video highlights that. A lot of fans here won't follow the Eredivisie or much of La Liga hence "all of a sudden". But we both know that it's not "all of a sudden" 🙃
Easy to forget. Before the season in Vitesse he could be considered finished, like so many other wonder boys before him. There were no guarantees at all when he joined Arsenal, and loan spell wasn’t spectacular. But here we are now.
@@Subsbenchfair play 😁 the title sucked me in as i used to watch him as a 15yo in the norwegian league and ive followed him ever since. You should have seen his debut season live, omg he literally silenced the crowd. The whole stadium just gaping, we have never seen anything like him and probably never will again.
When he joined arsenal the gunners were scheptical because.. well this quiet little blonde kid, but i told em just wait and see. Its the start of a new era at arsenal and here we are just two years later 🤷🏼♂️
This guy is the truth, he will define this era.
It's because he's been eating his wheatabix😅😅
Haha I should've included that
“All of a sudden?” You are not a serious person.
Have you even watched the video?? 🤔
since he was 15*
Sadly he still wouldnt start for real
Modrić and Kroos played tonight. Aged 38 and 33. They can't keep going forever. Chances are they'll need to be replaced at some point
All of a sudden?
That's the perception...he disappeared off a lot of people's radars for a few years. Hence the video title. But of course it's not "all of a sudden", and this video highlights that.
@@Subsbench I know what you mean, I guess I just view the “phrase” all of a sudden as being more recent than how you meant it. He definitely did have a few wilderness years at vitesse and wherever else he was.
@@voidoflife7058 exactly my point 😀 I'd imagine not many here follow the Eredivisie or even La Liga so it's like he disappeared and then reappeared being good...all of a sudden 😂 obviously for those like me who live and breathe football it's not quite "all of a sudden", but you get what I mean 😀
@@Subsbench yeah lol I get what you mean
he was always good certain ppl just needed to stop wanking over stats and watch him play
Agreed, stats are relevant in some cases but sometimes a player just needs to pass the eye test
As a neutral, I hope he get away from Arsenal and how the fan base treats him. He is arguable one of the top 3 mids in prem, yet Arsenal fans shits on him. Just look at Lee Gunner. He should join another team asap
Lee Gunner is part of a breed of armchair pundits who talk nonsense, the kind of person who knows nothing about football outside of his own club. Sorry 🤷♂️ I’d imagine a good proportion of the fanbase love Ødegaard and what he brings to the team
Well Rodri Bernardo Foden KDB all better which has been proven many times
@@bobofett3966 haha, what? Go on, prove your statement then
Mate... talk slower
I talk quick as I have a boring accent...if I talk slower, people will have to listen to it more and will get bored 😂 I've already recorded the next video but I'll bear it in mind going forward 👍
