    those are torx screws holding the clip on the sypyderco. t6 usually for clips. you can never go wrong with a spyderco imo, one of my favorite knife brands.

    • @HSalamista
      @HSalamista 5 лет назад +2

      BTW, the reason why the clip is on this side is for a right handed person to have it clipped inside of your right trouser pocket and to be able to take it out with one hand and open it up with your thumb or by a wrist movement to the side. It is a fast way to deploy it. The only disadvantage to this spiderco is its full steel handle, which can slip out of your hand. I prefer the Recon 1 Tactical series from Coldsteel.

    • @otobotrecords
      @otobotrecords 5 лет назад

      @@HSalamista I had the Recon1 in XHP with the tactical DLC coating. Great knife. Now I have the coating-less S35VN LE version, which is vastly superior IMO.

    Hey,
    He actually has two different Spyderco Harpy in the movie. When he says "good evening" and cuts the throats of the guy, it's a SS plain edge Harpy and when he slices the detective's belly, it's a serrated G10 handle version. Both are discontinued.
    Great movie. Also made me buy one, it's perfect for cutting open boxes. Enjoy yours! :)

    I found this Mini Turtle for 240€ new, take it on a Miltat Oyster with straight endlinks and its the perfect combo for my 7inch rounded wrist. It feels so smooth and comfortable, its my cheapest watch in my collection but from day one its my everyday watch. Color looks great, loom is amazing and it runs with 7 seconds fast per day. This affordable watch is all what i need and ther is no other watch for me persionally who coud be a better beater and everyday watch.

  • @daneg007
    @daneg007 4 года назад +2

    the "civilian" is a different knife altogether. it is much bigger, has a carbon fiber handle, and costs around $220-$300 depending on where you buy from. they are for the most part a serrated blade, however if you can find a plain blade model it will probably cost you between $500-$800 at resale prices. it makes the harpy look like a cute starter knife for a kid.

    Very good video, TGV. I was happy to see you combine a short knife review along with a short Mini-Turtle review. I just bought a Zero Tolerance 0450. I love it!!! It is now my EDC. I have been a Seiko fan for at least 30 years when my mother bought me a Seiko Quartz when I got out of the army. I own a couple of full size turtles along with a Samurai. I also own a couple of vintage Grand Seiko’s. My sister bought me a modern GS with the 9s65 caliber for Christmas several years ago. I love that watch. My EDC watch is a 9f62 Grand Seiko high accuracy quartz. I hope to see more knife and watch reviews from you..... the best of both worlds!!! Keep up the good work!!!

    I’m very excited to see a review of the Harpy! I got mine back in the late 90’s (maybe ‘98/‘99) when I started collecting Spyderco knives. Initially, I only bought the models labeled “Colorado Earth”, but was drawn to the unique style of the Harpy. Mine is not the VG-10 like yours, though; mine is the ATS-55. Haven’t had any problems, though!

I think hardlex holds up better then my saffire watches. My first Seiko and I love it. The cyclops is made of acrylic. It will scratch. The lume is bad ass and the indices are spot on. No chapter alignment issues. It's a must buy for sub $400 dollars. Dont forget it's a prospects. GREAT WATCH!

    - VG-10 blades have to be manufactured in Japan due to copyright. Spyderco
    uses different factories worldwide for different products. Flagship knives tend to come from Golden Colorado.
    - Hawkbills are like Karambits in that they were a utilitarian shape originally.
    - You need a simple set of Torx bits for that pocket clip.
    - Spyderco's FRN handled back-locks are far lighter. The ubiquitous Delica and Endura for example, look cheap until you research how perfect their design details really are.
    - Something like Spyderco's compression lock would allow you to close the blade one-handed more easily.
    - Spyderco's Sage line showcases a different designer's locking mechanism in each.
    - Their Ethnic series is also an interesting experiment in design.
    - The only thing most collectors don't like about serrated blades is that if you use your knife a very great deal, they become a pest to sharpen. Otherwise they work great.

    Hi TGV! Good to see a lovely Seiko again, and the Hannibal reference just shows how you connect things. I like that! Those "special allen key" is NOT an allen it is TORX. Read on that, it is better than normal allen keys because the bigger torque transmitted without damage or popping out. Used widely in everyday cars, nicer bicycles, motorbikes, kitchen goods, computers and ugly watches. You need a set of T6, T8, and T10 for your smaller toys and good to have T20 and T25 too for normal screws. Take the bigger ones to the garage. :)

    Greetings,
    Every once in a while I see one of your videos when I’m looking through your archives and I say to myself this is my new favorite video. I particularly enjoy your Seiko videos. The interest and respect you have for the history shines through in your work. It is fulfilling on many esoteric and esthetic levels. If you ever happen to review another Spyderco, which is a family owned business started by Sal Glesser and now cooperatively run by he and his son. There’s an opportunity to review that company’s history; particularly their collaboration and promotion of knife designers, both established and up and coming. So yeah, that’s my challenge. Respect. Also the intro to the $400 diver video, capolavoro.

    Tristano, nice review! Some additional related info: this Spyderco model is named after the powerful Harpy Eagle for an obvious reason. Also, the slot in the handle is used to gain leverage when opening an uncooperative sailing shackle. It's tapered shape allows it to fit several shackle pin sizes.

    It took some time for my harpy to brake in. Now it deploys much smoother and Ive managed to learn how to close it with one hand. Indeed the tolerances and the overall build quality is absolutely top notch, just what you would expect from Japan. Ive bought mine about three years ago from amazon for about 75 bucks and since then the price has gone up. Now its around 115. It is certainly one of those knives you would pass down to generations. Awesome review mate!

It has the potential to just open someone up with a casual swipe. And Florence....best place in the world to go shopping!!! The spirit of the renaissance is still fresh in the air there. Well done.
    The Harpy blade was pattern after the Harpy eagle craw. Yes, it's a hawk bill blade shape but after a craw of the worlds largest eagle.
    In the past the knife came in two configurations. All stainless or fiberglass-reinforced nylon handle.
    You are correct, it was designed for someone working on a boat or more to the point fishing boat. You hook the rope to be cut under the blade and pull up to cut.
    The clip is set up tip down because most military's teach their troops to carry their folders that way.
    I have one an carry it often.
    Okay what now? Ooo yes, bowls in or bowls out.

    You should read "Lake Success" by Gary Shteyngart that has so many horological references you'll be obsessed for weeks TGV. Greetings from El Salvador.

    Hey buddy love your vids... just got a Skx007 and Apple Watch Series 5. I’m in the military and tell you digital is the way guys and gals rely on these days. G shock and smart watches are the norm. I love my SKX but can’t rely on it and we only live once and I see from your vids you are reluctant to review the Apple Watch but you should be open and do it, I’m sure your viewers would love it. Maybe one day quartz and automatics will be the thing of the past which they honestly already are. But when the lights go dark we should never forget the ancient technology that was to continue horology such like a sun dial. Embrace the future but never forget the past!

    Got myself the padi baby turtle when I helped my sister to get all the stuff she had in Hamburg back to Luxembourg as a small souvenir and reward 😊 Great watch and an absolute strap monster and even suitable for very tiny wrists 👍🥳🥳

    That opening in the scales on the Spyderco is for busting sailing shackles... Very useful on modern sailboats.

    I love the Harpy, might need to pick up another one. Have also owned the Spyderco Civilian which is a completely different and rather wicked blade. Cheers!

    I am looking forward for the review. Glad you are reviewing it.
    I have about the same wrist size as you and were looking at smaller watches.
    Speaking of smaller watches have you looked at SRPD97/99 or SARY147/149?
    They sound rather nice on paper, with 38.3mm diameter, 43.6 lug to lug, dual curved saphire and signed crown!
    Wondering if you could review it.
    I don't think they are released just yet, but some online store seem to already have it so I'm not sure.

    I wish you could do some of those culture/books videos again. They always broadened my horizons. :)

    Nice video! Since you're into pocket knives, you have to hold a Mcusta Take! You'll end up buying it, no doubt about that. The quality and finish is second to none, I can tell you that. Keep up the good work!

      Thank you :D
      I will certainly check them out, this is the first I have heard of them.
      Best regards,

    Deejo is indeed a French brand and the hawkbill Spiderco is a derivative of a karambit, which is an Indonesian mini sickle that was used by farmhands and was then reappropriated as a weapon later on.

    I ‘ve never really been into knives. But watching this up and close review, one gets to appreciate the quality and craftsmanship of the good ones. On the watch front, I have a full size PADI Turtle, a very handsome watch, but not a great bezel action, at least on mine, no hacking seconds for some mysterious reason either.
