Something I've noticed about this dude is that atmosphere and "ambiance" might be some of the most important things to him creatively. In video games, anime, television, and of course, the production of his own channel. The way he inserts himself into settings (with a green screen) and interacts with these artistic environments-the music he chooses, the compositions and editing choices he makes-even going the extra mile with acting (5:50) and humor. Internet Pitstop is a vibe, in and of itself. Watching these videos, it DOES feel like an actual pit stop on the internet to rest at, and vibe at. It's actually kinda meta that he makes videos about atmosphere, presenting them in the way that he does.
There's a lot of commentary channels on the internet. But this guy has saturated his brand with far more than just commentary. I don't just feel like I'm learning watching these videos, but rather it's an entire experience.
And he didn't have to choose this route as a YT Creator-he could've just been a faceless voice laid over gameplay. Yet he chose to go the extra mile, the extra lightyear! Each video is a true work of art. You can tell he put love into every aspect, and deliberates over every second of his presentations. For going above and beyond (simply writing just) the script... and for creating an inviting, nostalgic, and sentimental pit stop on the internet... I express my thanks.
(And, I should've done this much sooner, but I will now be joining the Patreon supporters to continue to fuel this man's creativity and this community's safe haven. Heck, I'm pretty sure it helps RUclipsrs out when you purchase from their sponsors too... so I'll make an order from Hello Fresh while I'm at it.)

Wow man thank you so much for this comment and your support. And it’s funny cause you are right I do think a lot about the vibe or atmosphere on my channel. Much like adult swim, I don’t want it to be just another channel I want it to be it’s own little world and experience. Rereading your comment made me realize I actually am even more obsessed with this idea of atmosphere than i thought, so I really appreciate this.

You're very welcome man. Coincidentally, your Adult Swim video was your first video I saw!! I remember you saying the bumpers in your videos were inspired by it. It clearly impacted your creative direction.
I'd agree that "little world" is the best way to put it. Watching Adult Swim at night did feel like entering a "little world". I can't call many other YT channels "little worlds", yet you achieved exactly that in your catalogue. You're on to something!
Hope to see your community continue growing. Can't wait to meet some of them in the Discord. Cheers

I'm surprised you didn't talk about Skyward Sword, that game's atmosphere makes me always feel like I'm living in some beautiful oil painting, the dungeons can be terrifying, atmospheric and calming, Skyloft feels like a cozy home and when you're flying around in the vast sky you can almost feel the wind on your skin. Funnily enough the most linear Zelda of them all is the one that gives me this sense of growing wings and soaring freely through the clouds
Edit: With that said, Twilight Princess and Majora's Mask are by far still my favorites

The little moments of Zelda games, imo, are the things that elevate them so much. Little attention to detail, or world/character building things that didn't have to be there, but were put there anyways because the dev team cared so much about the product they were making. The injured soldier in Ocarina of Time during the section after getting the Ocarina of Time but before getting the Master Sword. Or the little character interactions all over Majora's Mask that give so much insight about them, such as the section where Anju's mother talks to her about her fears that Kafei may have cheated on Anju with Cremia. A completely missable and even hard to find interaction that most players won't see. Stuff like that does so much to sell the setting and atmosphere, to make it feel like its own little world.

The vibes are stuffed into every single bit of Majoras Mask. It's one of my all time favorites, the mask animations are one of the only animations I've ever been genuinely freaked out by.
I've always felt that Majoras Mask is about the futility of trying to accomplish everything/be perfect in life. It's about the reality that there is no perfect path where everything always works out, even if you're the Hero of Time, the reality that everyone goes through suffering. Being exposed to every persons plight in a way that you can help with while simultaneously trying to stop the over arching issue of the moon within a 3 day span is a lot. There is not enough time for you to do everything in one run, and some stuff stops you from doing others, i.e. you can't save the bomb lady AND get the Sun Mask in the same cycle. There is no cycle where you get to help everyone, and I can't help but feel the game is telling a story there.

For me, Majoras Mask is a rare example of a game that truly transcended it's medium. The 3-day cycle, which you can freely move through and explore, allows this deep and meaningful presentation of these characters as they transition from daily life into impending doom. All of these characters you can interact with as many times as you like, try different things at different times, maybe fixing their problems, but the small number of lives you can fix are ruined once again at the end of the cycle. This multi-faceted approach, combined with sorrowful and often beautiful writing simply brings these characters and stories alive in ways that are just not achieved in other games.

Isn’t it wild that a large number of us voluntarily walked through the Temple of Time? I distinctly remember not running. It’s why we don’t run through the coliseum in Rome… it’s why we don’t walk on church pews… why we don’t yell in beautiful areas.
There’s a Gaelic concept of “thin spaces”… those spots where the veil between the divine and the temporal start to overlap a little. They can be different for different people but generally share common characteristics of being invested with value and meaning. Of course I think in the same way quality novels can transport us before God… so too can transcendent games.

There's some bias in this for me, since Twilight Princess is my favorite Zelda game/video game, but to this day my favorite moment from any Zelda title is when you're running as Wolf Link, carrying Midna on his back to save her. I've played TP so many times at this point, but every time, the urgency to help her is still there (just wish Midna's Lament didn't cut out every time you came across an enemy; it ruins the moment).
Honestly, TP's overall atmosphere is my favorite from the franchise. The soundtrack, the sound design in the temples and dungeons, the orientation of the cutscenes, everything. It's all so beautiful.

    • @anzaia2164

The music cutting out underlines this all too well: the atmosphere of that moment is _incredible,_ it is huge and palpable and it is the result of a lot of details working in unison. And it is fragile; the music changes and it _ruins the atmosphere._ And yet, it was powerful enough that we all remember it as one of the best moments of the game.

Man I teared up during the Majora's Mask portion, when talking about the people's stories.
The NPCs in Majora's Mask are without a doubt, some of the most real feeling characters in any video game, ever.
It's heartbreaking to hear and see people react to something so horrifying and unescapable.
Once when I was a kid, I was sick and had to stay home from school. I had recently learned about Ben Drowned, which I found incredibly interesting and spooky in the best way. So as I lie in bed, I watched a Let's Play of Majora's Mask on my dinky little tablet. It's what got me interested in Zelda. A year later, I got Wind Waker HD, which became one of my favorite games of all time.
I'm more of a Mario fan. Always have been, and I always will be. But Zelda never ceases to hit something in me that nothing else can. The atmospheres are so unique, and they can be so _real,_ that they just get to me. I can't imagine who I would be today if I never got into Zelda. I know there's no way I would've made it to this point without getting into Zelda, especially after Breath of the Wild, but man. It's had such an impact on me.

Tears of the Kingdom had a fantastic atmosphere for me, whether you're running around the Surface seeing what the people of Hyrule can do once they've finally got a foot underneath themselves, or the somber lonely vibes of running around the Zonai ruins in the Sky, to the feeling of constantly having to stay alert and on your toes in the Depths. Finally, that fantastic final confrontation with Ganondorf is one of my favorites in the Zelda series. I hadn't felt that intimidated facing Ganondorf since playing OoT3D as a teenager.

Your twilight princess video auto played after a podcast I was listening too while driving to my grandmother's house. That was the beginning of a heck of a rabbit hole and I binged nearly all of your content, highlights being the twilight princess video and the dark souls atmosphere video among many others. Only halfway through the video but it's again exemplary. Keep doing what you are doing and helping us 20-something year olds hold on to a bit of our childhoods. Phenomenal as always, and if I ever decided to make content, I would aspire for it to be a quarter as enthralling, captivating and wholesome as yours.

And yeah, the way the Zelda series seems to effortlessly dance between wildly different, yet equally mesmerising atmospheres might be the main reason I love the series so much, especially when you consider how much music affects atmosphere. I am kind of bummed that Skyward Sword was left out of this video, as I think it has a couple of the most atmospheric dungeons from the entire series and the Faron & Lanayru regions have some really special areas, but I know we can't have everything . I just love how you just talk about these things that you always thought were special, and just talk about them like your having a whole conversation. The atmosphere of these Zelda games, and the other ones you’ve talked about are truly amazing; but I think the atmosphere of your own videos are even more amazing. Because here you are after playing these games, whether in your childhood or as an adult, talking about how much you love them and being able to get across what changed you or helped you understand things you’ve never really thought about before. I love to watch you videos a lot, especially when I’m drawing and I need some good background noise. I don't know what it was but something about those places felt eerie to a point of almost being comforting. I still have a playlist full of twilight princess ambience to this day.
Your section at the end of the Majora's Mask segment was amazing too, the bit about the wedding, both for the developers and anju/kafei had me in tears it just hit so hard. It's just numbers and pixels but the weight of that game's atmosphere is still so unreal and conveys such a strong urge to save those people.
