  • Big engine in a small car is a popular recipe and works brilliantly for this rare BMW E30 333.

    One of the beautiful BMWs to come out of South Africa 🇿🇦 apartheid motoring history. It’s an iconic car here in South Africa, the sound of that straight 6 just never gets old

    Even here in South Africa thes are quite rare.

    Was a nice car....Only issue I ever had was that little U-shaped radiator hose that kept blowing on the track...

    No disrespect intended but this was not a comprehensive review in any terms of history, options, performance etc.
    Very unique car - true unicorn.

    If I had to value that car it would have to be quite close to $100 000. If not more. The only one I have seen(In south africa) was at the BMW M festival and was owned by BMW.

      Carl Rhode Retread SAF here living in New Zealand, there was one for sale here not that long ago. It was expensive but nowhere six figures, rare doesn't necessarily mean valuable. E30 M3s command higher premiums and even then, sit for ages.
      Might be different elsewhere with a bigger market. *¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    You're not wrong saying that these rarer than the M3 model, only 210 333i's were produced, compared to the 17 970 M3's.

    • @vladk8637
      @vladk8637 4 года назад

      Even rarer are the 333i Turbo (400BHP). Only 5 of them are said to have been manufactured. No one knows what they became.

      @@vladk8637 dont believe there was ever a factory turbo. Is the reference you make to one that was 450bhp and 520ft lbs?

    • @vladk8637
      @vladk8637 4 года назад +1

      @@grahamh6444 I found a reference on them from whichcar dot com dot au :
      "333i Turbo
      Just a handful of monstrous turbocharged 333is were built using a modified version of the E23 754i engine (also a South African special) for a mad model that is even rarer and significantly faster than the others above.
      No more than five are thought to have existed and it is not known where the survivors are now if any live to this day at all.
      Reports say the boost could be turned up with power stretching to the region of 300kW in the days before ESC and traction control, so we would not be surprised if all the 333i Turbos eventually met their maker, and we don’t mean the Rosslyn factory."

      @@vladk8637 Ok thanks that is interesting I have a 333i turbo but it is aftermarket so would have been very interested. There was I belive Dinan tuned ones that offered side mounted intercooler for the 745i IIRC.

    Its the opposite. They were constrained and couldnt get any touring cars to race due to sanctions so they built their own as well as the kadett superboss. They raced the two cars in a class called group N and then turned their race cars into a production car that they sold to the public

    • @h1017412

      Edward Jason Barbier I remember those Opels, the Super Boss was the car to beat until the Nissan Sentras came in.

    • @CharlesRWJones
      @CharlesRWJones Год назад +2

      Not quite true. In order to qualify to race group N, manufacturers had to build & sell 200 of the model first. Each of the 333i's were numbered x of 200 on a plaque on the door post. My brother had 1, ( 162 of 200 if I remember correctly ) also white like the 1 in the video. They were a mismash, 3 series body with a 733 motor & 535 gearbox. As the commentator said, no power steering. Also not 100% true. You could get them with Either power steering Or aircon, but not both, as there wasn't enough space in the engine compartment. That was why the battery was in the boot. Awesome car.
