Innate Passage was without a doubt one of the best 2022 releases. Looking forward to this interview.
100% it is.
This was a fantastic conversation from
One of the few current bands who are on autobuy for me.
I didn't see this one coming. So, very cool. Elder is one of those bands that have been on a musical journey since the first album....an I've been enjoying the ride ever since.
After watching this interview I wanted to check out the band so the first thing I watched on RUclips was Elder live Freak Valley Festival 2022 and I thought they were great, now I have to check out their discography.
I'd definitely drive for 2 hours to see Elder - Fortunately I only had to travel for 45 minutes to the Manchester UK gig. Looking forward to your next visit to these shores. Also - DELVING!!!! gonna check that out ASAP!
A handful of newish bands make me go Holy crap this is freaking outta sight and Elder probably tops that list. Many thanks to Nick for great music and great interview.
great interview Pete! thank you!!!
Like you, I'm 56 and from the tri state Elder and King Buffalo are my favorite bands over the last few years (causa sui) would round up my top 3.
What a cool surprise for today!
Saw these guys last night open up for Tool,I was truly impressed with these guys
This man's musical output in the last 5/6 years has been unbeatable. Between Elder, Delving, Eldovar and now Weite he's been unbeatable. Can't wait till November to see them again.
just saw them play live and was the first time i heard them! opened for tool!
I discovered Elder with Gold & Silver Sessions and now I'm a huge Elder/DiSalvo fan. His solo project Delving is killer as well. Nick is a superb songwriter and guitar alchemist!
Probably my favorite album of last year
Awesome, you`ve been doing some really great interviews lately. Elder`s latest album is killer. you seem to have your finger on the pulse.
Comes across as a thoughtful self effacing guy who leads one of the most exciting bands in recent years. I hope the band gains more support as they surely deserve it.
Tool tour upcoming🤘🏻
Look forward to this Pete. Can't stop listening to their last couple albums
Thank you Pete for the fun and insightful conversation with Nick DiSalvo. Exploring this band on your recommendation and enjoying the heavier symphonic prog and space psych songs.
Very cool. Don't recall you mentioning that you had an interview with a member of Elder. It was because of one of your reviews that I got turned on to them. It was for Omens. Interesting to hear him say that Elder isn't that much of a Prog band. To me, they are. When I listen to Omens, I'm reminded of bands like Yes, Pink Floyd, and Eloy as much as a band like Black Sabbath.
F Yeah! The new Lp is insanely good, grabbed both the German white and US lavender variants!…can’t wait for new east coast dates!
Nick is such A cool guy... Elder, Ruby the Hatchet. Are worth SEEING... I'm going to CT show... thanks Pete... see yah Nick
Elder kicks so much ass man. The journey thier music takes you on it out of this world and legendary. Hopefully they are around for many many years.
Nick, if you see this comment I just want to tell you how impressed I am with Innate Passage. Y’all have definitely leveled up with this one. Seriously a magical collection of songs on this album. Can’t wait to see where Yall go next.
Innate Passage is so damn god, the perfect evolution of their sound... I am so enjoying on my headphones it in my long walks in the nature..long life the the Elder
I think of Nick as a 21st century Jimmy Page who sings - riffs, writer, engineer, producer, bandmate, vision, cool vibe. I love the length of the songs - soloing, keyboards, spacial landscapes, and power. I hope we see a live release from this 2023 tour. My Bandcamp stash is filled with all the Elder albums. I look forward to hearing more powerful soundscapes. Great interview, thank you!
Very cool interview, Pete. Elder, King Buffalo and Isobar are three bands that I've been listening to a lot lately, based on your December countdown and review. So, thanks for that!!!
As usual/ tremendous interview. Nick was awesome as well. Much enjoyed 👍💯
Thanks fir a great interview, and introducing me to this band.Innate Passage was one of fav albums for 2022.Cureently checking out their catalogue..Thanks Pete....
Elder is opening for Tool in 2024. I'm happy for them.
Nice surprise to see this interview pop up! I'm a bit surprised at Nick's reluctance to chat about prog, because in chats years ago he'd turned me on to the likes of Anekdoten, Soup, Needlepoint and others. Would also be curious to hear a bit about his job at Stickman. Another time!
In the regard, he reminds me of the members of Genesis. If you listen to their interviews, they said that they turned to Pop was because bands like ELP and Yes were better at Prog
Great interview. I started listening during COVID. Bought Omens after reading about the band in Revolver magazine. Quickly bought the whole catalogue. I think they cover all the heavy bases from the late 60s and into the future. Going to see them for the first time in Philadelphia in September. Looking forward to many years of new music.
Excellent interview! Nick comes across as an incredibly likeable guy, as well as a musical genius.
don't let it get as dark in your new home as it is here in the home you left. keep it light!
Great interview Pete. I will definitely check out Elder. Nick was a very cool. 🤘😎🤘
A well done and interesting interview. Pete is THE man for music on RUclips!
Hell Yes! Can't wait for this!
One of my top ten bands at the minute, looking forward to their Electric Ballroom gig in London soon.
Great interview. One of my favorite newer bands as well as King Buffalo
Highly recommend his other project, Delving. Very guitar oriented instrumental music, more intricate arrangements and less heavy than Elder. Could be called proggish
Was going through the comments to see if anybody already mentioned Delving, otherwise I would have ;-). Yup, great prog/psych/kraut/post-rock/electronica instrumental album. Everybody buy it and support this artist!
Loving the great interviews as of late.
I never really associated Elder with Prog either. Everyone throws it around but for me once Lore came out they became their own genre which is “Tour guide through space and time”. That’s how I think of their music
Yes Elder!! thanks Pete
Yes, another Delving recording is otw! I'm a huge fan of Elder, but Hirschbrunnen is still my favorite release of the past few years.
Thanks, guys!
Excellent job on this interview, Pete!
I will be seeing them in Providence in June!👍
What Nick says about the European scene is only true for rich EU countries. I live 2 countries away from Germany, just outside the union, and my scene is completely lifeless and cut off from all the cool festivals and happenings. Nobody comes to shows, bands dont get record deals, venues are constantly being hounded by police, leaving the country requires a mountain of paperwork. Its honestly a nightmare for all local musicians.
Good stuff!!
And up next they will be opening for Tool next year, playing Madison Square Garden etc. How cool is that?
Maybe catching the Montreal show otherwise I’ll be catching northeast dates in the fall
What are the Canadian dates???!!!
I think thiers A Montreal date
