Nuno had twice done the whole inspiration thing. 1990 with the get the funk out solo. He went stratospheric. He was even on Forbes! I guess it helped Washburn sell a million guitars. This year, Rise did the same thing. Extreme as a band are insane. They always have been - 1989 to date ❤
There's a little interview I heard from Nuno saying the solo includes little remnants of Eddie as a tribute to EVH. Eddie a huge influence to Nuno, like many guitar giants out there. Many feel he is kind of taking the reigns over (with huge respect) of Eddie, as a guitar God, influencer, rhythmic master, and virtuoso because he, in his own way, carries many traits that made Eddie who he is, including the rhythmic timing Eddie also had. Nuno's a pretty decent drummer too, if you've seen. Great reaction. My first time hearing Extreme with their Pornograffitti album, I was completely blown away. With this new world of technology, hopefully way more people discover this sleeper band from the 80s-90s that just woke up again! Time to rise again
I grew up a few miles away from the members of Extreme in Massachusetts and the local radio stations were supportive of them, so I became aware of them very early in their career. I saw a Nuno solo gig in NYC when I was going to graduate school in the 90's and it was amazing how effortless his playing is. On a side note, I met Pat Badger a couple years ago at an outdoor gig my band was doing and he was a really nice, humble guy.
Yeah, that's the frustrating thing about Nuno, it always seems like it takes zero effort to do what he does. I wanna know what deal he made at the crossroads.
@@PrymalChaos Nuno grew up in a musical family as the youngest of ten kids. He has said that there was music of all kinds in their house when he was growing up.
Palm Muting.. give him that percusive sound and that clarity you don't get with other players. You hear it in Play With Me and a few others. Flight of the Wounded BumbleBee comes to mind too. Classic Nuno
He has used dotted 8th delays on things before (most notably Flight of the wounded bumblebee), but this is a lot of open strings, hammer ons from nowhere and some really tight picking. My all-time hero - can not wait for the new album to drop on June 9th. (My birthday.... Coincidence? Probably, but still) :D
Oh, man! You didn't mention the Extreme album "Saudades de Rock" from 15 years ago. You missed an absolute GEM when you strayed from them. You HAVE to listen to the songs (in particular...) "Comfortably Dumb", "Star", "Run", "Interface", and "Take us Alive".
Yeah there are some great songs on that album. And the Live DVD they released from that album is amazing. My favorite song from Saudades de Rock is Comfortably Dumb. Love that riff
Yeah i've seen him play this live, and he's not all up and down the neck w/ that cool delay part of the solo. So, he's definitely "video" playing it up. But it's still freakin' cool.
You gotta keep the viewers guessing! Haha. I remember being 14 and trying to figure out what he was doing in the Get the Funk Out solo, by watching the music video. BIG MISTAKE. Hahaha.
My first concert when I was 15, pfff long time ago :). Since then I've always been a fan of nuno and extreme, they always were different and more versatile than other (hard) rock bands. This proofs they still got it if you ask me.
Back in the 90s when I discovered Pornograffitti I thought I was going out of my mind because I couldn't find anyone else who appreciated Extreme. People obviously knew 'More Than Words and maybe Whole Hearted, but it was such a desolate fandom here in Australia. To this day it always feels exceptionally weird when I come across someone else who loves them. 😆
As for that ringing tone on the 2nd half of his guitar solo… Check out the song which name escapes me at the moment from the "waiting for the punchline" album. ("Leave Me Alone"...?) You can hear this effect in the opening of the song. He is simply just using a delay that is set to feedback really really quickly and loudly. Almost like a loud reverb done with the delay pedal. It gives it that weird ringing. It sounds like he is using a pedal set that way and flips it on towards the end of the solo. It's beautiful.
sooooo goood, yeah? like you said..they "We never went anywhere....oh you forgot who we are? BOOM......this is what we do mate" and how actual Extreme is that?
If you watch his ,Rick Beato, interview. Its a box thats called, Rat box, iirc. No delay. It punches the mids,REALLY HARD.so when you palm mute its realy hits. But theres no delay or anything else. Its all in the hamds
This is the best review of "Rise" I have seen yet. I am not a musician, but I have always loved Extreme. You are the only reviewer that I have seen yet that picked out something that really stuck out to me. And that is the cleanness and clarity of Nuno's picking. IMO, Extreme has never fit into any genre. Also, Pat Badger often gets lost in the reviews, but he is a top notch bass player. Their drummer is Kevin Figueroa.
New guitarist: WTF is he doing...That is Cut stuff Older Guitarist: F'n Nuno showing me I should hang up my guitar again. I Am an old dude, I got to jam with a couple of names in the 90s, scott Ian being my most remembered. I have jammed thought some of these setups and I always sound like me, a lot is in these guy's fingers.
That's very flattering but my paying was really rough and I'm fairly certain my guitar was out of tune! 😆 I appreciate you watching! I'm pretty excited that these guys are still killing it! I need to check out the other two singles.
haha a few things. I'm also a HUGE Extreme fan ever since My singer (Female btw) back in the 90's came with Get The Funk Out and said we should play it. We had a cover band back then. So we did and ever since then i've been a fan. So it was great to see a reaction video from someone who actually knows the band and is not just following the youtube "trend". Pls make sure your guitar is in tune next time 😂😂😂😂😂 Are you gonna do a reaction to their two other songs Rebel and Banshee as well? if so i'll sub to your channel. cheers ;)
Hahah. Yeah. I haven't picked up that N2 in forever. Needs some work. The frets on it are so worn down it's almost unplayable. I've been meaning to get it re-fretted and to swap it back out to original pickups. Maybe one day.
"It could all be in his fingers" I think a good bit of it is. Not saying he isn't using some electronic shenanigans, but that's just his sound. Related story. I played cello in an orchestra for many years, and we had a world class pianist that played with us. She did things on piano, harpsichord, and organ that I didn't think were possible. Including once when we were at a small venue and they provided the piano. It was a piece of junk, badly out of tune and sounded like crap. She tuned the damn thing in about 20 minutes just before curtain. And then proceeded to play beautifully as usual. I'm thinking, WTF is this sorcery? You're just hitting keys, you can't change the freaking tone of the piano with how you tap the damn key!?!?! But she could. Afterwards I checked out the piano. It was in tune at least, but sounded like garbage when I played it. So yeah, I don't know, but people at that level can modify tone just by how they use their fingers.
There is no delay at all. It’s just insane

You can rant all you want and you can play as much extreme as you want 😀 so awesome to see the guys back!!!
It's a great time to be alive!

Methinks there's a harmonizer or octaver of some sort on his solo, that's what I'm hearing! Love that your playin a Nuno Washburn!
My first guitar. Needs some love actually. I played it to death in the 90s
It's a pettle box ( forgot the name). He keeps on top of his amp. It gives him his signature, punchy, sticato sound.❤

He really has a unique collection of tones.

I love these guys. Extremely formative for me in shaping my musical tastes.

Figueiredo, Kevin Figueiredo.
@@acdmonteiro I should have looked it up. LOL 😳
Wow, thanks! I really appreciate you watching!
Watch the video for Rebel...at the end of the solo Nuno points up to the sky...If thats not for Eddie I'd be surprised...

Great reaction video, nice to see from an old extreme fan too, your tone of your guitar was very pornografitti sounding.
That's very flattering but my paying was really rough and I'm fairly certain my guitar was out of tune! 😆 I appreciate you watching!
I'm pretty excited that these guys are still killing it! I need to check out the other two singles.
Sounds like you missed their 5th album Saudades De Rock from 2008. Highly recommended, if a bit different from their previous albums.
Was the song you were thinking of "He Man Woman hater"? the flight of the bumblebee intro?
He is using a Rat pedal to give the sound more attack. Explains it in his interview with Rick beato
Oh yeah! I saw him talking about having to find back ups just in case.
I give my shot: Delay and a flanger with ring mod.
little jack Horney,is that the song u were thinking
I've always liked Nuno over Eddie personally. Fully respect what Eddie did, but there's something about Nuno I always preferred.
He just has his own language rhythm-wise. Plus it's not just mindless speed, there is always really satisfying melody in there.

Please reacting to JISOO - FLOWER. She is a member of Blackpink.
He-Man Woman hater man! 😊
Bumble bee was my white whale as a young guitarist.
The only part i don't like is the chorus, far too poppie.
