Nuno just articulated the problems in our society better than anyone I have listened to to-date. Brilliant. Gone is the kind of debate where people truly listened and argued passionately but shook hands when it was over and walked away friends, perhaps closer than before they debated. Bravo Nuno for once again having the courage to speak your mind. I believe this is what makes his music so good and inspiring. Look beyond the talent: there is something deeper at play. 🤘🏼🎸
He so did didn't he!? Thats why i decided to leave it all in and just go with it as he is such is one bright guy!
@@KylieOlsson It was a brilliant interview. I was fortunate enough to meet Nuno once, on my birthday of all days. When it happened I didn’t know what to say, as he was such a massive influence on me like so many others, that I just thanked him and gave him a hug. He busted my balls, looked around and said “Can we get security over here? Security?” It was brilliant - and you made the right decision to leave it all in. Thank you for this interview. 😉🤘🏼🎸
Agree totally !
I would expect nothing less from a creator of Three Sides. You can't make music like that as a smooth brain. Awesome interview!
Thank you!!!
@@KylieOlsson Having real conversations with people... turns out... it works! Loving the channel.
Nuno is as brilliant a man as he is a guitarist. He's a hero in every way! What a guy!
Much respect for Nuno. The dude is cut in and well rounded.
I totally agree with you.. one of the most talented and nicest guys in music!
This is an awesome interview. He is so smart. He really remembers everything about his life and has amazing memories. I could listen for hours. Thank you for this interview. ❤
Nuno has always been and always will be my guitar hero. Loved what he had to say about learning drums before he played guitar. I started playing drums when I was 10, and discovered a love for guitar when I turned 15. To this day, my drumming experience is responsible for every and any iota of timing and attack I put into my guitar playing.
Such a class act Nuno is. Now Nuno...can you guys PLEASE push out the next Extreme record?!!
Thats fantastic to hear... and like Nuno said, all his heroes started on drums and I guess it makes sense as it gives you that internal timing.
Some of the greatest guitarists were drummers first. There is something otherworldly about being able to find a pocket rather than force the pocket to find you.
Hearing Nuno express some nuance during these times is really heartwarming.
The zombie apocalypse won't start until they drop "Mister" from Mister Potato Head.......OH DEAR LORD !!!
@@mars6433 my mind was blown that people are offended by mr and mrs potato head and they are pulling them
Nuno is awesome. I'm in my mid 50s, love Extreme, and really understand what he's saying. There used to be a time when people could talk to each other, debate, converse, and learn. That time feels like it's gone, but we need it to come back. We need to start listening to each other again and finding a way to take care of ourselves as people, take care of this planet we live on, and accept that we don't all see things the same way. It's not a bad thing...it's called diversity.
This guy is, I think, one of the most underrated but genius guitar players of all time. I’d include him in my top five anytime I’m asked
(For those that care: Slash, Dimebag, EVH, Nuno and Gary Moore)
"FOR THOSE WHO CARE"...Di Meola, Petrucci, Govan, Hackett, Bettencourt, Holdsworth [oh that's 6]
i'm totally with you on that!
Top 3 easy. And my personal number 1.
Underrated???? He's not
I'm sorry ThrushCZX....and that is your opinion....but I personally don't think Slash or Dime belong with EV...Nuno or Moore. I'd put in Steve Vai and John 5 before them two.
Of course that's just MHO as you have yours as well
I have so much respect for Nuno!
He speaks his mind, he wants to have civil conversations, he's overall a great human and awesome guitarist 🙏🏾🤘🏾
I totally agree with you... he was a real treat to chat to as it really was just a relaxed conversation...
One of my top guitar heroes ... i remember how inspired I was by his facebook post about the state of society. What a courageous and real person expressing a refreshing perspective vs the quick judgement and absolute labeling that is so prevalent in society right now. As Nuno says, its ok to have a blend of opinions vs being in this camp or that camp. Its ok to explore topics and you should be able to do so and talk about them without fear of being labeled without real basis. Painting with a broad brush is a key element in living a misguided life...
Superb player. One of the greats. He is so right on the lack of debate acceptance thats currently going on. One wrong word and you're finshed. I wish more people would speak up like this.
Agreed... nuno articulated the current societal issue. Thanks nuno for not being afraid to speak on this subject. Live the behind the scenes stories too
pleased you enjoyed!! Part 2 coming on Friday!
Being a Extreme fan since the early years and having seen Nuno play live I can only say I'm super happy to see he's still in great shape. My favorite guitar player next to Steve Lukather and John Petrucci. Cheers from Portugal!
Nuno really is a class act thanks for the interview 🙌
he sure is and pleased you enjoyed it!
It's very difficult to speak freely in these times, on socials or real life. I have long term friends (even my family or relatives) that attack me heavily when I try to make them notice the weird things happening about politics, economy, covid and other stuff. If you don't follow the mainstream you are crazy or dangerous, but for me it's just 2+2. Thanks Nuno and anyone else that try to speak their mind in a constructive way. Thanks Kylie for the interview to Nuno and the other guests. I'm really enjoying them
Thank you! Nuno is incredible
He really is!
I'm just happy to watch and listen to Nuno! Thank you so much!
I totally agree with you, he is an interesting guy to listen to. Thanks for watching
Nuno❤️ special and unique human being! In every sense, always having us, the fans, waiting for news from him. Best guitar player, fabulous voice, young forever 😆... Always caring about his family! He is admirable! The way he expresses himself is beautiful and the fact of loving mother nature ✨. I declare myself a big fan of NuNo... For many reasons... I would spend the entire day giving reasons why I love him. HE HAS ALWAYS GIVEN REASONS TO BE LOVED!! 💕
He is a wonderful human being!
Met Nuno acouple of times on the Gen- Axe tours. Really kool guy, very approachable, with a great attitude.
Thanks for saying that, Nuno
Loved this guy for as long as I can remember like 1986 and I have even more respect for him now more as a human than as a guitar god my man seems to be as real as they get
Nuno has always been one of my heroes. Such a machine. Timing is unreal. And yes musician first. Let the song lead. Re: politics. I tend to not say anything. Mostly bc I ask myself, “is what I’m about to say going to bring people together, or further divide us?” Then I say nothing. Which to his point is insane.
A brilliantly natural interview with a genuinely lovely guy and gifted musician.
Thank you! And I totally agree with you about Nuno... a very rare breed.
Wise and intelligent words from Nuno, great interview Kylie x
Very impressed by Nuno in this interview. Really good interview all round.
Kylie, many thanks for the interview with Nuno. Truly one the Greats! 🙏 Now please try to get John Sykes interviewed and I will forever be your biggest fan 😉♥️
Thank you Stanley and you are right, I should try and get him... I have his email somewhere so will dig it out and see if he is up for it... watch this space!!!!!!!
OK Kylie...I see what you're doing there with the low-cut top and the leaning over! 😄
I love Nuno, great human being.
That was amazing to watch from the first, to the last second! There where just More Than Words...😜
Thank you!🤟
hahaha. brilliant! Part 2 is coming on Friday at 5pm. Thanks for watching
@@KylieOlsson Awesome, thank you for the info! Big Nuno and Extreme fan here🤘😎🤘
What a smart an intelligent interviewer,...Kylie your ability to set up a question is supremely matched by your ability to listen to the answer! Also,... you have the gift of being involved, vested in your subject matter... I made a comment after I watched your Joe Bonamasa video about a guitar pick tray I had given to him and god bless you,... you made (me) an old guy happy by actually addressing that.... I hope we get to hear more from you. Nuno and Joe are 2 of my heros,... now you are too!
Thank you so much for your lovely compliment! It gives me so much joy to know that people are enjoying these interviews because lets face it, we could all do with a bit of cheering up right now. Take care of yourself and hopefully you'll enjoy my other guests I have coming up.
Nuno is an absolute treasure. 🔥💖👑
Great interview. Nuno is a legend for me and hearing him articulate some exact thoughts iv had is refreshing.
He blew my mind in this interview...
Love the Steven Tyler ‘PLAY THE FUCKING SONG’ story 😂🤘🏻👍🏻
I was his fan already. This interview made me see how great he really is. Big fan now.
I know, Its hard not to admire him even more!
@@KylieOlsson And I became your fan, too. Great interview.
Obrigado pela entrevista, caro Nuno! Thanks so much to Sr. Olsson!
Abraços da Terceira!
This was a fantastic interview, Nuno is my biggest influences and you can hear the love of music between the both of you which is great. Keep up the brilliant work 👍🤘
thank you craig and i'm so pleased that this came across in the interview.
Great interview. Super interesting to listen about Extreme’s mood in the “Waiting” tour and More than Words story! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I know, I could listen to his stories all day long!
Wow! Amazing interview and I respect and appreciate his words and his stance so much! Especially from about 4:45-10:25. I agree with him so much on these topics! He nailed it! Kudos to Nuno for his honesty and feelings on these topics. Nailed it! Another great interview, Kylie!
I know, he is the man! And thank you! Part 2 is brilliant so watch out for it.. will be up on friday at 5
I cried when he said this. Someone needed to say it, and I'm so glad it's Nuno. He was pretty opinionated about Bush 43 in a video of an appearance...BUT he offered an opportunity for the person to give their opinion too. He even offered the guy the microphone. Not sure how the topic came up....anyway....
My brother was a strong Conservative Republican. We were raised that way. But we never imposed our views on anyone. My brother used to joke about Nuno and his long hair, etc. Then I'd counter with, "But Mick and Keith, really?" But as time went on, my brother like my shares of Nuno's posts on social media. He was excited when I was planning my trip to see Extreme and meet them. And when I got back from the trip, he loved the fact that Nuno signed the picture of Nuno and Malala that I printed from that very Nobel Prize Ceremony. Nuno had the picture taken and he posted it. He stopped and seemed taken aback when I asked him to sign it. "Wow. Malala", he said. And I also asked if he would sign the picture of him with Desmond Tutu. Two Nobel Prize recipients for Peace.
Yes I cried during this. Nuno gets it. During these times when we feel that we have to watch what we say, he is brave enough to say what he feels and believes. And now that I no longer have my brother to talk with about how we can be "cancelled", silenced....dismissed for having a Dad who is a retired police officer and we just want to be proud of our law enforcement.... I feel lost. My brother was my best friend. His wit and sarcasm were welcomed in a casual discussion about the news of the day. He instilled the value of listening to others and respecting their opinions with his daughters. That was until the day after he died. His older daughter changed her FB entirely to BLM and "radical" rhetoric. At 18, I was hoping it was grief and rebellion. But she is one of the many who take the 10% of what someone says and label you as 1000% of it.
Nuno is a great role model during these times and his children are fortunate.
"We need more feet to walk in one another's shoes"
Great interview, Nuno is a very intelligent guy, aside from being an unbelievable guitarist! Good sense of humor as well, that helps!
Great interview Kylie - you asked all the great questions!
Just Common sense, just a great person and an incredible musician. Just Nuno.
totally agree!!!
He is so right. And he shreds on guitar. I don't care if he is to the left of me, he's Nuno. Who cares? He shreds!
So really cool and very interesting!
From same state and briefly met him years back. He’s a genuine guy and very outspoken and I think he’s great. Tell it like it is. However, he’s totally right if you don’t agree with the masses you’re cancelled and shamed.....sad. We can all have opinions and still continue to move forward and love one another. It’s when you use a platform to destroy something simply because you disagree is when the line is now crossed.
You are so right 👍🏻
Like who? Who's been canceleld?
@@russellward4624 no disrespect here....but, do a search for cancel culture on social media platforms and you will see a whole bunch of things listed. Just the other day...Mumford & Sons guitarist. Goya brands, MyPillow, long list. Across all aspects....not just a 'who'. If you're not seeing this I am sure plenty of others will point you to further examples.
@@TheGuitarMan8670 lol how was my pillow cancelled? Can you no longer buy them? Can you not buy Goya? Its just snow flakes complaining about being criticized.
No one is really being cancelled, they just want you to believe you are being cancelled so you can feel agrived just like their poor poor billionare leader
Timing is everything... Everything else fallows... You rule Nuno .. and thanks for this
Nuno is the king of guitar!
Play THE FUCKING song 😂😂
I could listen to this man talk for days!
And thanks Kylie for those interesting questions.
Right? 😁 Thats why I had to do 2 parts as he is such an incredible talker.
@@KylieOlsson Yeah, I think he likes to talk 😄 But he's super interesting so that's very cool 👏
Can't wait part 2 😉 And thank you again Kylie!
Thank you nuno always been a fan of your playing interview was awesome and I'm even more impressed by you man
he is the best!!
@@KylieOlsson good work on your part toooo! im sorry to have left you out great work keep it up
Wow, that was completely unexpected. I came here because I'm a long term Nuno fan, we listened to Extreme in High School. Besides still playing the guitar, I have kids now and whatnot and worry about their future sometimes in terms of the environment etc. And seeing particularly the U.S. become so extremely polarized and ending up with a president like Trump who has made 'you're either with us or against us' his trademark and who is sanctified partly for being rich is just downright scary and brought america to the brink. So, while 'Money, my personal saviour, in god we trust' still resounds, Nuno's current musings even without a guitar and recording studio seem just as relevant. Thank you both for this.
He is fantastic isn't he... so pleased you enjoyed it!
@@KylieOlsson For me he was second only to EVH, but more of a direct influence, particularly because of his rhythmic playing. But a cultural influence too. As a kid you sing along with each song hundreds of times so all the memes are deeply engrained in your system. And when you're older you listen again and notice yourself humiming 'don't forget to put your tooth under the pillow'... 'Money, my personal saviour, in God we trust.., trying so hard to keep up with the joneses' etc. And you realize, worrying about your mortgage, friends driving ever bigger cars, etc... wow that's quite profound and truthful for a bunch of 24 year olds saying it without compromise.
Brilliant interview
🤘🤘
Good interview.❤
Great episode 1 with Gorgeous Kylie Olsson and great Nuno Bettencourt!! Nuno has so interesting stories and opinions!! Can't wait part 2 on Friday...Thank You Kylie and Nuno!!! LISS is the Best!!
Thank you Markku... Nuno has been one of my favourite guests so pleased you enjoyed!
@@KylieOlsson Absolutely in top 5 of my LISS favourites..
Nuno is Awesome. Great job K.O.!
Nuno speaks with the equal gravitas he plays his guitar...clear precise and to the point. Someone nominate this bad ass rock n roll funk guitar artist (ahem! Musician) for a Nobel Peace! SERIOUSLY! Much respect to this man! ✌😎✌
I couldn't agree more!
Nuno é brilhante!🤘
@kylieolsson it is such a joy to have someone like you doing this kind of interviews....you are so professional!!! You have a new subscriber
Ah thank you Eric... Its so lovely of you to say so and thank you for subscribing!
It's about your heroes. I only own one Extreme album, I have had it for years, I still listen and enjoy it. Normally when you listen to your heroes you wish you haven't. Nuno seems pretty in your face and that amuses me but he has good standards and I admire that. Sometimes you listen to a hero and wish that he or she would just shut up but Nuno seems like a nice person.
NUNO, you are the best, i love you. From Colombia
I enjoyed every second... Thank you ❤️❤️❤️❤️
so pleased... thanks for watching and part 2 coming on Friday!
I love everything that Nuno does.. I live in Serbia.. Europa... I can't wait💕💕💕
I can listen to every interview this guy does....great guy - very intelligent and charismatic.
Great interview. Kylie you are gorgeous too 😍
Nuno has to repeat himself in many interviews as they ask the same generic questions, This interview aswell as Kylie's podcast a few years ago it's not so much what the questions are it's how they are asked. We get to hear Nuno respond differently and another side of him. Thank you, great interview.
Thank you so much JP... It means the world to me to hear your lovely compliments!
Great interview Kylie! Love Nuno... Portuguese blood!
Thank you for watching!!
I can't believe it took this long to get this channel recommended in my feed!!
Nuno talks a lot of sense, I used to be Socialist years ago and gradually became Conservative. Now I've found my true self somewhere close to the middle but a tad right lol I'm more a human than political .Great interview Kylie. Nuno is a very interesting guy!
Nuno, kudos to you!
💯
Great Interview from a great guitarist In Nuno!
He sure is one of the best. Thanks for watching Adam!
does anyone agree that Nuno is never getting old?
Big Nuno fan here, but am I now a Kylie Olson fan too? Why yes. Yes, I believe I am. Loved the interview thanks!
Amazing... thank you!!!!
Nuno, eu te amo !!!
I'm remembering old interviews as I watch this and the other videos, talking of 'Smith not letting Extreme open up for them reminded me of an old Kerrang story in the 90's when they were offered a support slot for the Jimmy Page David Coverdale band called um, Coverdale/Page. Page saw a video of him playing and changed his mind as he didnt want to be upstaged by him, something like that
oh my god thats brilliant!!!! 🤣
Lol Jimmy made the right decision. Nuno is untouchable to this day!
Nuno you did awesome 👏 thank you
Thank you!
Word!
Thanks Nuno, many feel like you about USA right now.
And you’re still super hot (sorry, had to be said).
Great interview...so refreshing to see a public figure speak the truth about the intolerance of cancel culture (especially one of my guitar heroes!)...only authoritarians silence (or punish) free speech and opposing viewpoints
OMG, Nuno. Drums. Me too!! My songwriting always starts with a drumbeat!! Space. Emotion. Hell yeah!! BTW, I'm 62 years old.
Nuno 's smile is still fascinating and makes my heart beat faster 💕
i know! haha
Gracias por la traducción, muy útil para quien no sabe Inglés
Great interview
Thank you Trevor!
Nuno is the type of guy you want to sit next to on a plane & just chat as the time flies....
that is exactly what he is like...
Nuno, teach us how to play songs and how to not age.
Hey Kylie been a long time! Great interview. I hope you’re well :)
Hey Reegan... Im good thank you... hope you are!
I always thought Extreme only played slow songs until today. The only time I saw them on MTV was the More than Words video. I’m going to listen to some of their stuff now.
Lindo da minha vida te amo Nuno
Man I would love to sit down with Nino and just go through instruments with him
Nuno?
Grrrrreat interview
Pleased you enjoyed it. Part 2 coming on Friday!!!
I love Joe Perry and Nuno is right up there too!! ❤️❤️
Cool guy ☀️
Your awesome Kylie!! Nuno is my guy. Saw extreme valentine's day in Denver Colorado and blew my mind. I'm in a pretty successful cover band maybe you could interview interview me? Always enjoy your videos. Take care.
Lindo 😻
Weird. While listening to this interview, Cupid's Dead is playing in my head. 🤘
This show is great. Anyone know if it's available as a podcast, couldn't see it on my podcast app. Would be perfect for listening to at work going crazy mowing never ending lawns! Thanks :)
There's no better exponent of the triplet-flick in the world of rock riffs!!
❤❤❤
Hey Kylie, love your show!
Question... 'Life in 6 Strings' what font is that you've used?
You’re right. So you are delicious 😮and talented and smart and that’s all I care about. Rock on❤mad love
27:32 you better come back to Prague one day guys :D :D
so true
Nuno plalk's how he plalk's!...
I remember listening to the Extreme Pornographitti album fro front to back and dissecting it just like he described he did with Queen and Zeppelin albums.
23:17 The way he said that 🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣
Wondering Nuno's thoughts on "Color Me Blind" today. How does he think it would be viewed? The song has a positive and inclusive message. Would it be misconstrued as "All Lives Matter" (in a derogatory manner)? That would be so shortsighted and dismissive.
I'm really sad to think what "Cancel Culture" try to say about this....
"Picture the world, without any color
You couldn't tell one face from the other
I don't understand, why we fight with our brother?
Color me blind just to love one another"
This is soooo needed right now!
I really wish Nuno was asked about this...and if so he would feel he could answer. Telling by this interview, he probably would offer his thoughts.
(A lot of people who are not familiar with Nuno's work Mourning Widows) criticize my username... The first time I heard the lyric with a friend, he said "Oh are you an AK 47 mouth!!" Too many people just see it for a gun name. Smdh)
@@tonymartinez8206 I would just hope that the lyrics would be embraced as unifying, as intended. Not painted in a derogatory manner in today's climate. I don't think there is much room for interpretation here.
I love how 'real' Nuno seems to be. He's just like you and me......except insanely talented....but real!
He totally is... I have no idea how after all his success and talent he has kept his feet firmly on the ground!
