I've had mine for a few years and it still looks and works like a champ. My soon to be wife and I went to a bed and breakfast and we had a sauna in our room. So Jill and I went in and my Seiko did too and man this time piece is still going perfectly and now I can say this is a real dive piece. I'm getting the black version in my collection. Great video Bro.
The bezel action on my 3+ yr old Pepsi version is still as tight as it was the day I bought it. A loose bezel action on a watch is a HUGE pet peeve of mine. These solar chrono's are great watches !!
i just got the pepsi bezeled version of this watch and absolutely love it. the jewlry store was asking 850 cad plus tax... ended up paying 750cad flat and id say its a pretty good price for the watch u get
I really like mine a lot, but its not the Seiko Prospex, but I like mine so much I will be getting this one as well. My Seiko glows pretty much all night then some. I like blue accents so I can't wait to get this one in my collection.
I am attracted to this watch. I always wanted a chronograph divers watch. If I had one, I would use it for timing lessons, cooking, traffic light intervals, the lengths of pieces of music, etc. the uses are endless. Yes it looks cool! I also like to make note of what time I wake up in the early morning, so if I could actually read the time when it is dark, that would be a big plus. Can you read the time 5-8 hours after lights out?
I own one of these as my work watch excellent piece of kit, Seiko's are tough workhorses.......I must be one of the few people that actually use a Chrono function at work looking at the below comments! (Capt on Construction Dive Vessel's). I got it cheap on a KLM flight as duty free. I would recommend to anyone who wants a reasonably priced watch that simply does what its meant to do!
Just got my 021 (all black - yellow trim) 2 days ago. Fit and finish are typical Seiko high quality. Measured bezel to bezel, it's slightly larger than my Sumo. Slightly smaller than my 637 baby Tuna. Not quite as heavy as either of them. Took off the Z20 rubber strap, and put on a NATO. The date window is hard to see; they should leave it off. Biggest drawback, the 24-hour subdial is synced to the main hands of the watch; that is, it will read 10(00) for 10AM and 22(00) for 10PM. You cannot set it up for a separate time zone - say UTC. Overall, I like this watch at lot. It's a different look for a Seiko diver. That blue/green watch you were talking about is the SSC239. Same watch, pretty bezel. Limited edition (possibly available in England and Singapore only). **UPDATE** It's available now.
I'm looking at my Seiko SSC017P2 diver and the blue bezel is just like the new one. It looks a little darker then the old one. This is weird, but I want to get this one also in my collection. I really like these Seiko time piece's. This is my go to time piece.
I just got this exact same watch and I'm super happy with it so far. The bezel on mine doesn't turn nearly as easily (can't turn it with just my thumb). The V175 movement is very accurate so far :) Keep up the great work!
I have the non prospex this watch, personally I think it's great for the price. My only issue is hollow end links. It now lives on a nato strap because of the end link getting bent.
Great review! I have the older version of this watch. I now wish I would have gone for one of the other color combinations, the minute totalizer is nearly impossible to see, given the dark blue color. The watch is deadly accurate and it would be perfect if the chrono minute dial was legible.
Great Video as usual Sir. I love those watches. I own tow of them the black version and the Pepsi edition. Great looking watches. 👍 Thank you for the great review.
I have the yellow accented SSC021 and its been a great watch. I put a PVC watchband on mine with yellow stitching and it looks much better than original rubber strap. When you reviewed the SSC015 you said the bezel had good clicking action and wondered why mine didn't. Mine is also the Prospex version and all of them must be like that. Thanks for the great review.
Always liked this particular model....a lot of Seiko's Solar line doesn't appeal to me, but this one does. One negative you didn't mention is the hollow end links on the bracelet. Not a deal breaker for most, but Seiko definitely cut corners there. For future reviews of watches with bracelets you might want to mention whether they have folded vs. solid links, as well as the type of end links. Folded links are a definite deal breaker for me personally. Also, the type of pins (friction, pin & collar, screw, etc) used is helpful too, but I understand you review prior to sizing in the event you return the watch. Anyway, just some suggestions. Keep up the good work.
You should review another 50mm+ wrist clock soon...not only as a 'warning' to unsuspecting buyers, but also for audience laughs. I like most of the stuff you review, but those always crack me up (52mm case weighing a lb. with a 2mm date window!) LOL
Hi Mave! Not sure if you remember but is the lume on this watch blue or green? The video certainly looks like its blue, but I keep seeing reviews online having green. O_O Could there be 2 variations?
Did the other models also have too smooth of a bezel? What about play and it centering at 12 o' clock? I am thinking on getting one of these (yewllow with rubber) as a to go beater which will always be on time while not needing battery replacement, and also to set my automatics. BTW, do you know how long the Solar cell/battery lasts? I know it depends on how many charges but still not sure. Thanks and nice reviews, enjoyed the Padi one.
I just noticed that my bezel turns tight with my thumb. Maybe it depends on where you get it from has something to do with the bezel turning or not turning rough or easy. ? Please get back to me when you receive this comment. Great job on this video. Keep them coming. Thank You.
I have to ask, if price were not a consideration and you were looking for a legitimate tough watch that you dont want to worry about, would you pick this SSC017 or its other color variants or the Victorinox INOX Diver. I'm debating between the two for a tough catch-all watch with no worries and little maintenance. Thoughts?
Hmmm....good question. If price were not an object I wouldn't pic either of these. If you are truly looking for a tough watch i would look at the numerous offerings from the Casio G-Shock line. Here's what I would get: ruclips.net/video/gDZHXN5oYpc/видео.html You simply can't beat a G-Shock in the tough department.
I had a feeling you wanted something metal and analog. Hmmm....check out the Maverick automatic from Victorinox. I love mine and well maybe not as tough as the INOX it's still a great entry level Swiss watch: ruclips.net/video/NBAM7lrq4uQ/видео.html
MAVERICK WATCH REVIEWS alright, let's tighten the scope, ssc017, inox diver, or the promaster diver you love. I have 7.5 inch wrists. it's all on your shoulders...
I bought one in the UK in 2016 when it came out..it cost me £279 ($354.00) at todays exchange. Why is it souch more expensive in the UK??? Rip off Britain i guess.
Supphachai Phuttharak I'm buying the ssc017... I've looked at several different styles, and this is the one I've settled on. Handsome watch, has all the bells and whistles, is sharp without being gaudy or "ghettoed out." Plus at a $225 price point, it compares with watches that are far more expensive. In addition, Seiko has been around for decades. Battle tested and still a top contender today. I'm sold.
+MAVS DAD WATCH REVIEWS oh, haha my bad. Definitely pro Trump. How about you? Btw great reviews I've been watching your reviews a long time, they've been really helpful. Also please tel me hollow or solid? Hahaha I know the old model they are hollow, I wasn't sure if they changed it with the rebranding
Yes I've used both. Dexclusive is some sort of Amazon owned wearhouse/company I think and Creation Watches is a great company but sometimes they say they'll have a watch in stock only to send you an e-mail right after you have paid for it saying that it isn't actually "in stock" and that you'll have to wait until they get it back in stock. I would go with Amazon/Dexclusive. Also make sure you check out Duty Free Island based in Hong Kong. I have literally have gotten 50 or so watches from them and have NEVER had a problem. They have GREAT prices but the shipping is a tad longer at about a week but that's still great coming from Hong Kong. And eBay has a couple of great sellers as well. Tell me who you want to buy it from BEFORE you do(if you find a better price than Dexclusive or Creation) and I can let you know who's legit and who isn't.
BRILLIANT Im purchasing the watch on sunday I think I will be using dexclusive unless duty free island entices me. Thank you for the informative and detailed reply, ill let you know who i buy it from before I do. kind regards Hendoman (louis) lol
I would never buy this watch. The minute timer 0-60 has markings are too close together. It should be 0-30. Like for instance on all 1963 Seagull pilot hand wind chronos (about $180). The 1963 watch has a smaller main dial, but with0-30 it is dirt simple easy to read the exact minutes.
I've had mine for a few years and it still looks and works like a champ. My soon to be wife and I went to a bed and breakfast and we had a sauna in our room. I just bought one for $300 Aussie.Last week I bought a Rolex two tone Bluesy.Swiss and Japanese are equally great watches.
Thats £165..thats cheap..new mine was £279 in the UK

Great Video as usual Sir. I love those watches. I own tow of them the black version and the Pepsi edition. Great looking watches. 👍 Thank you for the great review.
Great vid, don't know why this isn't one of the first videos that show up when you search "seiko ssc017". Thanks for the info!
Thank you sir!

You are very welcome!
Wow, nice they did a chronograph version of the "starfish" solar diver!

i just bought one at costco $ 199.99 U.S Dollas, nice looking watch
Which Costco? I'm looking for this watch and can't find it anywhere
Mine was bought in the UK in 2016 it cost £279... you got it cheap.
I have the pilot watch and that date is really difficult to see almost useless.
You missed the movement, v157 I think. Mine is a v192 and also solar

good looking watch definitely worth d price...
The applied markers around the face are slightly raised where the dial on the older model appears to be flat all the way across.
Thanks!

I have the yellow this watch is great
Never heard of Endless Gadget. Where are they from? They're website has no company info.

Yes, all the others are just as well built.
besel is really easy to turn, during day it's not on 12 oclock. may be to tighten the spring somehow?
I just noticed that my bezel turns tight with my thumb. Maybe it depends on where you get it from has something to do with the bezel turning or not turning rough or easy. ? Please get back to me when you receive this comment. Great job on this video. Keep them coming. Thank You.

But why blue hand ?White or red is better to see the chronograph even yellow i bought one with blue and i said OMG
60 or 120 click bezel?
I think the dot on the opposite end of small second hand that glows is rather useless for me,

MAVERICK WATCH REVIEWS yeah, already own the gw6900, I'm looking for an official stainless steel diver...wish I could explain my reasoning...

The pressure!!! Oh the Promaster diver ALL DAY LONG :)
after almost 4 years, how's the watch holding up?
mine is holding up extrememly. i got it in 2017
My favorite watch , you can do anything and not worry about it . Since is quartz should be thinner, other than that is close to perfect.
@@LaberintoAzul It's that thick because it's 200M water resistant.
how to make the second hand workMain
It doesn't, only for chronograph. Main seconds is top left subdial.
Cool watch.
Nice review. Can you use the chronograph while swimming? i.e. doing lap
times or is that not possible with the screw down crowns?
I wouldn't recommend it.
I bought the older watch used without a manual. Does Solar mean the sun will charge it?
Yes :)
which site to buy from that delivers internationaly?
Duty Free Island
I have a Seiko SEIKO V175 0AD0 solar chrono diver. Can someone tell me the best replacement oyster bracelet for it without spending $ 100.00 +?
Check out StrapCode
Is this ISO certified?
It is. It has the Divers 200m on the dial
I bought one in the UK in 2016 when it came out..it cost me £279 ($354.00) at todays exchange. Why is it souch more expensive in the UK??? Rip off Britain i guess.
i am either going to buy this watch or the skx007--which one would you buy, or recomend?
Depends on what's more important to you in a watch :)
I want to know that you bought this one (SSC017) or SKX007 because I am still considering it too.

44 mm
Hollow or solid end links?
Trump or Hillary?

359? It says 430 in 2021.
400 EUR in my country :-(

I like Seiko but the Citizen BY0100-51H makes this thing look cheap
You're high...lol. The Seiko is WAY better looking but we'll agree to disagree :)
Cronograph is somehow useless like he said.

invicta knock off! shame on Seiko
Jad Kay shut the fuck up
Invicta is the knockoff
Dude, Invicta copied every thing man!! :P .. seems like you dont know the horology of watches :D
