I remember your original video but there was a lot more information here - I still learned something new….so interesting, Karen. I also love herbal remedies and find medicine fascinating.

Hi Karen a diverse career indeed. I was a Staff Nurse for many years until I too had to stop due to disability. I have spoken to previous colleagues over the years since and so many things have changed in the intervening time - I probably wouldn't hardly recognise the job I had. Even before I stopped nurses were extremely overworked and that seems to have become even worse. I don't think I could go back (even with a new body lol), but there were parts of it I did miss. I liked most of the patients and staff - not all obviously and many tales to tell of horrible people over the years, but most people are fine or even really amazing at times. I miss the people, but not the constant pressure and feeling like I needed to duplicate myself to get done what was needed in a shift. I also miss a lot of the continued learning/improving my skills around certain tasks/procedures. I did also enjoy the more practical based teaching of junior nurses and students and passing on knowledge gained. In the latter stages (before stopping/leaving) I couldn't sleep as I was in so much pain and I was terrified I would make a mistake - I didn't thankfully. All in all by the time I did stop I was never going to be able to go back and I made peace with it. I do some Cancer charity work now on a part time basis and it's so much less pressure, yet still gives me some of the contact with people I missed from before. Something else always turns up and I'm happier now than I was in those latter years, despite more health issues having developed. I hope you too can find something else you're able to do and enjoy. Best wishes.

That's such a lovely story Lorraine and I found myself nodding away and agreeing with a lot you were saying. I do hope I can find something at some point to keep that continued learning and people contact. x

Off topic but recently you mentioned you drink diet coke. I get migraines if I have artificial sweetener especially aspartame. Have you looked at trying to go without them. Bear in mind though initially if you stop them you will get withdrawal headaches. Just a thought? Others say the same.

Thanks both! This is something I've tried twice i.e. stopping all sweeteners. Sadly nothing changed, and I really missed my Diet Coke. Honestly though they aren't a good thing to have I know this, but its what helps me not have actual sugar or high calorie things! x

Higher national certificate, then one above that (the one I have) is Higher national Diploma, then it goes to degree level if you continue studying. x
