Setting up a film studio I have upgraded from two GH6s for A and B cam to two GH7s.... loving the new auto focus... less stress is always worth the money.
Proud owner of a g9ii and it does everything I'd want the GH7 to do in a smaller body with better stab, dedicated S&Q and a much better strap mount. Both amazing cameras.
My biggest complaint with the g9ii is overheating. But just sticking a small cloth ontop of it, has helped stop it from overheating. I've also tried the fan and opening the battery door which helps, but honestly a small bandana over it helps the most
Love the flip up screen on the gh7 for photo purposes tho(from a sony a6400 user POV mainly for stills) but the weight extra pro video feature that I might not need just let me going back to g9ii lol
@@FourKnown G9ii has very similar noise. Panasonic has said the G9ii sensor is very similar to GH7 but I think they technically can't say it's BSI. It's one of those hush hush things where Panny doesn't want to explain the technical differences.
Honestly the gh7 has a lot of features I would likely not use. Kind of wish they would come out with something cheaper with like Gh5 specs just with the dpaf
Oct 2024 G9ii with trade in and Payboo card cost me 1k. Gh7 is $1978. Im saving about 1k. I also had the OG G9 that was my favorite camera ever. I'm happy with my G9ii.
I sold gh6 to get g9ii, g9ii overheats when i push it a bit in long shoot under direct sunlight, maybe i can buy back gh6, the 2nd hand narket price is almost as low as what i sold it for in the first place now.
Good comparison but I choose “C” the GH6 for only 1,300 “like new” with same body and some have noted better quality body than the GH7. Only main missing features are 32Bit float and auto focus. I shoot manual and have Rode Wireless Pro for 32Bit audio. So I would rather get 2 GH6 bodies for close to the price of one GH7 if I used them for business.
Honestly if you are okay pulling focus great camera, better image quality! The only thing (and I’m making a vs video soon with the GH7) is streaking for me. It legit happened to me on a client project with the camera and it was BAD
@@MatthewDangyou the streaking is pretty much what made me move to the GH7 although I’m keeping my GH6 as a c cam and with GH7 being my A cam and S5iix being my b cam.
I think that will be my choice too. Found in excellent condition with a 2 year warranty for €1200. What I save I invest in the Arri-log profile (also available for GH6)
With many people selling their GH6 cams, I snatched up a second one for $900 like new. It's an amazing camera. And the AF works just fine unless you're doing unrealistic super fast movements to stress test it.
@@MatthewDangyouI’m sorry to hear that. For some reason I have never noticed the streaking while recording but I can see it before pressing record button. I also only use in Dynamic Range Boost mode. I wonder if that has anything to do with it. I have certainly been in situations where I should see it (high contrast low light with a bright area of the scene) but never while recording. Weird.
Great comparison. I do have a question that I cannot find an answer to. I see the GH7 has a crop zoom feature. Does it work in 4k and pixel to pixel mode simultaneously?
record to SSD is the best thing since sliced bread - I love the GH7 ... looking for a B camera and I am tossing between another GH7 or a G9II :) One thing thats often overlooked is the price of M43 lenses vs FF .... loving the 4/3 world :) I bought a Lumix 12-35 Leica to match the GH7 and its amazing ... Colour grading and adjustment on the GH7 vs my Sony A7III is in a different league - plus real time LUTs and VLOG and 4K 10 bit recording - I am very impressed!.... Oh yes Flippy screen!!!!
I am thinking about these cameras. The lack of a CF Express slot, no shutter angle, no recording frame on the monitor all are drawbacks of the G9 II. Here in Canada the GH7 is not currently available. When it becomes available perhaps the price of the G9 II will drop even further.
The G9ii does have shutter angle and all the main video features. Currently you can’t see you display info on both screen and external monitor but your recording frame and all that you still can👍🏻
I bought a G9II and not thinking to replace it with the GH7. I like the body style better in the G9II... Flatter top design is nicer in G9II, the rear dial sticking out backwards in the GH7 which is awkward, the front dial design is much better in the G9 IMO, and better the position of the top record button in the G9II... what is better in the GH7 though: the locking capability of the mode dial, and the fans + the tilt screen... but hey, fan means more weight so I can live without it
@@MatthewDangyou indeed. the extras except the missing flip up screen and fan dont bother me. (I miss more the S9 crop zoom and hybrid zoom features more, because they can be used while the camera is recording. But hopefully those will come to G9M2 as well later) I have done a full day run&gun shoot without overheating although it was only around 30degrees Celsius not 35-40 and the camera didn't recorded continously... but I cannot imagine who and why wants to make hours of long takes in the sunshine...🤷♀ anyways, I try to eliminate the heat factor with using a dummy battery, recording to SSD, and using an external fan in the back IF I need to do that. Right now, I don't see overheating is a huge issue. It's definitely not on Sony level 😀 in return, one gets weather resistance, which can also be an important factor
I have gh6. Colour from sensor is glorious..skin tones spot on perfect delicious.. straight out of camera! Gh7 has G9II sensor ..more digital colour IQ. I prefer gh6 image over all other Lumix ...just more " organic". By the way when a good camera is discontinued .it's value goes up because year from now RARE. Fuji 100v good example. Gh6 is a keeper
@@MatthewDangyou Thanks for your response. I thought that the cooling vents in the GH7 make it vulnerable for dust and moisture to get in and these vents are sealed in G9 II which does not have a cooling fan and occasional overheating alone can be an issue if pushed hard.
Logically makes sense but lumix has a lot of pride on making most of their cameras dust, splash, rain, and snow proof. The yeah they put them through is pretty crazy. I mean I wouldn’t recommended it but I have seen people put the GH6 somewhat in water. But I have used a ton of these cameras in pretty wild conditions and not stressed at all!
The file sizes of ProRes raw makes it way too expensive for me to use it. If Panasonic had gone with Black Magic Raw I might have considered the GH7 but for me the G9 II with an external SSD disk makes more sense and offers much more bang for the buck.
Yeah would be cool to see some type of Pro Res Raw LT though Apple would have to develop and make it. But if you need a weather sealed camera for snow, rain or dust then you wouldn’t be able to use the SSD too🤔🤷🏼♂️
@WoobiTheCat oh 100% I mean if you like the advantages and would want both then for sure! I would say (if you could afford it) having the S5iiX and the GH7 would also be nice but requires different set of lenses
Tbh I’ve not watched the video yet (I will) but I just want to say early on…. The sole reason I will buy the GH7 is that it has a tilt screen. This is so much better for filming and photography, it’s quicker, less obtrusive and means I can look ahead straight over the lens axis. I am so happy Panasonic implemented this rear screen. Thank you for your review.
I have a G9 II. So if I decide to change it to a gh7 I shouldn't expect a different image quality? Obviously I'm talking about all the codecs that have the same, outside of prores
honestly setting up the cameras side by side with the exact same lens and same settings. I wouldn't notice much a difference. I literally copy and pasted the color grading effects on the clips.
I can live without the flip up screen and since I shoot mostly 4k 24p the G9II has about everything I need. I got the bonus $500 trade in when I got the G9II so it was a very good deal. If they have a sale or the bonus again I might think about the GH7. The G9II is a very good camera.
I kept my GH6 as I only have 1 AF lens and a dozen MF and the only real tuber gripe with the 6 was the AF which doesn’t effect me and 2+ years in I’m yet to see a streak 🤷♂️ 2:48
100% honest, I just leave my cameras on when I am shooting the entire time and just have the power save mode on to eliminate that problem. Plus I use VMOUNTs too
@@MatthewDangyou I do the same. I just get in the habbit when I'm thinking about shooting just touch the shutter button to wake the camera up, very rarely have I run into sleep/wake up problems.
