@@-Luka-Brazi Dame Vera Lynn enjoyed a near 6-decade career; named the "Forces' Sweetheart" during WWII; and through her music lifted the spirits of Brits and so many around the world thru the sheer power of that wonderful voice. Lived 'til 103; used her fame and wealth to strongly support children's charitable causes; and was one of the truly GREAT performers of the era of the 30's thru the 70's. A release of her greatest hits, released in the 90's, made number one on the easy listening charts in England. She was 92 or 93 years old at the time.
Delighted to offer a very brief glimpse into the career of this fantastic performer whose impact was far greater than just standing in front of a mic and singing.

@@KenDatMo - Thank you! This platform often presents people it thinks we already know. Sometimes I am pleasantly surprised, other times…not at all. I think nostalgia plays a big part in all this. My musical taste is eclectic…and strange. I don’t expect people to know my heroes. Still, I’m curious about other genres and eras. Thanks again for the intro!

@@-Luka-Brazi You are welcome. I wrote because it is silly to assume! Obviously, I am a huge fan of Dame Vera. Her family put her on stage from age 7. That glorious voice was completely and totally untrained. I don't have the link, but there is a RUclips video of a one-hour deep dive into her career and life hosted by Sir David Frost. Her song We'll Meet Again was an anthem for the Brits in WWII, and was her signature tune her entire life. Amazing woman. Take care, and all the best. Ken

@@KenDatMo- I’m an American living in Austria. I am surrounded by World War II history and some of it I found in my Austrian wife’s grandparent’s farm house attic. Hundreds of letters from Berlin to his sweetheart, many with Hitler stamps still attached. I think it’s fascinating to see the war through the eyes of the young people on the other side…the “enemy”. The most amazing letters, so articulate and eloquent…all of them by 20 or 21 year old kids…all in a cursive handwriting you would not believe. No errors, no cross outs.
I remember my California upbringing is astonishingly rich in food, celebrations and safety. I think many of us Americans cannot imagine the horrific stress of war. To fear for your kids, to experience starvation.
I will look into this woman…and the manner she comforted an entire nation. “The Forces Sweetheart”!
