Dame Vera Lynn At The BBC 2020
In 2020, we said a sad farewell to Dame Vera Lynn. In a special programme, the BBC celebrates the ‘Forces Sweetheart’ with a look back through the archives at some of her favourite performances and biggest hits.
As well as the many classic songs that helped unify the nation throughout World War II, this retrospective captures a side of Dame Vera that many have forgotten about, with upbeat song-and-dance performances from her 1970s series The Vera Lynn Show, which saw her covering many popular tunes of the 60s and 70s.
We see her joining forces with a selection of fellow stars like Harry Secombe and Des O’Connor, there’s a special duet with the legendary Bing Crosby, and an unforgettable gue...

VERA LYNN: SINGING TO THE WORLD FINAL SESSIONS, STILL TOP OF THE UK POPS FOR PYE Following her tenures at Decca and EMI Dame Vera in 1979 and 1981 made two final albums for Pye: THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC and SINGING TO THE WORLD. Her postwar producers consistently found nostalgic anthemic tunes to suit the erstwhile Blitz ballader, and even these more contemporary songs (regrettably, no Lennon-Mc...

Vera Lynn - For The Good Times (1977)
Vera could sing anything.
Okay - now THIS is how one defines camp!
Vera Lynn was one of the great singers that I remember . I'm 83 and still love music & dancing
Vera your amazing
Thank you for posting this song. I was a kid when I first heard this song on CBC radio when it was released. It's still one of my favourite songs. Great lyric: "and we may find, when we look behind, that tomorrow came just in time."
listen up all you youngsters, this is a lesson , a masterclass in how to put a song over, that unmistakable warble in dame vera's voice, nobody can ever match it or even come close, my parents loved her all through the war my dad was sweet on her, and I sang we'll meet again at his funeral, R.I.p Dame Vera forever in our hearts
Such a beautiful lady, inside and out, with a perfect singing voice.😊
👏👏👏👏
Vera's voice just got better and better.
Dame Vera was a beautiful lady.
Such a beautiful voice,, and the song has been a favorite from the first time I heard it. Dame Vera Lynn was a first class (Lady).❤❤
Amazing performance. And have to say that she looks like Gillian Anderson a lot. Initially I thought that it was Anderson starring in a biography about Vera.
Great idea! There should be a movie.
Vera has certainly got the world on a string
What a joy! Thanks DV! Magic.
Hi Daniel. Vera is so beautiful. I'm so glad that despite technology's dark side - that we're able to see such treasures. Thankyou!
Pure magic! Love it. Thank you for sharing
Never thought I’d see / hear a live version of this- you’re a genius! Thank you for finding all these rare gems.
A very bad arrangement of this beautiful song ! Compare this to the version with male chorus from the early fifties and you will hear why this one is bad.
Found a vinyl LP which belonged to Vera lynn
Staffords vinyl LP signed by j w baines 😍
It says to Vera best wishes Jim baines ❤

WHO?
@@ninobixio6156 - NEVER heard of her. Very true!
@@-Luka-Brazi Dame Vera Lynn enjoyed a near 6-decade career; named the "Forces' Sweetheart" during WWII; and through her music lifted the spirits of Brits and so many around the world thru the sheer power of that wonderful voice. Lived 'til 103; used her fame and wealth to strongly support children's charitable causes; and was one of the truly GREAT performers of the era of the 30's thru the 70's. A release of her greatest hits, released in the 90's, made number one on the easy listening charts in England. She was 92 or 93 years old at the time. Delighted to offer a very brief glimpse into the career of this fantastic performer whose impact was far greater than just standing in front of a mic and singing.
@@KenDatMo - Thank you! This platform often presents people it thinks we already know. Sometimes I am pleasantly surprised, other times…not at all. I think nostalgia plays a big part in all this. My musical taste is eclectic…and strange. I don’t expect people to know my heroes. Still, I’m curious about other genres and eras. Thanks again for the intro!
@@-Luka-Brazi You are welcome. I wrote because it is silly to assume! Obviously, I am a huge fan of Dame Vera. Her family put her on stage from age 7. That glorious voice was completely and totally untrained. I don't have the link, but there is a RUclips video of a one-hour deep dive into her career and life hosted by Sir David Frost. Her song We'll Meet Again was an anthem for the Brits in WWII, and was her signature tune her entire life. Amazing woman. Take care, and all the best. Ken
@@KenDatMo- I’m an American living in Austria. I am surrounded by World War II history and some of it I found in my Austrian wife’s grandparent’s farm house attic. Hundreds of letters from Berlin to his sweetheart, many with Hitler stamps still attached. I think it’s fascinating to see the war through the eyes of the young people on the other side…the “enemy”. The most amazing letters, so articulate and eloquent…all of them by 20 or 21 year old kids…all in a cursive handwriting you would not believe. No errors, no cross outs. I remember my California upbringing is astonishingly rich in food, celebrations and safety. I think many of us Americans cannot imagine the horrific stress of war. To fear for your kids, to experience starvation. I will look into this woman…and the manner she comforted an entire nation. “The Forces Sweetheart”!
For me Vera will always be the voice of hope that was needed during the war. We'll meet again always gives me goosebumps even though it was long before my time.
Dame Vera - absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing this rare gem ❤
Simply beautiful performance of this great song.
Fantastic gb n music mix 😀 with sig of decadent not Nietzsche
All great singers performers - but ther'll never be anyone as great as Vera.Thank you so much for these unforgettable memories.(89 year old NZ Citizen holidaying in Philippines) ❤ Vera RIP - You da best ever

For the good times , How beautiful . A really Fantastic Show from start to finish Thank You ❤
God given talent.

I love the updated orchestration.
Vera Lynn who served in the Entertainments National Service Association (ENSA) in World War II for the British troops sings soulfully beautiful If we only have love We can reach those in pain We can heal all our wounds love song!❤️🙏❤️🎤👩🏼🥰😇😊🫶❤️🤍💙🧡
What aaaaa Voice.O,I just love her and her singing.❤💯
Fabulous voice giving a superb performance of a magical song. Thanks
vera Lynn as always been my favorite singer I remember world war 2 in england went thru all of it brings back so many memories some good some bad
shes beautiful
Great singer. A legend. Died at a 103. Dame Vera had a nice long life
What does "Pickwick 1963" mean near the start - is that the show (and its date) the song comes from? (I take it "BBC One on New Year's Eve 1976" means BBC1 on 1976-12-31.)
If one didn't know and was just hearing not seeing, there's no way you'd realise she was 60 here! Good strong voice, no quavering! (And she looks very smart too.)
Vera was truly sent from heaven! What a Fabulous wonderful voice. Her songs Of compassion, Passion and love, Ring Through to our hearts and souls. My heart swells with ❤❤'❤
Shit!
Wow, so beautiful! ❤❤
It's interesting to compare her recording from 24 years earlier (1952-7): allowing for differences in accompaniment and recording technology. she almost the same! ruclips.net/video/DsFOQwjJNyQ/видео.html
I take it "New Year's Eve 1976" is 1976-12-31, not 1975-12-31. Vera obviously having fun!
