I'm still here listening to Paul and Jaqui 7 years after my previous comment. And I'm still in love with these two genuine artists. They don't have to collect "likes" in social media. They are here. For us. 😊😊😊
I've been deeply moved by Paul Heaton's singing and songwriting since The Housemartins. May he always remember to bring us the beauty and the pain, from the bottom of the dirty little glass.
It hurts me to my core when I see fantastic, talented singers and lyricists like Paul, Jacqui and the rest of the band struggle to get heard and played on the radio. I think Paul is the John Betjeman of this generation and I just can't believe how someone from the same kind of background as me can turn into such a complete genius. This is a fantastic version of a fantastic song and Jacqui just makes the song her own.
I to am stunned that these two hugely talented lyricists struggle to get heared. I asked Paul about it online, sort of, I asked him why: The Beautiful South hadn't 'made it in the US'? He answered and said they had. However, such a talent as that should have made a much bigger impact? Paul is the John Betjeman of this generation, or near as damn it. So why do they not get the recognition? I just don't get it.
There are so many fantastic musicians throughout the world that don't get media coverage. Here in little old Tasmania there is a great music culture but you don't get to hear any of them on even local radio
@@cubicinches18 It's such a shame isn't it, I know they can't play everything but they can broaden the music played so much more. Maybe they could play stuff based on how great the song is rather than how pretty the singer is.
Just came across these singles. This had me aim tears. Brought back memories of the brass I was brought up with. My dad, the Pennines all combined with two of my favourite voices. I just wish he’d been alive to hear it.
What a treasure you both are -- a finer duo is hard to find! I remember when I heard the Housemartins for the first time (in Iceland) -- I was 17 and had just walked into a 'disco' with two good friends and 'Me and the farmer' was blasting -- and my legs had to move. Then later with TBS, you followed me through love, breakups, cosy evening sofa-moments and whatnots of everything :) Now in my 52nd year and currently in my second week of a Paul Heaton RUclips/iTunes deep dive -- I'm amazed by the fact how many of the (older) songs/lyrics went way over my head ... but maybe that isn't so strange for someone who wasn't aware of the situation in England and maybe didn't pick up on the language and lingo ---- but, to listen now, with my more experienced ears; and with good 9 years under my belt from living in Middlesbrough, the gravity of your work and storytelling is hitting home like never before! Poems is currently my absolute favourite song, what a treat for these ears! :) Anyway - much love and thanks for it all and all that's still to come :D
My iPod is full of his music and theirs, they have a song for every mood and every moment in life. They deserve the accolades lesser artists get, they are long overdue for the recognition they deserve
Wow, what a beautiful song, and seeing Glossop like that is lovely. Also, the sounds of brass played so softly is a pleasure. Takes me back to my solo baritone days as a slightly rubbish youth band player.
Don’t be so hard on yourself. I have it from very good authority that you were a very rubbish youth band player. The worst that’s ever been, if some people are to be believed.
Never heard the original but this is just perfect: the voices, the melodies, the brass band, the images. You're so blessed to have artists of this calibre on the other side of the pond! Hats off!
I cry every time I hear this.. If only people could get together and realise what a beautiful world we have, life would be so much better. Thanks for posting..
I discovered Beautiful South, a well preserved secret at least for norwegians by chance.. I heard "Dont merry her, have me" on radio and was curious to know who the singer was. Jacqui Abbott. My God!! I have now been through most records from the group and from their reunion. Paul Heaton is right. He discovered a Rolls Royce which had been covered for 11 years in the garage. She (an he) is a great singer, one of the greatest! With a voice similar to Karen Carpenters and Mama Cass (Cassandra Elliot). Loving Arms is a great song with a very original arrangement. (Salvation Army sound). Fine she is back where she belongs. And what a lovely personality and beauty.
@@paulwild3676 And Your Point Is. I'm Fe Yorkshire, Paul Is Fe East Yorkshire And I Niver Said It Were Filmed In Yorkshire, I Said Yorkshire Brass. Kindly Keep Thi Kneb Out Mate 😎
So so happy to be able to listen to Jacqui and you making great music together after all these years! Now, if only you guys will do covers of Iris DeMent songs :) Jacqui doing Iris' 'You've Done Nothing Wrong' is still my favourite RUclips video.
Tom Jans would be so proud. Many folks have covered this tune but these two just absolutely nail it. I am always amazes at how few people know about the talent of this duo. Beautiful south was one of the most underrated bands to ever come dow the pike. Is it any wonder that they do this tune so well?
This is an amazing song. I had the honor of living 10feet from their recording studio in Hull. I was always hanging around in the garden listening to them practice
Just listened to the Tom Jans version, the Elvis version, the Kris Kristofferson version and this beats all of them by a million miles. Bravo Paul and Jacqui and thank you
Trisha, Grab the Millie Jackson version (she doesn't swear once, honest!).It is -the- very best produced version out there (makes Elvis sound like a rank amateur). This version (Jaqui and Paul's) gives me goosebumps and the Millie Jackson version does too, but you won't believe how different they are until you hear them. Another really good version is Mel and Piet Veerman's at ruclips.net/video/Pkyn9D8Iepg/видео.html (I can only find it on RUclips -- If anyone knows where we can buy it, please let me know).

Great annihilation Ken.
Has to be one of the greatest songwriters of all time ( simple lyrics, beautifully written)
Tom Jans wrote & sang the original.
This might be the best version of this song I have heard. This should have been a number one record.
Agree. Just listened to Kris Kristofferson and Rita Coolidge's version, this is much better

Jacqui abbot without question was the best female singer in the beautiful south out of the three female vocalists they had in the band time.
