Paul Heaton writes songs that are so observational and relatable to ordinary people. Considering he's been successful for over 30 years, he's never lost touch with real things that working people care about. I don't think he lives in a big mansion and owns a Ferrari. I just couldn't imagine it. People have accused him of being too political, but why shouldn't he have an opinion? I think he just cares about the UK and the shit government we have. And if you have a platform like him and Jaqui with their music, it makes people think.....hopefully. Because his lyrics are sometimes justifiably vitriolic, but he if you listen to If I May, he can be so sweet.
For me, he's the quintessential British Man and you're right, he has as much right to a point of view as the next man. If he were to drive a Ferrari, I'm sure it would be a three wheeler. Bollocks to it, his songs still ring true to me and 'Double Bollocks with Sugar on Top' to anyone who disagrees! We all have a right to a point of view.
Hi from Canada. I have been a big fan since the 1990 when I first heard " a little time" describing exactly what it felt like when my boyfriend of 6 years broke up with me "to think things over" and 6 months later wanted to come back and after much painful soul searching on my part I decided just like in your song to say no to him. All my family wanted me to take him back and this song really spoke to me and made me feel I'm not the only one who has had a similar painful breakup. I very much appreciate your unique ability to write thoughtful lyrics from both the male and female perspectives.
Been a fan all my life. Woken up on Saturday mornings listening to the record player with a new housemartins single or album/beautiful south that my brother had bought as I was only about 8yrs old at the time. Been to concerts and loved them. Now heading for 50 listening to old and new tonight, smile all over my face 👍 Brilliant writing and delivery as always. THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC 👏👏 Xxx
Absolutely love this! Living in Scarborough, good to see local faces involved! Love how this tune has elements of Northern Soul and Jacqui even sings a bit there where it sounds like a musical. Paul is an absolute genious..I hope he knows it.
Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott compliment each's vocal range! From the House Martins, Beatutiful South to a duo, cannot shy away from the sound as it picks up out of the darkness. Paul's songs may be cheesy and syrical, but, have meaning, Paul from the Wirral and Jacqui from St Helens, they get my thumbs up more times than, the singers of the day who only last 2 years, these 2 have been going for at least 3 decades
brilliant to see Jacqui and Paul back together they are quite simply amazing i have loved everything they have done since their careers began. simply outstanding feel good inspirational lyrics and music, booking tickets today in manchester.
Terrific song. The best songwriters in the UK in my opinion. So glad they are back together writing again. Still remember accidentally catching Paul Heaton playing a small pub in Ullapool on his bicycle marathon in 2012.
Saw these two brilliant singers in concert a week ago (first time) wow are they sooo good ,what performances Paul is the ultimate storyteller with a soulful voice and Jacqui has the best female voice ever the two compliment each other long my they perform 💕
Fantastic video and song , love Paul Heaton Jacqui and Beautiful South. Love the way that they remain so Northern , unpretentious and true to their roots. Paul cant half write a bloody brilliant tune
Paul Heaton unbelievable writer.. but Jacqui Abbott must be one of the best female vocalist in Decades... saw these guys in Stockport .WOW WOW WOW best live gig
Haven't heard much of the solo stuff outside of the Beautiful South but you can see the magic there!. Good track...these two are a ray of sunshine in an increasingly devoid world of talent and great tunes...
Another Fantastic track good old fashioned music no fancy cars or swearing down to earth tunes very uplifting you are both a massive credit to music and to Kingston upon Hull
Get the Beautiful South "Carry on up The Charts" album and you'll relate to every song on it. Paul Heaton is the best songwriter / singer in decades...
I love this song, it always takes me back to my young years when I used to be an absolute player with the ladies. Now I am just a one woman man, the perfect husband that a woman could ever wish for.
This song has been stuck in my head for several years now. I discovered The Beautiful South around 1990 at a Tower Records store in Los Angeles. The cover of the first two albums stood out to me so I bought them on sight. Loved it from the first piano notes on Song for Whoever and it just kept getting better. It wasn't until I heard his voice that I realized he was the singer from the Housemartins (who did get some play on college radio in the 80s, whereas the Beautiful South never was known here). Anyway, I think this song is as good as the best Beautiful South or Housemartins song. I love how I am aging along with them.
I went to Hull when I were about 18, my mate met a lovely girl called Lisa, stayed for the weekend after running out of petrol, her Father had a recording studio which is where the housemartins first recorded, I was told, happy days!
in the movie The Banshees of Inisherin one of the themes is whether it is better to leave a legacy of art or leave the world a nicer place. This simply shows you can do both
I missed Amos by a week in Chicago for my birthday weekend getaway.(I wont mention which birthday)....still chasing both of them. Ugh. First world problems haha...
Probably one of the best british song writers in the last 30 years !!!!mr paul heaton isnt as grumpy as he makes out ....i met him in his pub in salford and yes he may of fucked my offer of a big fat rock star line in the bog but i had it instead and chatted pure north welsh "im not scouse"im from north wales R kid . I fuckin love Manchester i moved here 4 years ago and it took me as i took it to its heart ..we are one xc
What a lovely catchy pop tune, Excellent indeed. The video features a NSM Prestige ES160 Jukebox I know this because i have one and i was VERY excited to see it!
I was first introduced to The Beautiful South while in college- Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott produce the most beautiful music!
The most underrated singer/songwriter of his generation...
Carl Bovis I really don't see him as underrated
underrated my ass... don't know one song from another - they're all the same...
in years to come he will be recognised. Pure talent shines through.
If they were any justice in this world Paul Heaton would be just as iconic like Morrissey.
@@KodyKimani not like the crap today proper music housemartins beautiful south can't beat em don't know what shit you listen to
When these two come together it is magic. The lyrics, the tunes, their complementary voices, the orchestration are all brilliant.
It's fucking horrendous
Paul knows Jacqui is the best female singer around today.
I said "singer" as todays garb call themselves "Artists" lolol Yeah P-Artists.
Paul Heaton has never had a song that hasn't been brilliant

Heaton's a lyrical genius; Abbott's a stunning warbler.... Wonderfully dark and haunting lyric; heartbreakingly beautiful arrangement....
