If you found your city on a spot where a little water connects two amounts of a LOT of water You can basically start counting your money ahead of time.
In addition to its strategic location, Istanbul's geography also provided natural defenses that made it difficult to conquer. The city is situated on a hilly peninsula, making it easy to defend against invading armies. The Sea of Marmara and the Golden Horn, which are both natural harbors, also provided protection from naval attacks.
I visited Istanbul last year and there is so much culture to explore. That trip also made me fit since you get to walk a lot, which is the etymology behind the city's name

Istanbul Geography is the reason it was made the capital of the Ottomans Through conquest, the Ottomans gained control of many ports and had sole access to the Black Sea, from which even Russian vessels were excluded, and trade among the provinces increased greatly. As the largest city in western Asia or Europe, Istanbul was the natural center of this commerce.
look its good, but still not the reason it was made the capital. the reason is because the ottomans claimed to be the succesor to rome and constantinople/istanbul was its capital. also it was a massive city for the time
Moreso made the capital to allow the Ottomans to claim themselves as the successor to the Roman Empire, the capital beforehand of Edirne being there to allow to Ottomans to be better positioned to take Constantinople(the cities name at the time)-geography just being a massive plus.
Not quite. It was made the capital because Mehmet II had ambitions to conquer and reform the Roman empire but his successors ended up instead forming a pseudo-caliphate instead.

It used to be a great geography for Constantinople as it was the hub of the ancient world, but years later weren't too kind to the city as it became Instabul and trade routes changed and the environment worsened in Anatolia.
I'm currently playing as the Byzantine Empire (Basil II) in Civ VI. I ALWAYS found Constantinople on this peninsula. I turn the Black Sea into a lake. I surround it with my cities; expand to the mountains near where India is, expand up into SW Russia, across to Germany, and usually take over what is Egypt and Sudan. I go for domination, religion, culture, more domination and religious spread, and then the game usually ends with me getting a religious or cultural victory. It's an OP civ. Even a nerfed Basil II is great. You can go for domination and religious victories very easily.

That’s actually bs, I’d be tight if I was Turkey. Why can’t they tax people to go through the Bosphorus? If you’re in a country’s water border could they tax you?
International law guarantees free access to the ocean, so Turkiye can’t charge for the Bosporus, as that would be barring countries from ocean access. Also, the Bosporus is a natural waterway. The Panama Canal and the Suez Canal are shortcuts (big shortcuts, but shortcuts nonetheless) that were human-made and ships have other ways to access the ocean besides them, so they can charge. Hence why Turkiye is building a canal so it can charge for passage while leaving the Bosporus free of charge.
