    This is done so well. I second the other comment about making a metro tunnel video with the 1970s voice over. In fact anything in the old 1970s style but about modern stuff would be cool. I really do like they way they presented information back then.

    I remember watching the first video!
    This was wonderful to watch, please make a Metro Tunnel ad with the 1970’s voice over, it would be hilarious!

    That was a great parallel between the two projects. The City Loop holds dear to me because it’s the same age as I’m in 1982 it was gradually opening and I look forward seeing these two new tunnels opening up 40 years later. The 1980s was a iconic decade.

    Interesting video. When we first moved here to Melbourne in mid 1981, only one loop station was open and that was Museum (now Melbourne Central). Then came Parliament and finally Flagstaff stations. It will be interesting to see the completion of the new Metro Tunnel.

    When the the first lines of the City Loop opened not a single one of the current trains were in service. The fleet was very different & about 1/3 of the trains were these blue Harris trains.

    Excellent video comparison! So it’s the MOLE vs the TBM - interesting!

    Interesting how the construction techniques seem to basically be the same 50 years later!

    The City Loop - the greatest legacy left by the Liberal Party for the state of Victoria.

      Er, apart from the little used Clifton Hill loop, it's 3/4s of a city loop. DIRTY DEEDS, DONE CHEAP!

      So, If it is a liberal project it is ok but if it is labour, it isnt? Infractructure should never be political, it should just be built, just ask the libs after they dismantled the NBN.

    I just cant see the benefits of its $13 Billion cost. Only 2 lines Pak and Cran will use it.

    • @johnsergei
      @johnsergei Год назад +7

      It's to add capacity.
      Before the City Loop was built most trains coming in from the east terminated @ Flinders Street where the driver changed ends (taking up time) @ sent it back out eastwood, en route or into Jollimont yards, appossing incoming trains. There were only 4 tracks on the Flinders St viaduct, west of the station & 4 lines that required far less trains.
      The lines are now at full capacity, even with though running through Finders Street.
      I guarantee. more people will use the new tunnel from Footscray-Shrine than any other section of the whole 2 lines. It will relieve the St Kilda Road/Swanston St tram lines, which are the most crowded public transport in Australia. Trams/light rail, trying to do heavy rail's work. Pity there are dozens less trams than 40 years ago (on a smaller network then too).
      Melbourne Uni- Flinders St, 5 minutes max.
      Reason why those lines is that with the platform screen doors, only the HCT can use these tunnels. Melbourne has 3 other train types in service, all with different door layouts & already these 2 lines are all serviced by HCs (lucky bastards). 40 years ago, some lines were all Taits on weekends (even luckier).

      @dailylife100 Год назад +4

      The cost is exorbitant, yes. But there is benefit to other lines as well. Pak and Cran being removed from the city loop means other lines can run more frequently as well.

    • @sealy_99
      @sealy_99 Год назад +3

      Sunbury and Airport trains (when it opens) will also use the tunnel.

    • @SpellBinder2
      @SpellBinder2 Год назад +3

      @@dailylife100 yes and the tunnel will go direct to the airport in the future so they can run direct trains from Pak Cran and there will be more trains in the loop for other services.

      @@SpellBinder2 and if we add MM2 into the equation, well, that would be efficient!
