I think she used a very fine pen or created the original art at a larger size, also I think she used Sepia rather than a dark black ink. And I enjoyed the video a lot! Great idea for a new series and a great reminder of the importance of studying the masters to learn techniques! Thanks keep up the great content!
i used to think you were pretty good with water colour, but next to beatrix potter. i gotta say she makes it look easy. the way her colours swirl together is just fantastic to look at.
Ahhh you're still so talented as ever 😭 I hope you'll reach 3 million very soon! I love the piece and this will be such an amazing series to see you grow more as an artist 💕 Also if you havent already, could you do a video about making certain effects with color pencils?? Like if someone had fire hands or holding something that's glowing? Or if they had cuts and bruises? I'm struggling to do effects with my prismas....mainly glowing...
I used to have a Peter Rabbit wallpaper in my room as a kid with various illustrations from Beatrix Potter. I remember sitting at my desk and trying to draw as beautifully as she did, but it never worked out 😅
You really see the subtle details! I envy your watercolor skills :)! I might have to try watercolor on my own channel however right now its gonna stay speed painting! Very nice video
Hi Mark, I love how you drew and painted this cute painting!❤it brings back memories of my childhood. I hope you will do more of Beatrix Potter painting. Thanks for sharing. Helene
There are so many books on BP but on I found to be a great book to learn about her style dubbed as showing BPotters “other art” . Her beginnings and span of her Natural History studies. Authored by museum curator of the Beatrix Potter collection at the Tate Gallery. Called “BP’s Art paintings and drawings selected and introduced by Anne Stevenson Hobbs”.
thank you for sharing this challenge and practise. it is very brave to show us something you are struggling with still and being so open about it. I'd love to see this become a series! also i think you did a very good job on your illustration. the lines indeed are thicker than in the original but I think you captured the atmosphere and lightness of her art very well.
Hey Mark, I just would like to say that you have been a big inspiration for me to help with my manga drawings. I have managed to get your three book serious for Mastering Manga. I would like to say that those books are really amazing and super detailed. Thank you so much and please keep doing what your doing!!
I'm such a fan of beatrix potter. I grew up with the books and they were the first real drawings I did as a kid that gave me my love for art. Miss tiggywinkle was always my favourite! You did her justice! Xxxx
Hi Mark! Would you be willing to do a drawing style challenge where you draw Miki or Brody in different art styles of popular cartoons and anime? I'd LOVE to see that!
It's very interesting to see the minor differences between her original and your copy ^^ I feel I've learned a lot from those differences alone. Thanks Mark!
This turned out so beautiful, Sir!! I'm in awe of how you managed to do the whole thing without a blob of ink escaping, because I totally would have had ink blobs 😁
Thank you for this informative video! It was the most helpful study I’ve seen. I’ve learnt a lot from this one video and hope to make my way through other videos in your series. ☺️Happy painting 🎨✨
Loved this‼️❤️🐰 I’m utter rubbish at watercolour, but watching this has inspired me to have a go at trying a BPotter pic. Thanks Mark......I would never have thought about this👍x
My sister was the big Beatrix Potter fan in the family. My personal favourite was "Lost at the Fair" by A.J. MacGregor (Ladybird), which was more of a boys' story.
Hi Mark, I have really enjoyed this video, watercolour is such a difficult technique to master the penmanship using a dip pen is even harder! I recently took calligraphy so know how fickle it can be. This is a refreshing change to manga which I also love by the way! You are super talented and an inspiration for me and many others!
I wanted to thankyou for this. You really helped me improve technique. I actually watched Shoo Rayner drawing who did similar techniques, you both helped me so much. This looks fabulous. Thankyou to both of you!
Crilly it’s like you’re tuned into my every thought. I just finished watching the Peter Rabbit movie on Netflix and I checked and saw that this was uploaded today
Aww! Your Peter Rabbit drawing looks adorable! Also could the next "Learning from the Masters" possibly be a Hayao Miyazaki challenge? I would love to see that!
So beautiful! I'm going to practice like this, too! The great composers did the same thing. Bach copied Buxtehude's organ compositions by hand and so unlocked the secrets. It's a time-honored tradition. ^_^
This is wonderful. I do believe, though, that she may be using brown ink (?) for the outlines of the head and torsos and black for the bottom half of the figures. But this is still really GREAT!
Mark Crilley, you are AWESOME! Could you make a video showing how to to paint a character in watercolor, preferably with a different type of watercolor, like pans or cakes ? But you are awesome!
I think this is a great idea, Mark! Oddly enough, I’ve recently seen two movies about Beatrix Potter and her story illustrations. lol. What a coincidence, huh?!
You are ✨✨AMAZING✨✨ I will be doing this beautiful picture for my great niece. It will go into a matted frame, and will sit next to her crib❤️ Mark, your work is absolutely gorgeous, not to mention your teaching skills are so understandable! Many draw or paint and instead of describing what they're doing, they are talking about a vacation they just went on. How can a person learn that way? For me..I can't. That's why I only go to your page and not waste anytime looking for others. I've tried and it was a waste of time! You also speak in layman terms, which for me, is so much easier to understand. I'm so happy that I found you, and I don't have to search any longer! I'm so looking forward to purchasing your books as well. I do have an advantage..my sister works at Barnes & Nobel and knows your books well. They fly off the shelves the minute they're delivered. She told me she's interested in drawing again because of the high regard the customers give you. Thought you would like to know that you're a big hit here in lower Michigan. I'm quite sure everywhere! You are that good!😊 What a blessing it is to have found you. Thank you for all you do, and for giving me and many, many, others the confidence to draw and paint! I hope you don't mind if I show you my completed project. Just not sure where to send it for you to see it. Would it be possible to email it to you? So excited to start this. Thanks again for giving this gal confidence to do this! Blessings, Janis
It looks to me that with the line work, she used more of a brown ink than a black. As you said, that could just be because of your copier though. Either way, this is amazing. It really is important to do studies.
Do you think this effect could be achieved using copic pens I know I probably sounds stupid but I really like the effect and wonder if it’s possible to actually use ink to achieve the result love your work
Technically we do studies every Friday. Mark, you're one of the masters now.
*nods*

Gorgeous! I adore Beatrix Potter's work, I'm interested in trying this as well. (I also love the song playing in this, very relaxing to work to)
I loved these tiny books with her illustrations in it when I was a kid!
Beautiful job, Mark! I love Beatrix Potter's lovely paintings, too, and have also practiced her style. You did her proud!
Yes, please more of "Learning from the Masters"!
Love, love, love Beatrix Potter, especially the film Miss Beatrix Potter 💕
damn brings me back to the old days with peter rabbit
Peter Rabbit was one of my first books. I poured over her illustrations for hours. And I still have it to this day.

I still have that book by beatrix potter ever since I was a kid😁😀
LOVE this series idea!
It looks amazing! I can't imagine how you could get better!
This turned out so beautiful, Sir!! I'm in awe of how you managed to do the whole thing without a blob of ink escaping, because I totally would have had ink blobs 😁
Another helpful lesson. Thank you! I look forward to more in this series!
Really good work, more of these are fantastic thank you 💕
Very helpful. I especially like the emphasis on learning, not on making an exact copy. Thank you for sharing :-)
Thank you for this informative video! It was the most helpful study I’ve seen. I’ve learnt a lot from this one video and hope to make my way through other videos in your series. ☺️Happy painting 🎨✨
This is so creative! Thanks for sharing some art tips 🙏🏼
I want to get into watercolor too, so this was really interesting! I might give this "Learning from the Masters" challenge a go!
You don’t notice the brilliance of these drawings until someone deconstructs them.
I'm just sad we didn't get to see the pencil work
i love Miki fall book and i have only just found this channel but i love it!
Wonderful lesson ! Thank You 😊
Loved this‼️❤️🐰 I’m utter rubbish at watercolour, but watching this has inspired me to have a go at trying a BPotter pic.

Hey Mark, I got Brody's Ghost just yesterday(8/25/18), and i'm a big fan so far.
Thank you so much!
Nice! Thank you so much!
I like this series idea. Would love to see you try some more masters in various mediums like gouache, egg tempura, etc. Cool stuff.
This was really interesting and I would love to have a go at it! I love Beatrix Potter's style and her animal characters are so cute ^.^

Great...
Lovely stuff!
I really like a quill pen but I use the fountain pen no dipping
Amazing art dude great job you did here today and thanks for the video.👍👍👍👍👊👊👊👊✊✊✊✊👏👏
Beautiful! Beatrix may have used a sepia ink instead of black - and thought.

A master learning from the master.
I love it
This tutorial is what I'm working on.
I like it.
How cute I love this what a wonderful challenge Peter Rabit is adorable
Superb
Wait its water colour? Wow didn't know that. I a copy og book from the 50's i think? as a child and absolutely poured over it. Great video :)
Can I request a drawing? I would really like to see how you draw Steven Stone from Pokémon.
It looks to me that with the line work, she used more of a brown ink than a black. As you said, that could just be because of your copier though. Either way, this is amazing. It really is important to do studies.
Your a master artist
Do you think you could consider drawing Guts from Berserk? It would be so AWESOME!
Do more
great work, i really love your videos, your channel inspired me to started my own RUclips channel
This is so helpful. Can you take a shot at Arthur Rackham? :)
its always cute seeing animals wearing clothes.
This was really great! You should definitely do more videos like this :-D Thumbs up :-)
It almost looked like her original illustration was a lot bigger than the one you created.
Hi
Oooo very nice! :D
Do you think this effect could be achieved using copic pens I know I probably sounds stupid but I really like the effect and wonder if it’s possible to actually use ink to achieve the result love your work
