The ending is pretty clear to me, though I can see how it can be interpreted as an open ending to some. He returned to her as he promised he would. It looking dream-like is the aesthetic styling of the director which he likes to use in many instances throughout the drama with the flowers falling and their clothes blowing in the wind. But it is not a dream. The book ending is similar, but the book explains a bit of how he survived, in that help comes at the last minute and he defeats the rebels and has to take time to recuperate then returns home to A-Li. They have a daughter and are happily married which they do show in this special ep 40.5. I wish the show had included that scene (of help arriving) but I guess they thought a lot of people would get it because they read the book? Idk but it’s obvious (to me at least) that the end was not a dream.
I feel the same. Even without the special episode (and not having read the book), I still see the end of ep 40 as a clear happy ending for XFF and XH. I'm just really sad about Lu Ji and Wen Ji 😢😢
Thank you for clearing this up :) Makes me real happy. I thought that he died and that this ending was real bitter to Xue Fang Fei. I have seen many other C-dramas where the main lead/leads did pass on and believed that this drama ending also followed the same tragic story ending. Many thanks for sharing :P
@@yazzay oh yes, their deaths I’m upset about because it feels as if it was a waste and wasn’t needed to move the story forward. They deserved to live and so did Tong-er. 😭
This is a great drama with an amazingly well written script, good acting, beautiful cinematography, a clever female lead, and some unexpected twists and turns!
I love the FL she’s extremely talented! The ML is also amazing! He’s so sexy ! Love the chemistry of both leads ! The whole cast and crew is spectacular! Love this drama . Hope they have more drama together!!!! ❤
Is this only me, but I feel like chinese historical drama rarely have happy endings? Like from the historical dramas that I watched only few that have happy ending, the other were sad like one of them died, they didn't reunite in the end, or open ending. That's why I always hesitate to watch historical drama because i'm afraid of the ending 😢😂
The original ending for the drama (not the novel) had Xiao Heng dying at the end, after being out numbered by the enemy. A there is a clip on twitter that shows where he was struck with an arrow after putting the pendant in his mouth, then he dies. It was Wang Xing Yue who told the director to give us a happy ending, hence the 5 minute clip of their life after marriage.
This series The Double 墨雨云间 is an absolute masterpiece 🎊🎉 the actors, producer Yu Zheng and screenwriter Ren Ya Nan this is truly a fabulous series 💯. Loved it ❤❤❤
just finished watching this drama damn too good the last ep had me in tears goosebumps the male lead damnn soo handsome the jade pendant scene perfect chemistry the female lead awesome whole cast just awesome the last episode was damnn perfect🥰😍😍😍loved every ep of this drama
It was a happy ending , depends on how you look at it. I was satisfied with everything except when his bodyguards died , I cried and my kids thought I was crazy lol
@@debbiemadden1369 yeah sometimes writers tends to make it over dramatic thats what i dont like with this scenarios the story all along is great been waiting everyday for the episodes and the ending isnt great 🙄
yeah, the ending could have been way better. I was not that satisfied with the open ending feel of it and I didn't like that Wen Ji and Lu Ji didn't survive. At least, the special gave some closure
This drama was based in a novel that had a happy and satisfactory ending for the couple, for at least the one of the bodyguard and Tong who lived for a long time, but the director chose to give us an open, rushed and not a satisfactory ending while he gave also an extra of 5 secs episode with some scrubs and tiny pieces of the daily life and happiness of our couple we all deserved to see in the final in order to calm down the dissapointment and sad impressions. Imagine for such a good story based in a book which we knew the ending, the writer was the one who directed the drama.. Anyway I regret nothing. I adored the story, the actors and appreciated their hard work and intentions to give us a satisfactory drama. PS: I don't know who was the directorbut he was not very fond to romantic and affectionate interactions. So it was good that our couple had the necessary chemistry to make us love and support them..
Well they pulled it off.👏🏾👏🏾 Yes, the cast and crew of The Double kept me watching until the end. Loved the entire cast but was sad that his Generals died in the end. Loved their characters. Unlike Love Like The Galaxy when Wu Lei’s General’s survived the finale battle these characters who were just as awesome die in the end.🥲 Overall an entertaining drama. The Double is a good watch. Enjoy!🌸💃🏽

Me too. It's like the story is still left hanging. And for some, the possibility that the leading actor is dead is there. Good thing I haven't watched this yet. Was waiting for the last episode to decide whether it is worth watching.

Oh! Ok. I will look for it before deciding to binge watch the entire series. I did manage to watch some clips and episodes but not the whole series as I fear the leading actor/actress might die or both of them would as Cdrama do tend to have this fascination of having one or both leading roles dying. 😂🤣😂🤣 Thank you for recommending it though. I don't like this Cdrama never give great dramas a sound clear ending,is irritating ,cosmos times it makes the drama a one time watch as it courts a third of the satisfaction in the end.
Hey, are you okay. It's just a drama. You don't need to get that worked up over it. The drama was well made and worth it to watch. The lead actors had so much chemistry that it was sizzling. The combination of the actors, the settings, the music, the wind, the falling petals, flowy robes and ribbons, the slow motion, and the many close-ups, all elevated this drama to something magical. So what if there were barely any kiss scenes and I have developed a loathing for big candles that sit right next to people and obscure things. I got to say that their closeness and intimacy made me feel like a voyeur witnessing such private and heartfelt moments. About the bodyguards dying...it was a war. By all accounts, they were overwhelmed by the Dai army. It would have been unrealistic to expect no casualty from our guys. The scene portrays the personal loss for our main lead, rather than just random soldiers we don't know. Always expect death when going to war. I'm just glad Xiao Heng came back alive. The rest of it just life. See...I'm not worked up. At all
@@victoriahillsfusion He did come back at the very end of the last episode.
