  • Friends, Romans, Gettysnerds(tm). Our long, national nightmare is over. Little Round Top IS OPEN!! That prominence that has held such prominence in our hearts-predominantly, as topographical features go- will be open to all THIS AFTERNOON. It’s a gorgeous day, so if you can, come out and see it. I think you’ll like it. There are curbs along the roads now, so cars have few places to park. I recommend hopping on a bus tour so you can see it without trying to find parking for hours, especially during the anniversary. Enjoy!

Isn't that typical Government logic: "people are parking their cars wherever they want.... let's increase the bus spaces and decrease the car spaces!"

It's a really nice walk along Cemetery Ridge, down to LRT, Devil's Den, Wheatfield, Peach Orchard, with a bit of verge trotting, and back along Seminary Ridge, then across the left wing of 3 July's charge.
No need to park on the battlefield at all.
I'm envious of you being able to see it.

I have been going to LRT for many years and I don't ever remember being able to park in the designated car spots. I have always had to park on the side of the road. This new reality where nobody will be able to do that anymore seems highly problematic to say the least. Not everyone wants to take the extra hours out of their schedule in order to take a bus. So I guess I'll have to circle around, walk a couple of miles uphill, or else go see it at 6-7am when everyone is still asleep or else be a good boy and take the bus. I hope this wasn't a purposeful move by the Park in order to eliminate auto traffic or increase bus revenue.

@@addressinggettysburg doesn't that screw the LBG's who won't be able to take tours up there due to the lack of parking? Also won't the LBG's have to point out the modern stone walls built up there weren't there during the battle?

I was just at LRT on Monday 8/26/24. I arrived there at 9:45am. They have 24 car spaces, including 4 handicapped. About half of the car spaces were filled when I got there. This particular monday seemed to be a pretty slow day visitor wise. I suspect if you go there on a weekend, the parking spaces will fill up fast. They had several tour bus spaces as well so I don't think parking is going to be a huge problem if you play it smart. The restoration is a HUGE improvement in my opinion. Visual interpretations, walkways, ability to explore the area, all this work was done with history and public access in mind. Bravo to a job well done. The 20th Maine area has been vastly improved. I really don't have anything negative to say. I mean I understand that the replica stone walls they built were a little controversial with some people, but really I don't see any better way they could have done this. Very impressed with the gigantic effort here. They planted scores of hardwood trees to fill out the area. Oak, Maple, Sycamore, etc. There is some fencing in the 20th Maine area to discourage tramping all around and to keep people on the path, but really there is no reason for people to do that in that location so I didn't mind the fencing.

Ah ok. Thankfully we can still park on the bottom of the hill. I’d love to go for the anniversary but something tells me it’s going to be particularly packed next week.

I was there end of last week so I just missed it. My secret is to visit later tour stops in the morning then visit first day stuff in the evening. Rarely see many people this way.

I wish the NPS would run a LRT shuttle from the visitor's center, at least for this summer, to help with the parking situation. Straight there and back so you don't have to take a whole bus trip just to get to that one stop.
