The Scott Hartwig Interview CWI 2024
Great hearing Ronnie's voice ! Even though it's been a while.
Really good. Very interesting.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks! Just finished a great civil War weekend visiting family and hit some battlefields and an area of the Confederate retreat this podcast episode is great and I've listened to it twice now but going to vacation and returning home. Take my money!
With pleasure! Thank you very much. Enjoy your vacation
23:08 One of the funniest light-hearted quips I've ever heard on a military history podcast when The host asks is a dog fight when they throw dogs at each other? Compared to a gunfight when guns are shooting at each other as the guest is saying. Lol that is so sublimely funny but no one took the bait. I will remember this forever lol!
It’s a pleasure to read a comment like this from the rare few who catch the dad jokes and laugh at them lol
1:03:49 haha. He talks about a horrible documentary that described the defeat of the Confederates to the wooden rails on the emmitsburg road. Can someone provide me a link to this documentary? Where can I find it? I'm going to watch it and laugh
I want to say it was Battlefield Detectives, but it’s been so long since we recorded this, I can’t be sure.
28:40 lol great plug for his book
I have to say, I’m really fascinated by this whole interview it clarifies. The second day is battle for me much clearer than a third reading of the Harry pfanz / titled the second day. Particularly interesting was the clarification of the location of Alexander’s batteries in the peach orchard, and that Sickles was actually on the field on the last o his regiments. From Humphreys division, I believe Left the Emmitsburg Road area. Thank you. Great job
Glad it could be helpful to you
Terrible war I watch a few videos it must have been terrible for the soldiers.🇺🇸💔
I love Culps Hill, one of my favorite places on the field! Charlie Fennell is the best! Thank you Matt!
My pleasure. Thank YOU for listening and commenting.
Really !!!??? Personally I would be Beaver Hunting.
I am so happy that I found your podcast, it is a wealth of knowledge that you can't find anywhere else presented in an entertaining and fun way. Thank you for all the work you guys put into this show.
Welcome aboard! Thank you very much. We try our best!
25:45 at this point begins the description of Joe hooker's reforms to the army of the Potomac
Hahaha. Matt you’re a really good sport for posting this. Made my evening.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hell yeah 😁
I’m completely with matt…I live in jersey and I HATE how they turned jersey into nyc. Im from Paterson where apartments now in (forgive me) this crime ridden city, are at 2000 for a one bedroom…morris county turned into Bergen county where you can’t afford to move out there or toward Sussex (but who wants to live in Sussex county 😑) so then I moved to south jersey and they are building up crazy down here. LBI now is like the freakin Hamptons. It’s like this freakin domino effect…it started in nyc and it got too expensive to crowded so people moved to jersey to get away from that and now it’s too crowded too built up here so now people are moving west to Pennsylvania which now is getting bad right outside Philly and now the bleeding is spreading as far as you guys…and it’s going to keep having this domino affect. And you’re right.. You almost can’t stop it.
Thank you! New Yorkers have always ruined NJ. Jersey folk have always ruined Pa and Va and NC and SC. It’s a tale as old as time. No you can’t stop it. You just have to run away and get ahead of it.
Matt, was that guy really fly fishing? I cannot stop laughing and need to know if this was real.😂. By the way, great job on what you do. I actually looked at the holes mentioned on the flag on the Crawford statue (I heard about on your podcast).
Oh unfortunately it is very real. And very funny
Glad you found our podcast!
So you can fish in GNMP to feed yourself/family but you can’t record a video to make money to feed yourself/family. Got it. I’m sure a permit is needed for fishing , but it’s still a bit ridiculous.
1:00:30 I have been waiting to hear more detail on the civilians who attacked the wagon wheels with axes. It was just a fleeting sentence in a Bruce Canton book, thank you. 5 years since being a teenager, I have been captivated a group of brave men. Civilians, incensed at the disruption of their lives by these rebels, risk their very lives To inflict damage upon them
APPRECIATE YOU DR. FENNELL!!!!!
Cornelius Ryan did a fantastic job of describing action in a fluid chronological order of D-Day.
Last Night's Fun from England/Ireland? Seen them a couple of times. Great instrumentation.
A good show, the cutoff on the test has to be somewhere. Someone will be the first one not to make it. Why work yourself into a frazzle over something you have no control over?
Amen!
What a beautiful thing Shining Stars is doing. Absolutely beautiful.
Terrific. Enjoyed listening to you guys.
Thank you!
Terrific. Enjoy listening to you guys.
Hell yeah Addressing Gettysburg 😎 love your stuff.
Appreciate it! More to come!
Ref visiting Culp’s Hill vs Little Round Top. Before I flew over from the UK last year, LRT's closure was a disappointing prospect. But after reading Sears, then getting a two day tour with a LGB, it was much less of a shame than I had initially expected. In fact, I went back on the final day of the visit, to prowl around Culp’s, try to make sense of orientation, and get a proper look at what the Confederates had to assault. I agree with you that was likely the most important point of the battlefield.
Irony - Richard Jordan played Armistead. He had a distant cousin who was one of the 2nd Maine boys who joined the 20th Maine. He was mortally wounded at Little Round Top. His name is on the monument.
Interesting!
Where can we find the archaeological report on the bullets on Culp’s Hill?
I would check with the park service. Good luck!
Another great show, always entertaining when Charlie is on!
Matt, your impersonation of the appraiser sounded like someone straight from jersey city. 😂that accent was more jersey than mine and I’m from Paterson 😭
Haha I was kinda picturing a cafone from that area so I’m glad it translated
Unfortunately this is my first comment: Dear Matt, I recently discovered your podcast through my interest in Civil War history and have quickly come to regard it as the best in its field. As a fellow Civil War enthusiast and music hobbyist, I've found your work to be truly exceptional. I was deeply saddened to learn of the loss of your friend. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. My thoughts are with you and your friend's family during this difficult time. Wishing you strength and comfort, V
Thank you very much. That’s a very nice message. I’ll be sure to tell Mark. Sincerely, Matt P.S. I’m just playing with you. It was sincerely a nice message and I thank you very much. Please spread the word!
@@addressinggettysburg Ay Caramba Matt!! How the heck did that happen? Very sorry & edited! I’ve only been listening for three weeks straight! As a fellow social media influencer, so embarrassing! Best, V, or is it D or B?
I bid on that letter - was written from Nashville where the federals had a series of hospitals. The dealer who had it is one of, if not the most, respected around. It was a seriously raunchy letter and quite revealing that these were normal average young men away from home and living it up - like any modern day Chad, Tyrone or Ray Ray.
lol “peoples is peoples.”
I'm absolutely with you regarding over-hot weather. (But I miss the snow in winter)
Plenty of material for me in this episode
Interesting
Hello what’s this episode about? Warn us if it’s going to be a 100% useless garbage episode
I just checked your channel to see the right way to do a show and will model mine after yours. It’s a wonder I’ve been able to make a living off this show considering it’s all useless garbage 😘
Summer is overrated. I'm Team Bethany.
Love that Six was on the show. Always enjoy his contributions and knowledge.
If there was no lake there, then why was the contingent of frogmen attached to Crawford's command? #fakehistory
Funny enough I just added this book to my list! I assume it is definitely worth getting? Just is $50 on Amazon right now 🙃
Definitely worth getting
@@addressinggettysburg Appreciate the response! Looks like I need to get the first book as well then!
Oh for sure. They’re meant to be read together. Preferably in order. It would be too difficult, maybe impossible, to read them literally together, at the same time. You know what mean.

Glad everyone’s back.. Corey Feldman was the voice of my very favorite Ninja Turtle in 1990… the great Donatello.
I put a turkey breast in the Traeger after working late and it turned into a 3.5 hour wait. Didn't come off until 11:30ish. Sliced and nibbled until past midnight. Thanks for keeping me company!
Gods work at 1:14:20 - check who wiped out the Egyptian army, see somewhere in Genesis. See Noah too-and Revelation and the person with the sword. Just saying…
You did have a nice hat on today. Nice guy, Keep up the good work.
Thanks! Will do!
