  • Farmtek Console From 2003 - Converted From Mains AC/DC Plugpack To NiMH
    I modify an old Farmtek Polaris timing console which was made in 2003, this version predates having internal batteries, and ran from a mains powered DC plug pack, I modify it to add a NiMH rechargeable battery pack which is charged from a 9VDC supply.
    I really appreciate the donations and support I get from my Patreon Supporters and RUclips Members, donations really do help me to make content for the channel and buy broken test gear, this hobby gets expensive !: defs.link/?u=f...

    Is this the same FarmTek with the owner that builds the Altair 8800 clones? I have two 8800 clones, and he sent spare parts to me from FarmTek. Thought it was interesting.

      I just did some digging, and yes, one in the same, I didn't actually know that.

    I think I have that same Digitor AC Adaptor, or a very similar one.

    usb port and a power bank?
    nimh has different dishcarge curve to lion, will drop to 1.2v/cell for most of the discharge then drop rapidly near empty

      Having followed the channel for some time I am confident that all options of cell/battery configurations were carefully considered when given the devices application and environment. Based on this I believe this was the best course of action.

      Yes the battery performance was considered when I was deciding on which battery type to go with, nimh suited it best for function and physical fitment

      @@TheDefpom i like NiMH, they're easy to deal with, just the fuel gauge doesn't quite work well with them.

      Modifying a unit for somebody else to use, and using Lithium Ion would have been a mistake. It’s just too dangerous and liable if something goes wrong. A simple BMS is not enough, careful design and consideration would need to be done. NIMH was the right decision.
      Lithium Ion battery fire…….been there done that.

      It’s an antenna

    • @Lachlant1984
      @Lachlant1984 3 месяца назад

      @@TheDefpom An antenna? What for? Can this timer be used for turning other devices on and off? What would you typically use a timer like this to control? Pumps? Sprinklers? Some other pieces of agricultural or farming equipment? I thought I saw a button marked horn on the unit, what's that for?

    • @TheDefpom
      @TheDefpom  3 месяца назад

      @@Lachlant1984 It is a receiver, it is used as part of the sports timer system, there are light curtains which detect the start and stop, those light curtains send signals to this console to tel it to start and stop, and display the time. I have done several videos on the Farmtek timer system so if this interests you, you could watch my Farmtek playlist.
