Love this pattern. Made 5 for kids for Christmas. Just finished another one for friends birthday. Still need to make one for myself. Excellent instructions.
This is excellent. You describe everything perfectly. Thank you. I have a pot luck at my quilt guild next week and didn’t want to bring a dish without a cover. Nice!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! Pattern was easy and directions clear. I made two yesterday for gifts. I used leftover quilt projects fabrics and made my own carrying handles with fabric and iron on fusible web- they turned out great! I am trying to think of others I could make one for...."sew" much fun to make and give!
Thank you Melanie. Love your presentation--easy to follow. I have made tons of things that require a lining and I can never remember how to layer the lining part into the outside, in order for it to come out, so not only have you shown me how to do this carrier, but how to fit linings to hats, purses, bags etc. You are a doll!! Thanks again!!
Absolutely Fab Melanie! What a cute & simple idea. But having a gazillion things going with the holidays coming so fast that I sadly don't have time to make even one of these; but I'm already seeing this done in recycled denim - Pockets, seams, and a little frayed like a denim quilt. It will be a great project to make to chase away the post Holiday blahs. I'd also like to add that for us quilters you made this very 'fat quarter & strip' friendly! Thanks A Bunch.
I am so excited for this project. I make a cassarole for every holiday coming up, so this will be very helpful! I even already have all the materials I need!!
Hi Melanie, Just made one of these. Thanks so much for the great pattern and the super easy directions/videos. I am planning to use it as a holiday/birthday gift for my work friends.
I love your video. I went and bought two place-mats, and didn't pay attention to size. I got my top embroidered, and went to sew them together and one was bigger than the other on one side. So I went back and bought three more. I tried these against each other, still off a smidgen, but I was able to get one of them to work. So now I have a spare pair, and took one back.
Wow Melanie, this is so awesome! I can picture myself taking the insulated casserole dish with me everywhere I go, lol. :D Great job and thanks so much for collaborating with me!!
+Melanie Ham girl, you have to try it!! Especially with this hot weather we've been having, it makes me look forward to the fall season!! :D Awww, thank you!!
Melanie thanks so much for sharing. I have been wanting to make one of these for a while, but was trying to find a good and easy tutorial to follow. I am working on some right now for Christmas gifts. I'm trying to be as frugal as I can so I am repurposing panels of old blue jeans for the outer material and using whatever material I have on hand for the lining. I am also going to put a 9x13 glass pan with their last name etched into the pan as part of the gift. You are truly talented. Thanks again.
There might be. I used my Cricut and cut out the name out of vinyl and used the negative of the vinyl as a stencil. I placed it on the underside of the glass dish and etched it with an acid etching cream I got at Hobby Lobby, with a 40% off coupon, following the etching instructions on the packaging. They turned out beautiful! I etched my design on the bottom of the glass dish. I wasn't sure how etching the inside of the pan would effect how it baked. I didn't want to take that chance. It might not effect if at all. With that being said if you etch the name on the bottom of the dish make sure that you reverse the design so it will appear in the right direction when you look through the dish with it upright. Hope this helps. :)
There is... I just searched "etching glass baking dish" and a lot of them popped up. I used the one where the lady was etching JOY on the side of the dish. I just took that idea and etched the bottom. :)
Love it.... just a couple hints for sewing newbies... the opening of the lining needs to be at the bottom and the thicker the fabric, the more difficult it is!
Miss Melanie, thank you so much for this and all the other videos that you upload to share for the world to see. I really appreciate them all! And this one is the perfect time for the holidays (And good ole jolly Saint Nick) where families and friends come together! In advance, Happy Holidays to you and your family! (SHOP til you drop! haha :oP )
Great carrier and nicely done. I am thinking that closing the end of the carrier with one continuous strip of velcro (instead of a tie ) would keep the contents warmer or cooler. I really enjoy your videos, by the way!
Hey Thanks, this is so very useful. I was wondering , when there is cooked food in the pyrex dish, it will be heavy. What could be used to the ties , that will be stronger to hold it in?
Melanie, I just picked up the materials to make this bag. After reviewing your video again I think my 2 in webbing is too thick, is there any possible way this is 1' webbing in the video? I just don't want it to over power the bag. Thanks again for the great tutorial.
I love this. I am a (very) beginner at sewing. I will have to try this one. I just hope my cheapo machine can do it. Also, I do a lot of "recycle" material. Any suggestions on what I can "reuse" as batting and straps?
+Shane, you could use flannel or perhaps a thin cotton blanket for batting but you would still need the Insul-Bright if you want the thermal aspect to hold heat. For straps you can reference my recent video Crayon Tote that shows how to make straps out of cotton or perhaps reuse a cotton or other thin fabric belt or straps. It's important to watch the thickness as your machine may have some difficulty going through several thicknesses. Good luck! It's a fun project and great for the holidays or gifts.
Is this fabric the woven Loominous line? It's absolutely gorgeous! I need to make one for all the Christmas cookies my family demands me to bake and bring! :)
I need help. My thread keeps breaking and I don't know if I need to be back stitching or not. I bought machine quilting thread but it still doesn't work. If I back stitch it immediately breaks. If I don't I have a chance of getting half way maybe.
I love this idea. It inspires me to make some for great friends who brought their sadly uninsulated 9x13's to holiday parties this year. I do have a question about the fuzzy weight in your video at beginning at 11:07 ... I don't have one exactly like that ... will a Schnauzer work as well? Thanks again - this was so easy to understand and I can't wait to try it.
I’m sorry but I’m deaf and couldn’t find where you had mentioned the size of the material cuts could you provide that for me please. What a great video easy to watch and you’re great at this. Thank you for this wonderful tutorial.
+Marilyn Nalley Yep all the info is there! Here is the link where you can find all the instructions www.melaniekham.com/how-to-make-an-insulated-casserole-carrier/
Your written instructions for the lining say 5/8 seam allowance but your video says 1/2 seam allowance. I followed the written instructions. Hopefully this will not make a differece in the finished product since I already clipped the corners.
It would be helpful if you could show the APPROXIMATE cost of each of your materials, and the total cost of your project, as you made your demonstration project. Others sewists can always cut expenses by getting re-purposed fabrics and donated notions; but made with all new materials, please estimate the cost of the components that you used, and the average/estimated total of the completed item. Thank you!

Melanie, I make a different kind of casserole carrier that take a lot more work to make. You're is so simple and serves the same function...I love it.

I know you posted a year ago but I love the idea of a etched baking dish! Is there a RUclips lesson for that?

The casserole carriers went beautifully with them too. I made mine out of upcycled jeans. I was a lovely Christmas gift to my family. :)
This is beautiful! Can't wait to make one. Thanks so much Melanie.
New to sewing and just made this after practicing on pot holders first. Success! Thanks for sharing! I may try Velcro on the tie instead next time
Love this! This will be a great bridal gift!

+Melanie Ham I have never heard of her! I may need to look her up!! lol
👍🏻👍🏻 I'm excited to begin this project. Thank you very much.
Very very cute project! Thanks
Great work.👍
Love it.... just a couple hints for sewing newbies... the opening of the lining needs to be at the bottom and the thicker the fabric, the more difficult it is!
I miss you
This is a great gift!
I think so!
I just love your casserole carrier. Where do I get the written instructions?

Hey Thanks, this is so very useful. I was wondering , when there is cooked food in the pyrex dish, it will be heavy. What could be used to the ties , that will be stronger to hold it in?
A zipper, Velcro, or a big button & loop.
Great Video! So very helpful and I am excited to give this a try. Thank you!
+Free Butterfly Happy stitching!
does using a denim needle help with all those layers?
Melanie, I just picked up the materials to make this bag. After reviewing your video again I think my 2 in webbing is too thick, is there any possible way this is 1' webbing in the video? I just don't want it to over power the bag. Thanks again for the great tutorial.
excellent idea Melanie! I think this would also make a great Xmas gift for a few family members :) I am on it!! :D

How many layers of batting did you use?
Love this tutorial, but do not see where the directions and fabric cuttings are listed. Do I need to go to your website to get these items? Thanks.

Love it, love your videos. Thank you :)
Very cute! Where did you find your walking foot for this type of machine?
It came with but you can find them on amazon or at your local sewing machine store... just make sure you get one that works on your machine ;)
Another one I love thanks for the great idea. :)
Is this fabric the woven Loominous line? It's absolutely gorgeous!
I need to make one for all the Christmas cookies my family demands me to bake and bring! :)
Yes it is!!
Having trouble finding 2 inch cotton webbing- what can we use instead?
+Christina Martin you could use a heavier weight ribbon like Grosgrain or make the straps from fabric.
what is the length of webbing
Hi Malanie , what is the measurements for the casserole Carrier
I need help. My thread keeps breaking and I don't know if I need to be back stitching or not. I bought machine quilting thread but it still doesn't work. If I back stitch it immediately breaks. If I don't I have a chance of getting half way maybe.

I can’t find the measurements for the body, ties, and straps! Help!
No description box for cutting directions!
+Marilyn Nalley Yep all the info is there! Here is the link where you can find all the instructions www.melaniekham.com/how-to-make-an-insulated-casserole-carrier/
I don't know what good they insulated part would do if you have the ends open it's not going to stay hot nor is it going to stay cold
l wished you left the music off so l could here you explaining but this made an excelent shower gift!
Your written instructions for the lining say 5/8 seam allowance but your video says 1/2 seam allowance. I followed the written instructions. Hopefully this will not make a differece in the finished product since I already clipped the corners.
i need the written instructions
Молодец!
where are the supplies
Regarding the pocket construction, instead of all the edge folding and pressing, wouldn't it be quicker to simply make a double-sided pocket?
It would be helpful if you could show the APPROXIMATE cost of each of your materials, and the total cost of your project, as you made your demonstration project. Others sewists can always cut expenses by getting re-purposed fabrics and donated notions; but made with all new materials, please estimate the cost of the components that you used, and the average/estimated total of the completed item.
