    Great information tagging lambs at young age labour intensive

    • @sheepschool365

      Definitely adds to the workload but it's the only solution when performance recording.

    Outstanding again!
    I’ve started performance recording (very minimal this year) but going to go into more detail from scanning time this year right through. What age do you tag lambs at? 2 days? Finding it very hard to get my head round tagging them so young!

    • @sheepschool365
      @sheepschool365  Год назад +1

      Thanks Neil. Interesting... that was the most difficult thing I found when starting recording. Didn't like the idea of tagging. Once lambs are dry no major issues. Some people believe it can contribute to joint ill... I'm not convinced.

      @@sheepschool365 thanks for the reply. Would love to see a video of how you performance record and how you base your decisions on the performance recorded info. It’s a mine field but I think it is so important going forward especially for picking ewe lambs to keep etc.

    Why do the Clun require recording in difference to other breeds? As a spinner I can say that Clun fiber is lovely to spin. Thanks for the tour. If I wasn’t across an ocean I’d be at the open day for sure.

    • @sheepschool365
      @sheepschool365  Год назад

      Recording is an optional task which allows farmers to make better decisions on what sheep to retain or purchase for breeding.
      I had always suspected the wool was good quality because a local wool merchant always shows a keen interest in it...

    I tag, tail, castrate and record on paper. Have always done it that way. Yes it dose take up time, but it is 4 jobs done all at once. I think the main thing is the recording. You know what mother, number of lambs etc.

    • @sheepschool365
      @sheepschool365  Год назад

      Agree it's great to know the ancestry.. it adds to the workload at lambing but I'd much prefer doing these jobs on a 5kg lamb than a 20kg lamb...👍
