    In 1967/68, I served with 3rd Squadron 11th Cavalry. Your presentation is superbly well done and representative of Cav operations I am familiar with, especially regarding the 25th Infantry Division with whom the Cav operated with on numerous occasions.
    Well done, gentlemen..

    Thank you for posting this. My father was actually an M113 tank commander in the Black Horse during Vietnam. It was odd seeing the video - as I've never seen most of that before. I wont lie, I was watching pretty carefully to see if he was in any of the content. He passed away several years ago, but there has never been a YT video that I wanted to share more

      Thanks for watching. One thing I've found interesting after posting this video is the number of people that have commented that were either in the regiment or connected to it in some way. It is a fascinating topic.

    I really enjoyed the video. Here's some more recent 11th ACR history for you. I served in HHT Regiment (Hellraisers) in Fulda Germany as a Bradley mechanic from 88 to 92 and got sent to Ft. Polk right before the draw down. We went to Kuwait as an occupation force right after Desert Storm. One of the M1 tanks caught on fire and cooked off the rounds onboard spreading to other vehicles and creating carnage throughout the vehicle lines. I remember the SGT Major crawling under a M35 Deuce-and-a-half next to me to avoid flying rounds and debris. We lost some folks during and after as we had to walk around picking up unexploded ordnance and drop it into sand-bag lined trailers pulled by Humvees. What a waist.

    Thanks for a informative video. One of my first Tank Commanders served with Black Horse in Vietnam. Best Tank Commander I ever had the pleasure to serve on his crew, and wingman when I got my own turn in the commanders seat.
    Great men fighting in hard operational conditions for armor but they made it work.
    One thing he talked about was the use of "beehive" to clear jungle around them quickly.
    We only had a setting for the round when I was in, but never saw or even trained to use it in my time in.

    Loved the video @LongShotWargaming! Can't wait for the next video Guys! First video of yours that I'm watching and absolutely loving the content! Hello from Prince George's County, Maryland!
    11th Armored Cavalry Regiment is still around, being based at Fort Irwin in California, however it's now working in the OPFOR (Opposition Forces) Role of the United States Army with M1 Abrams Main Battle Tanks and M2/M3 Bradley Infantry/Cavalry Fighting Vehicles modified to look like Soviet-Era Equipment. Only 2 Parts of the 11th ACR's Organization are part of the National Guard. 1st Squadron, 221st Cavalry Regiment is part of the Nevada Army National Guard and 1st Battalion, 144th Field Artillery Regiment is part of the California Army National Guard. I am Checking things out on Wikipedia about the Blackhorse Regiment though, so take that with a Grain of Salt even if it's the Best I can do as I'm typing this up.
    As much as I love Flames of War Vietnam and Fate of a Nation: Arab-Israeli Wars of 1948 to 1976, there's one thing that I've Noticed with the Minifigure Selection and That's with the Aircraft Miniatures themselves.
    • For Actual Aircraft, Vietnam only has the A-4E Skyhawk and the A-1D/A-1H Skyraider Attack Aircraft from the United States Navy, with they had plenty more throughout the Course of Vietnam and yet we also don't get anyone from the Air Force as well... Unless you want to use the Skyraiders as the Various Special Operations Squadrons (S.O.S.'s) they Had in Theatre.
    • As For Helicopters, We don't get the CH-47 Chinook's until Team Yankee Itself and That's Set in to start in 1985 and even with Team Yankee, there's not a Single UH-60A/M/L Black Hawk Medium Lift Utility Helicopter to be seen.
    The Same can be said about Fate of a Nation. The Israelis only get the Ouragan Attack Aircraft and the Mirage III Fighter-Bomber Jets, but there's nothing for the Egyptian and Jordanian Air Forces.
    Imagine if Battlefront Miniatures came out with Miniatures for Aircraft like the Vietnamese Mig-17's and Mig-21's or the American McDonnell-Douglas F-4 Phantom II Tandem Two-Seat All-Weather Day/Night Fighter Interceptor Jets (with Parts and Instructions for the B, C and E Models), The Vought F-8B/C/E Crusader Fighter Jets, The Grumman A-6B/D/E Intruder Attack Aircraft and the LTV (Ling-Temco-Vought) A-7A/B/D/E Corsair II Attack Aircraft for the United States Navy as well as the Republic F-105D Thunderchief Fighter-Bombers, The North American Aviation F-100D Super Saber Fighter-Bombers, The F-4 Phantom II Tandem Two-Seat All-Weather, Day/Night Fighter Interceptor Jets, The Martin B-57B Canberra Tactical Bombers (which were also used by the Republic of Vietnam Air Force and the Original English Electric Built models used by Royal Australian and Royal New Zealand Air Forces), McDonnell F-101A/B/C Voodoo Fighter Jets and the Northrop F-5A/C Freedom Fighter Lightweight Fighter Jets (F-5A's were also used by the Republic of Vietnam Air Force) for the Air Force in Vietnam or Egyptian Mig-17's, Mig-19's, Mig-21's and Hawker Hunter's as well as the Israeli Sud Aviation Vautor Fighter-Bombers and F-4E Phantom II's.
    Let me know what you think about this and I'll catch you in your next video Guys! In case anyone was wondering, I spent about an hour or two Typing this up!

      Not too badly. VC always got the drop and made their first shots count. But outnumbered & gunned, couldn't go up against the Regiment.

    Awesome batrep! We've been planning to homebrew some Vietnam games ourselves too. I wonder how you handled the automatic rifles, 2-3 shots per figure or to keep it sane just 1 per model?

    • @LongShotWargaming
      @LongShotWargaming  9 месяцев назад +2

      Yes, this created quite a conversation when we were brainstorming. We did give AK-47 and M16 type rifles a RoF of 2. This gave American squads a tremendous amount of firepower. But, another modification we made was adding 1 to the cover save of any VC unit. The result was the American squads expending an unbelievable amount of ammunition to score just a couple hits. Which in our opinions proves quite historically accurate.

    Hi guys, I am new to military war gaming and I love the look and feel of the Vietnam war game you showed.
    I have bought some 28mm Rubicon figures and vehicles but I don't know where to look for rules etc, could you suggest some online forums as well which might be able help me?
    I'm used to rolling dice with Star Wars Legion so being pinned down is kinda like suppression in that game.

    • @LongShotWargaming
      @LongShotWargaming  4 месяца назад

      Thanks for the view! If you are interested in Vietnam wargaming it sounds like you're off to a great start. The Rubicon Stuff in 28mm is fantastic. Another great manufacturer of Vietnam stuff in that scale is Empress Miniatures. As far as rules are concerned, there are several great options. I would check out "Nam 68" by Warwick Kinrade. It is recently released skirmish rules. But to list a couple other options to research: "Force of Force" (out of print sadly), "Charlie Don't Surf", "BOHICA", " Charle Company" and "FNG Tour of Duty". One of these will certainly satisfy your interests. In 15mm scale, Battlefront is a great source of miniatures and they have a ruleset for that scale called, "NAM". Happy gaming, I'm glad to hear from a new historical gamer!

    • @LongShotWargaming
      @LongShotWargaming  10 месяцев назад

      Our mods for Battlegroup are a beer stained pile of notebook paper haha, but if you have the core BG rulebook and a couple buddies to discuss Vietnam with its pretty easy and fun to come up with some Vietnam rules. For example MEDEVACs, theater appropriate vehicle and gun data, boobytraps, all kinds of stuff.

      Looks like 15mm since they look like flames of war models.

      They are (I think they actually mention it in the vid) battlefronts 15mm line for their Nam ruleset.

      If you're familiar with Battlegroup mechanisms the US force had a remaining battle rating of 4 when the game ended.

      Unfortunately our rule "modifications" are not available. But, there are a lot of Vietnam related rules available. Charlie Company, BOHICA, Force on Force, and Charlie Don't Surf are all popular.

      Hello Piers, thanks for watching! Admittedly, what we portrayed here as a comprehensive and well put together supplement is actually a barley coherent pile of scribbled notes at this point haha. But i will say the Vietnam flavored additions we did come up with blended with the existing BG mechanism quite well. Battlegroup is a great game and there's loads of potential in our opinions for expansion into other areas.

    Great video, and amazing table. Thanks for posting.
    Small thing - 'cache' is pronounced 'cash'. For it to be 'cashay' it'd need to be written 'caché' or 'cachet'. Both are words, but they're not applicable here.
