    I am in my 80s. I like to hear what other people my age do and eat. I have gotten in a rut of doing nothing. I don’t want to clean anymore or anything else. I just sit here all day every day. I have enjoyed listening to you. I need to get motivated.

      I can relate! I'm realizing doing nothing is affecting my ability to do anything. Just planning an evening meal and preparing seems to be a chore. Starting with nothing sounds good or is too much hassle to prepare. I've tried to find friends to help motivate each other, talk about what we accomplish, cheer each other on... Gosh has everyone gotten lazy? I'm finding most support, encouragement, and positive energy, etc online. I get a much needed boost from this podcast.🤩 Am gradually digging myself out of complacency and lame excuses and this program helps me continue.

      my mother-in-law is 86. she moves from the couch to read, to her desk to play solitaire on her tablet and then to her bed to watch tv. that's her entire day. she used to be an avid gardener and big fan of group exercise. she does nothing else

      OMG!!! My words & thoughts exactly! It’s like the nothingness in The Never Ending Story. Can’t say I’m depressed. I have a terminal disease called IPF. I am in oxygen 24/7. I cough SO much due to fibrosis of my lungs. As big as that all sounds, I still had gusto, enthusiasm. I love cleaning but I’m just not motivated to do anything anymore 😮😢

      One thing that has really helped me to get started on something I am reluctant to do is to count back from 5 to 1, then get up from your chair and start. This countdown idea comes from Mel Robins. 🥰

    I love being healthy but then sometimes I feel cheated and I feel like I want to have some more “junk” (sugar). Right now, I am having a cup of coffee and it is late around 7pm. I like that idea of self actualization. I looked up actualization and its meaning is to make real. Self actualization to make real to the self. Taking care of my needs. Maybe my sewing fits in with actualization. Taking fabric and making something out of it. Making it real to the self. And making it real to others. Margaret I love your positivity!

    I find the easiest way to get in your daily exercise is to schedule around it. I go to the gym at 10 and walk 5 miles in the afternoon. All other appointments and issues are scheduled around those time frames.

    My skin care includes drinking lots of water. Hydration for overall health is so important. All good points Margaret!

    I started walking a few years ago to just help my mental health , started off one mile and slowly build it up. Sadly I’m not as faithful like I use to be you mention stress I soooo have been dealing with for sure, but I have manage to keep self care as far as skin care. One thing I believed that helped my skin was I stopped sun tanning in my early 30’ish due to thyroid diagnosis and the meds I’m on says stay out of the sun. It’s true it really has spared my skin for sure. I just hope this new decade bring gentleness and grace and loving connection around me

    At a pre school age I underwent major surgery for TB peritonitis, and was not expected to live. Here I am age 77 next birthday, and yesterday did my first trial run with my new steel hand excavator from Amazon, and axed up sodden ground ready for the first six rows of potato sets. Not finished collecting leaves for making compost because the barn needs attention, then fences have to be reinforced ready for arrival of sheep. Rain this morning so turning out stuff for the charity shop, cooked ratatouille and fruit cake to last a couple of days after washing some curtains. Enjoying a Lindt chocci at the moment, before Buster gets his lead for a walk. Hoping to end my day soaking my feet in a bowl of lovely warm water with a few drops of lavender oil.

    I would recommend an excellent facial practise called Gua sha. Gua sha is a traditional Chinese medicine practice that involves scraping the skin with a massage tool to improve circulation and promote lymphatic drainage. I use it every morning after I apply my serum and then a generous amount of facial cream to allow the stone facial tool to glide over my face and not damage it. I’ve been using this practise for almost a year now and I see less puffiness on my face and it feels very relaxing as well. It’s definitely something to try. There are tons of video tutorials on RUclips if anyone is interested in starting this practice.

    I try to journal first thing every morning and include my gratitudes and plans for the day. Then I post a little note on front of my journal with 3 things I wish to accomplish today! In big bright print....like 1. Clean out fridge and cook up all items before they go bad, 2. Pay bills for month and 3. Walk 2 miles!
    Once I've completed those 3 things, I feel free to do whatever i want for the rest of the day. My mood is much more positive and upbeat after accomplishing the things I most needed to do and I'm more relaxed and sociable! On days i don't do this I feel more stressed!😮

    A cheap exfoliant for your face is powdered milk. Make a paste with water and use a cotton ball to spread on your face. Leave on for 5 minutes and rinse. Your skin will glow! I found this tip in a French skincare book.😊

      That's interesting, I've heard of some using baking soda, and years ago some people used oatmeal soap, but not tried it myself. I believe salicylic acid is included in some facial cleansers for that purpose. My mum always had beautiful skin, never used soap on her face, just Nivea, but when I tried it, my skin imperfections were more visible than ever.

      The best exfoliator I've found is soft brown sugar. Mix a teaspoon with your favourite cream cleanser (tip remove make-up with very warm flannel first!). Gently massage over your face and neck. Rinse off with very warm water using flannel, 2 to 3 times. Then use either a hyaluronic product, or a very fine oil like rosehip. Try it ladies, you'll love it. Just don't overdo the exfoliating, 3 times weekly is plenty for senior citizens 😊👍

    I do 3 mile walks a few times a week & a yoga class but I've recently started doing stretching exercises first thing of a morning ( on RUclips) and I'm building up the time gradually. Really makes you feel better in yourself.

    Margaret, I love your hair in this video! What do use on it? How do you care for it? Does stress affect hair? I kind of think it does. This year I am a lot less stressed than I usually am during the holiday season. I eat homemade lentil stew a lot. I cook it with vegetables and low sodium vegetable stock.

    Thank you for those reminders, Margaret! Sooo important! During the pandemic I discovered a wonderful at-home exercise RUclipsr named Shealae Fowler (Fabulous 50’s) who gears her workouts to older women. I’ve kept up around 3 to 5 days a week for 4 years now and really enjoy it. I also try and get out to walk when the weather is good, but really like all the different movements of a workout. :)

    Hello Margaret,,,walking is great if your psychological able to walk. My neck is full of arthritis as is my lower back..However I take my small shopping cart,and walk to our Laundry mat and our mail room.I do sit down exercise each day.I am 76 but I don't focus on my age.I still have dreams and hopes. Also my faith keeps me in hope..

    Water aerobics class, sauna afterwards, 3 times a week. Water exercise is easy on my joints while getting in stretching, HIIT (high- intensity interval training) and strength training with use of water weights. Sauna has many health benefits, too. And, there’s a social aspect to all of this. Some of my friends have joined and I have a good time talking to new acquaintances. I’m 68 now and see no end in sight for this - there are people in their 90’s in my classes. Great video, Margaret - thank you!

    One of my relaxing things to do is to prepare a cup of tea and catch up on your latest video(s)! I so appreciate you and your positive attitude, and I’m learning to stop during a hectic day to take time for something I truly enjoy. Doing so is as important as anything else, even during a stressful situation. You also set a positive example for those around you. 🥰

    Hi Margaret. I live in Norfolk in the UK. I go to nitration classes for weight loss and a weekly exercise class for those over 55 geared towards increasing strength and improving balance. I find them very beneficial. It’s run by a little company for Norfolk County Council. I thoroughly recommend.

    I need to get back in to qigong…I know it’s so healthy to move but I’m a bit sick and haven’t wanted to do anything. I’m being pulled to do some watercolor and cross stitching right now. Stopped doing intermittent fasting and putting protein in my diet for strengthening barbell exercise 🤷🏻‍♀️ RUclips has been a godsend for learning new hobbies during my inside days. 😊🙏🏽🙋🏻‍♀️👍🏽

    Every individual is different, health problems after 70 are more intensive. I've Arthritis and Sleep Apnea, hard to exercise on a regular base. We have to find the right way. Thank you, Margaret. 😅❤

      There are physical therapists on You Tube for arthritis sufferers....Cutting out processed food and adding vegetables and grass fed meats and eggs relieved my arthritis.

    Thank you for this great information. You mentioned a few like posture and deep breathing that I don't have on my list of goals but I'm going to add them. I'm so glad you shared Atomic Habits! This book gave me some powerful techniques to accomplish my health goals. I've recommended it to many friends and those 4 or 5 who read it have said the same thing.

    I usually get 30 minutes of exercise a day by recumbent cycling or walking outside or on my treadmill during inclement weather. I also do at least 3 sudoku puzzles a day to keep my mind sharp. And I usually end my days by reading.

    I'm not very mobile anymore as the result of a degenerative illness and injury. I can't walk more than a few metres and need a walker if I'm outside the house. But I started chair yoga a couple of months ago with an accomplished teacher who is also a chiropractor and so knows exactly how to protect my spine. I do the seated yoga while wearing the back brace I wear all the time except when I'm sleeping. The movements are mostly still, isometric exercises and breath work. My teacher/chiropractor has told me that I'll need at least six months of dedicated practice to see noticeable progress.
    She has a couple of signs in her office. "Self care is health care" and "Movement is medicine". She also tells me regularly that "yoga practice is a *practice*" which means improvement happens gradually, with a consistent routine, no matter how small. (This is exactly the point James Clear makes in the book Margaret mentioned, "Atomic Habits". The habits aren't atomic in terms of atomic power, but because they're tiny, the size of atoms. But they're also powerful!)
    All the exercises the chiropractor has taught me are easy to do when I'm watching RUclips videos or listening to a book or podcast. I can do most of them, like bum clenches, surreptitiously chatting with a friend in a video call.
    Will I ever walk easily again? I have no idea. But the exercises I'm doing have two key benefits. First, and most obvious, they help keep my joints "lubricated" and my muscles working more than if I weren't doing them. But the second goes a bit deeper. As someone with a chronic illness and chronic pain, it seems I spend half my life in and out of doctors' offices and hospitals, and that I'm at the mercy of a faceless, but all-powerful medical system. I've written elsewhere that it's not that I feel like I'm a cog in a machine. I feel like I'm what the machine eats. My yoga practice-however laughable it might seem to call such tiny, easy movements "yoga practice"-is something under my control, something I can do to help myself, that gives me a sense of personal agency.

      I need to take a fresh look at my skin care products and not just scrub away with a drop of baby oil before bed. Tidied up my gardening hands a bit this week, and then my feet need a makeover because they've lived most of their life in wellies. My bunion glows in the dark, surrounded by corns.

    I needed reminding about skin care.! I live in the country and am outdoors a lot and don't do enough, especially on my face and neck...and it shows! 😢 I have lines and sags, especially now after having lost weight for health reasons. Any inexpensive suggestions, anyone?

      Hi Theresa. My diet is very simple. I eat mostly plant-based foods. I do still eat salmon. I love yogurt and eat a few eggs each week. Mostly drink decaffeinated coffee and tea. I love salads and that my dinner tonight was salad with tuna and feta cheese, olives, tomatoes, red peppers, and some olive oil salad dressing. I don’t eat as much but I used to only use milk in my tea. Very simple really :-) how about you?

    The problem is, that you can not find healthy food in the United States, everything is toxic. I talked to my doctor regarding this issue and he responded, that you can only eat healthy if you grow your own food, and he was not the only person, who told me this.
    This is the truth, food is healthy in Europe but most of viewers living in the US. I just want to clarify the facts. 😊

    I try and keep my focus on Jesus and to spend time with Him as much as I can. To rest in Him and His love for me gives me satisfaction. How He loves us all. 💕🙌

    i'm 59 and already have a myriad of debilitating (chronic pain) health issues, nothing that effects longevity but these things effect my mobility, energy level and mood. i can only imagine things further declining

    Diet. What works for you. Don't go for the status quo. Maybe you don't need 3 meals a day or loads of veggies etc. Listen to your body and not the "food pryamid." Mental health. Though exercise helps, be more direct. Puzzles, video games, anything where you have to think.
