- In this video, Ghenry gives you a detailed look into one of the most bizarre ports ever made: Dead Rising on the Wii!
EDIT: This original review missed the "Odd Jobs" portion of this game. Please watch my video "Dead Rising Supplementary" to know my thoughts on it.

Mall footage: • DEAD MALL SERIES : Aba...
I said the naughty f-word too many times in this video.
Satan hellmann really demonitized and yet they don't follow or even care about not getting demonitize cause some youtubers are underated
That's a good thing. This video is great.
Fudge Fudge Fudge Fudge Fudge Fudge Fudge Fudge Fudge Fudge Fudge Fudge Fudge Fudge!
You should do far cry vengeance
Fuck you. Get funny!!! Cussing doesn’t make you edgy or funny
I gotta give them credit; they tried to replicate the feeling of the original. Everything wrong with this port is because of the console; not powerful enough to handle what pushed the 360 to its limits. You can hate this all you want, but it's clear that they tried and didn't just come out with a shitty clone.
Sorry, that statement is invalid. Capcom was simply trying to cash in on a great title. This port looks almost like the iPhone game that came out like 10 year ago or something.
@@13Gangland even samurai warriors 3 on the nintendo wii managed to achieve more despite the limitations of the console, being a game that shows a high quantity of characters on the screen and a bigger map overall
BenGamer Yup, and everything else is completely different and closer to Dead Rising, your point?
@@13Gangland I think he mostly meant the developers of the game. Sure, Capcom just wanted extra cash in their pockets despite this port being on a weaker system will inevitably be poorer, but I guess we should probably give the assigned developers a break. Can't excuse them for not including Adam's theme though lol.
they should have made the game from the ground up to take advantage of the system
When capcom said they were going back to their roots for dead rising 4 they accidentally used the wii version
@BaneOfPhillipBurnell Are you trolling or just a moron?
The Troll Killer The same question can rightfully be asked to you. Care to answer?
@@MisterUnknown707 no u
@Chandler Burse Maybe. It's kinda hard to tell, when there are so many morons on the internet.
Nah, this game is a proper Dead Rising game, you can’t really compare the two
Plays game for 10 years. "No im not a fucking nerd" Ok.
Kazuiyo Senpai got em

Chop Til You Drop was such an interesting experiment in my opinion. The sheer fact that a version of Dead Rising was made for the Wii is frankly(heh) bizzare yet when I played it I couldn't help but admire how faithfully the team at Tose tried to recreate many elements of the original DR as best they could in most areas besides the psychopaths and the use of the RE4 engine.
Certainly an incredibly strange decision to put DR on Wii, a game known for pushing the 360 hardware to its limit in terms of the number of models on screen at once.
Exactly. It tried to be a similar game, but drumming its own beat at the same time. Very ambitious, but also bizarre.
This was funny as shit. I'd be down to watch you explore some more terrible Wii ports, seems like the system was full of them haha
I have no clue if there's other examples as wacky as this game, but I'd love to discover them if there are lol
GhenryPerez check out the wii ports of call of duty
GhenryPerez How about Tomb Raider Underworld? Not really bad, but...it's something else.
GhenryPerez possibly The Godfather Wii port? I recall that shit being super whacky but I could be misremembering
IkesDaddelbox to mention tomb raider underworld on Wii In my house is a sin
Dead Rising *oN MoBiLe?*
Gorfilippe Yup. On iOS of all things.
Fede 64 well bully scholar ship did this and it worked quite well
Hey Joji Oh, really? I didn't know that.
Dead Rising Mobile looks like a early PS1 Game
Oh no what's next dead rising on the switch
so is it better than 4? i mean it just looks like Resident Rising
It's better as an experience, simply because of how bizarre it is. It might just be AS monotonous as Dead Rising 4, but it has more variety in its design because of the liberties Tose took in porting the game.
No offense, but you do realize you can use Greg's shortcuts on missions for a lower grade (such as a B) right?
Evil Rising
Dead Resident
Rising Evil
I actually got into dead rising from this game. I still pop it in every now and then, its not a masterpiece but its pretty nice, it definitely fills the void for more re4 wii content for me though lol
Lol Resident Rising
THIS WAS THE ONLY VERSION OF DEAD RISING I HAD AND I LOVED IT SO MUCH THAT WHEN MY WII MESSED UP I CRIED THAT I COULDNT PLAY IT AGAIN AND KNOWING THERE ARE BETTER VERSION MAKES ME SO HAPPY OMG
fuck. no fat cop zombo.
I have a Wii U and I love it. Not only does it play U games, but it also plays Wii games. I recommend it
It's a good wii game.
@@imnotvaniq6856 it’s the worst version of Dead Rising
I said it's a good wii game
This brought back repressed memories of not having an Xbox and wanting to play this. I thought they were both one in the same then I get to the remake and was confused as to why they got rid of the zombie poodles and birds and why the park was longer.
Same here except I was aware of the differences as a kid. I just wanted to play this regardless because all I had was a Wii. Dead Rising was my childhood despite me never playing them until I was like 13.
@@friendofp.24 bruh 13 is still childhood lmao , im almost 30 njow and i consider anything i played before 18 as my childhood as i was still a child until about 23 as everyone else is mentally

13:27 I agree, I actually feel like theres alot of people my age who have no idea downgraded ports used to be like this.
It's what I instantly think about when I see people nitpicking pixels in the switch version of a multi platform game
Great video. You pretty much said everything I had to say at the time this game came out. I'm a huge Dead Rising fan, but I'm pleased to see that people didn't buy into it. I did the same thing you did. I played Dead Rising on the 360 while I waited for Dead Rising 2 to drop, instead of playing this cashgrab.
Hey sweg
But it's not a cashgrab...?
I had a wii at the time and had no 360. I was pleased to play this game; with 2 friends we played and followed the story. It has been enjoyable but I see some things have been left asside. I has still been an enjoyable and complete game for the wii!
Wasn't there an IOS port as well? Wonder if that was any better than this one. Either way, this game looks surprisingly okay, if incredibly inferior to the original version. At least there was an effort to make something that resembled DR and worked with the hardware, instead of just releasing an incredibly slow and broken version of the 360 game on the Wii.
I dabbled with the iOS game years ago . . . maybe I'll look into it again, lol
PortalGuy200 as someone who completed the iOS port way back in the day on my old ipad back in highschool during study halls it was pretty damn good! Capcom used to make awesome iOS games but it seems that they gave up these days and even pulled some of their games
The ios port looks like mgs1 but dead rising
The psychos were so poorly made, i love their characters, but some of them werent thought out thoroughly enough for combat.
Yeah, they were either easily taken down (due to gunplay), or just ridiculous.
If Dead Rising 1 was Superman, then Chop Til You Drop was Bizzaro. Talk about the copy and paste of Resident Evil 4's engine. It's basically a reskin, with slight adjustments.
I've finished Dead Rising 1, story and achievements (trophies) all, and it was an ingenious experience. Going to try Dead Rising 2 soon!
Tyler Calhoun how was getting saints achivement
I Eat food Quite satisfying, thanks for asking. I also pulled off an All Nighter for 7 Day Survivor as well.
Tyler Calhoun I only have half the achievements the Rest i need require time
its also marginally worse than re4.
What is dead rising 4 in your eyes abomination?
Oh, man... This was the first Dead Rising I ever played, and I liked it quite a bit. Of course, being the first version I tried helped me in not noticing the whole "Resident Rising" feel too much, but still. I should go back to it now that I actually played the real deal.
If you've never played the original version, I highly recommend it. The PS4 port is wonderful, and the PC version of it is even better.
GhenryPerez I bought it just two days ago, but I still haven't managed to get to it. I did play quite a lot of DR2 and OTR, though.
The wii version is the first time I played Dead Rising too, I didn't realize how much I missed out on until I got a 360
This was the only entry in the series i ever played too! Being a kid who only owned a Wii could be rough at times haha.
I played it as a kid as well and loved 100 percent completed the game good times
I'd hate to see you stop doing dead Rising videos, I just binged them all a few days ago.
Well I hope you give my other videos a try, but there is more DR goodness down the line!
I actually really liked this game.... then again I was a kid when I played it
iMafiaBoyz
If you want to play the original.
Get the PS4 or Xbox One or PC remastered port.
DareMan172?!?!
I don't really want to play this game over again when I already have the DR3 on pc
iMafiaBoyz
Still worth of buy.
Just play the game for fun.
Thats true I guess
I definitely think that DR2:Off The Record is definitely the best in the series
I definitely think its definitely the most definitely definite game in the series, definitely.
I agree, well it’s either off the record or the first
BassBoosts bitch
I prefer the first Dead Rising. But Off The Record come close in second, Frank West, good story, sandbox mode. Just an absolute amazing game.
i agree and i know like 3 and 4 are different but i really loved 3 and 4 was pretty good imo but yes otr is definitely the best
The mall actually being DARK in the night is actually pretty nice, it was supposed to happen in the original game too but they scrapped it.
Yeah, I remember seeing something about that. In the final build on 360, there's always a spotlight on you when the power is out, but earlier builds didn't have that.
Unpopular opinion.
I like this game, not as much as the original but as a different way to play dead rising, it's good enough.
Am I alone on this?
And besides, I do like it better than 4
Guilherme Almeida
Well I highly recommand to play the original game for PS4,Xbox One and Pc.
It's much more difficult than the Wii version.
I did and I love both versions just fine.
I dont get the hate behind this version, its for the Wii, what did you expect?
Guilherme Almeida well it's just that, missing a lot of key things from the original dead rising, still I thought I enjoyed it for a wii port
Guilherme Almeida I love Chop till you Drop. If anything, I love it more now that I realized it was made by a different company, so I can appreciate the effort they made to convert everything into the RE4 engine.
To be fair though, if DR wasn't made for the 360, the Wii would be a classic example of a console holding back a game's true potential.
This is how I mainly experienced the first Dead Rising and I don't regret it.
Well this was a weird and random video on my recommendation list?
You wanna see extreme? Look at the 360 version of Shadow of Morodor
When you're talking about the dream comparison I totally agree.
I think it's the most sensible analogy. I almost wish this practice was more common
GhenryPerez ya I just really agree, because I have had dreams like that.
Chop till you drop holds a special place in my heart because it was my introduction to dead rising. I really enjoyed it when I was younger but seeing it now In 2020 I kinda feel like dying after realizing how much I missed when I played the original in 2017
Gonna have to disagree with you here; I didn't find this game boring at all. (Heck, I had hours and hours of fun) In fact, this is the game that got me into Dead Rising and made me want to play the original. Still I respect your opinion and will like this video regardless since your criticism is fair.
Mario Bermudez Thank you I was the same had a wii with so many games downloaded for free fell in love with this game played it for hours got everything in it and then wanted to play the original and the rest of the series so I don’t get the hate
I like it in waves, but definitely not as compelling as the original on 360 or the Remastered versions on Steam, Ps4, and One. I don't recommend the Ps4 version though, it had some crashes that screwed up gameplay. One version is the best one.
Just got the ps4 version and was totally overwhelmed trying to get the first shotgun during the opening zombie mall invasion scene. Though being level 1 of course didn't help. Couldn't imagine the quietness off the Wii version...
I was a Wii owner and remember getting really hyped by this game because I was addicted to the Wii Edition of RE4. I got it as soon as it came out and remember having a blast with it. My friends owned a PS3 and RE5 so they always teased me with the fact that it wasn’t on the Wii, but when Dead Rising: Chop till you drop became a Wii exclusive I fired back.
As time went by, I started checking out gameplay of the original Dead Rising and started getting a little dissapointed. Also I noticed a lot of flaws and what felt like missing content in the game. Finally, when I got my hands on a Xbox 360 and played Dead Rising 2 my mind was blown, the Wii version (that I actually enjoyed) was an insult, although I never got used to the timer on the original games
i played the 360 version first when i was a kid and later got the wii version and never had a problem, they even added new content like those bonus missions in the main menu, i just saw it as a alternate version of the original like what they did with DR2 and added frank west.
I remember chop to you drop having disembowl, a timer, being able to kill survivors, and no annoying mission music.etc. And I know I'm not confusing anything because this was the first way I played it sadly
I for one enjoy the Wii port of DR1 more than the 360 version, because it doesn't have a fucking stupid time limit, so I can take my sweet ass time in preparing the best weapons, rescuing one survivor at a time, and progressing through the story.
For some odd reason this version of DR1 is a huge guilty pleasure for me.
Vash, The Ashtray
Well this game is much easier compare to the original game.
It's basically a RE4(same engine) with reskin of Dead Rising 1,but with more linear style gameplay.
At least it's better than DEAD RISING 4!!!!!
Amen to that!
Same I played this first I love it
3:12 Actually you can disembowel but it’s at the end when you kill Brock Mason. I couldn’t find any other evidence where you can disembowel enemies though.
Don't chop. Just drop.
I liked how you deal with the convicts on the Wii better than the original. I'm a sucker for cinematics.
The new guns and saving Cletus is a great addition.
I also like the move where you straddle Brock Mason and just punch him over and over. Makes for a more Cinematic end fight than just having to cheese him to have a chance.
Tose Software actually has a pretty impressive pedigree. They created the Starfy series, they co-develop both WarioWare and the new Paper Mario games with Intelligent Systems, developed a lot of handheld spinoffs like Kirby Block-Ball, Tetris 2, the Game and Watch Gallery series, Kid Icarus Of Myths and Monsters, and Super Princess Peach. They also ported a bunch of the older Final Fantasy games to PS1 and GBA, alongside Chrono Trigger.
Most impressively though, they helped porting Breath of the Wild to Switch.
For $10, it is worth it. It is vastly inferior to the 360, but the controls are interesting with aiming like you said. I find the animals like poodles, boss zombies, and parrots to be really annoying. Because of limitations, lots of areas are blocked off for you to go a linear path. Is it atrocious considering the limitations of Wii ? No. It is actually a decent port in that regard. Dead Rising 1 is my favorite game of all time.
I never realised how many people love the first game, and think it's the best in the series. always liked two more myself
I like the 1st's plot more, but the 2nd is my favorite in terms of gameplay. 3 was meh, while 4 wasn't that bad to me.
Just the fact that you took footage of a guy playing Wii Music, one of the most childish games on the console, and showed it next to Dead Rising...
This literally could've just been a Resident Evil game. The UI's design style isn't even close to Dead Rising. It's designed like an entirely different game(which it is)
Seeming Frank reload a red 9 is surreal for so many reasons.
Good stuff again.
With my love of the original and knowing it inside and out like you (recently did another "perfect" run just to get rid of the stench of 4 and did the same with OTR just for good measure) I always avoided this but as the series goes further off in one direction I think I'm gonna give this a go, I have a Wii U and it's less than £4 on Amazon.
Try it! It's amusing in some ways, but it gets really monotonous.
Yeah gonna get it, Dead Rising is my favourite game of all time so really should at least try it.
You say that you are running out of material, have you ever thought of doing an in depth video on how the original Dawn of the Dead inspired it? (to the point where Richard P. Rubinstein tried to sue Capcom)Your comprehensive videos o the series makes me think it would be good.

"Another barricade"
Wow, Dead Rising 3 is here
Loved every second of this video. It amazingly explained everything I was wondering about the game and it really shed alot of light to me. I recommend it for any true Dead Rising fan.
2/10
That song midway through was 808 state right? I like that song.
Yep!
*And now, basically playing Dead Rising in the Wii...
MY FUCKING WRIST, AAGGHH
They did a pretty good job trying to salvage DR1 the best they can.
This game was my childhood. I actually didn’t know that dead rising was an xbox title until years later. But i loved it. Chop till you drop created my love for the dead rising series and I didn’t even know it was for xbox. (As a kid I actually didn’t even know xbox was a thing. It was just playstation 1 and 2. The wii and ds lol
I wonder if it would fare better on the Switch. I mean, Dead Rising 1 on the go? That would be fucking awesome
Disabowel you can do it in the wii version but you need to be level 50
This was hilarious to watch and an unexpected nostalgia trip, Dead Rising Chop till You Drop was my first Dead Rising and its what made me fall in love with the franchise. That just shows you, Dead Rising's story/gameplay was strong enough to transcend shitty ports. Don't be so harsh to my baby
First deadrising I played never gone back to it but I will think about it still to this day and think how I wish the console version had the zombie dogs and if I remember correctly zombie birds. Thanks Capcom for great memories
I actually liked the wii version gunplay system. Had the Xbox 360 version had this…. It would’ve been amazing
I played the shit outta this game on the Wii lol I loved it
Not goma lie...kinda impressive how they managed to replicate the game and the change they did
Switching Adam's original theme for Kent's original theme, thereby removing Adam's original theme was an unforgivable crime, I couldn't watch any further. It felt like an hour of reverse diarrhoea.
Psycho themes in the game were an integral part of the storytelling process. But who needs that? *ME, I FUCKING DO.*
When I heard pacific-707 start playing I got really confused and checked my music playlists, ha.
Im actually kinda happy Cletus lived, though he killed. I guess I dont really blame most psychos though, they broke mentaly.
I felt really bad for the clown Adam and Steven the supermarket manager. They were just doing their job when the outbreak happened and lost their mind.
This was my first dead rising and it caused me to fall in love with the game. I know the game is bad but I still play it from time to time lol
So im the only one who enjoyed it?
When you said I will not stand for this you sounded like nergal jr from billy and Mandy lmao
Really hope you continue making in depth analyses since your dead rising critique is now full circle. I love your content.
I appreciate the kind words. If you haven't seen it already, I've done a similar analytical retrospective on the entire Contra series, so maybe take a look at that if you're familiar with that series! And yes, I'm working on similar videos for the near-future, thanks for sticking around!
I remember picking this up when i had to send my 360 for repairs. It's not even in the same league as the original 360 version, But as a smaller, condensed arcade like title, It was actually a lot of fun considering all of it's setbacks. Strange but really fun.
It did have disembowel, I remember coz I played the shit outta this game
4:30 These models look about as good as the ones on the Tony Hawk games for the original PlayStation. Kinda reminds me of Street Fighter Alpha 2 on the SNES vs on the CPS2.
"Still better than DR4" yeah butchered port of 11 years old game is better than not even year old AAA game. That says something about games these days.
I feel bad for those who played DR4, called it piece of shit and wondered how so boring series could have 4 instalments.
i still intend to play 4.
You'll sleep before you finish it :D
I honestly can't find one reedeming thing about this game. It's the worst kind of mediocrity that offers nothing but boredom.
disney era power rangers yeah.... A fool and his money are soon parted.
disney era power rangers I got the “franks big package version on ps4”. It came with all the dlc and add ons. I didnt think it was bad. I love 1 and 2. I wouldve rather them release part 3 on the ps4, but i didnt hate 4.
@zombie7ish True. I actually enjoyed it more than 3. My favorite was 2. But then again I enjoy shows & games that most people complain about. I feel like people are acting like kids who are picky about food and I'm just glad to actually have food, period.
I love the part in the video where the audio travels back to 2006.
Same
This video is hilarious, I’m a huge fan of dead rising on the 360, never knew it was made for the Wii (I had one but hardly played it) glad I didn’t know they made one as they definitely butchered a masterpiece to make it fit the Wii
If you really doing everything Dead Rising, are you convering the movies? Dead Rising Watchtower and Dead Rising Endgame are... interesting, to say the least.
Igorowan eventually, yes. Got a few more ideas before that, though
Still amazes me how this game came out 18 years ago and still looks this good.
Did they add new guns for this port? Or am i bad at finding guns in the original
None of the guns from the original game are in this port. All of the guns in this game are from Resident Evil 4.
GhenryPerez wow, thats both cool and sad.
No friendly fire on survivors is a godsend tho
This is the version I played first as a kid and I loved it. I had heard of dead rising from kids at schools and when I finally got my hands on chop til you drop I couldn’t stop playing it. I eventually got to play the originals much later and realized that the wii version was missing a lot, but it was pretty good for what it was and got me interested in the series as a whole!
Wii? Holy shit, this looks like a fucking 3DS port!
I found that wii version was better for telling the story and keeping the experience as close to the original with new features. Thanks for making this game because some people couldn't experience the first game and it has a really good story that you still get to experience from dead rising 1. I agree better than dead rising 4. I hope to god they fix the game series before dead rising 5 ends it =(
I have this game irl and i knew it was the worse version i could get but damn seeing it side-by-side really shows how bad its
bad how
@@cmoneytheman you cant take photos which was the way you leved up and save certain people the mall is smaller and alot of stuff is missing
like the psychopaths and they replaced them with zombies also they randomly just block your way in the most random way
Gone Guru is the best ost 😤
A port was a terrible idea, maybe an original game with more claustrophobic environments to negate the reduction of on-screen zombies in wide area would have done better
My first and only game I played from the Dead Rising franchise, was this Wii port. I enjoyed this a lot
Lol is that ThisIsDanBell's work in the intro?
I think I was 12 when I played this and I thought it was the shit lmao I didn't even know there was an Xbox version when I was 12
The Wii version was my first experience with Dead Rising, I remember liking it until I played the infinitely better Xbox 360 version.
Homie the first two clips before 0:16 seconds are ThisIsDanBell I recognize them instantly from the dead mall series. You can't just take that shit like it's your own.
I see you linked it in the description
Nevermind brotha
I'm glad this popped up in my recommendations. I rented this game back when game rentals were still a thing. I had only played Dead Rising 2 at the time, and playing this game was baffling. Even more baffling when heard people praising Dead Rising 1. Not knowing there were multiple versions of the game, I just thought it was a bad game. I was almost wondering if I had a Mandela effect. Lol. Glad to know I didn't just imagine this games existence.
Always been a fan of the Dead Rising series and it's great to come across a channel that will focus on/talk about it. Keep up the great content and maybe we'll be able to get a sequel that doesn't need a DLC to take back pissing everyone off (AKA Frank Rising)
I remember when I was younger beating deadrising seemed nearly impossible to me. Then one day, my friend said that he beat while we were discussing that. I was shocked and wanted proof, so when he pulled it up on the wii I was very surprised to see the game on the wii, I always saw it as a strange thing, something that did not make sense to me. I didn’t quite understand this anomaly until this video.
IMO the first dead rising is underrated u had to have been there to understand how ahead of the time this game was
Cletus's laugh was the best thing I've heard this week
I know the game wasn't nearly as good as it could have been, and has some serious head scratching choices, but at least they tried something. They could have easily just not bothered at all or done it half assed, but man, I give 'em props for trying something new-ish.
Fantastic video, as always.
Random thought: Although you and many others have said DR4 sucks, I still am waiting for a sale to bring it down to 10 bucks or so I can try it out. Hopefully if DR is given another chance, Capcom get a different dev to work on it. Maybe the current dev has just ran out of ideas or something, I'm not sure.
In Capcom's eyes, CV has failed twice. I really don't think they're going to be given yet another DR project. If we're to see a new installment, it'll probably be outsourced.

I'd like to see a DS Port

“Huh…”
Funny enough (and a VERY unpopular opinion here, I know), I actually can't get into Dead Rising on most other platforms, but I played the hell out of Dead Rising on Wii; lost track of how much time I spent on it honestly, but I played it to completion and beyond. I've tried DR 1 and 2 on the 360 and, while the graphics, controls, complexity, and atmosphere are notably better, I couldn't manage more than about 2 hours in either of them before putting the controller down in disinterest, yet something kept me coming back with the Wii version; I still don't quite know what it is, but it remains my favorite DR to date.
Big DR fan here. You shortly mentioned the DR ending "zombie count" on Xbox being removed from Wii. Does the volume of zombies in the cutscene depend on total killed during playthrough?
It actually looks like the smartphone version of the game. The blurry graphics, short draw distance, vanishing killed enemies, the close camera behind Frank. I actually think the mobile version was ported from the Wii-version of the game.
This was my first dead rising game
Does it actually look that blurry and washed out on the TV? It looks like the mall is covered in a layer of dust and the player camera is smeared with Vaseline.
Yeah, that was captured from a real Wii setup and a copy of the game. I'm not sure if it would look much better emulated, never really tried.
You want some of this "ports" with extreme limitations?
RE4 mobile and most PSP ports (Dante's Inferno, Army of Two are the most notable examples) sure are similar products to this.
Still, the funniest part of it, is that it's actually RE4 in disguise.
As bad as the Wii port is, I'm still glad for it since it was my only way I could experience DR1 back in the day.
