Congratulations on finding the band many think has grown into arguably the best rock band on the planet 🌏!! 🔥 If you continue the journey with the Maids, I’m sure you’ll come to feel the same. The Maids were always good, even great, yet they have grown and progressed musically in so many ways. Enhorabuena!!!!! No BAND-MAID, no Life !!!!! BANDMAIDHEAD ¡¡¡¡¡
Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog mayhem to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 11th year with the original line up. Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. Her idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. They call their concerts "servings" and their fans "Masters and Princesses". Oh, and Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. Welcome to the pigeon hole Po!
Welcome to Band Maid❤ We all know this first smile when hearing your frist Band Maid song .. expecting not much but being surprised 🙂 If you want to continue with a more recent song then I suggest "Protect you" from last month .... or their collaboration with "The Warning" just a few days ago: "Show them" (mmmh, maybe a bit later after some more Band Maid songs and at least one "The Warning" song 😅). But don't miss Band Maids LIVE servings (see more suggestions below). These ladies are masters at their instruments: Kanami (composer and lead guitar), Akane (drums) and Misa (bass). Then there is lead vocalist Saiki who is perfect for the Band Maid sound and Miku Kobato (rythm guitar, pure energy, most lyrics, fantastic backing vocals and harmonies). Miku wasn't able to play the guitar when she founded the band in 2013. I don't know of any other band where the fans' playlists differ so much. My favourite is currently "Corallium", but here is just a quite random selection of songs: For some very special LIVE videos try "Freedom", "Corallium", "Play", "Real Existence" and Endless Story. With "Moratorium" (Live at Zepp), "Rinne" (MV) and "Dice" you can hear more hard rock while more catchy songs are "Choose me" (MV) and this one, "Alone" (MV). And if you want to hear some ballads then maybe "About Us" (MV) and "Daydreaming" (MV) are good picks. But don't miss some of their instrumentals like "From now on" (MV) and "Onset" (Live). And finally a very special mind blowing live performance is "Manners/Blackhole" (Official Online Live) 🎸 At least these songs are needed to get the full story of Band Maid! And there is more: For example the songs with Miku in lead, their christmas acoustic concert and the 'cover band' Band-Maiko ;-) They have rock, pop punk, funk, jazz, prog and more elements in their reportoire! Especially their earlier works are pop punkish 😅 About the Maid thing? They use many elements from japanese 'Maid Cafes' where Miku once worked: They call their concerts "Servings" (okyu ji), their audience "Masters and princesses" (goshujin-sama to ojou-sama) and each concert is sweetened by Mikus "Magic Spell Time" (Omajinai), a 'magical' moment for everyone ... full of energy! And of course there is their outfit which changed alot since their early days but at least Miku is staying with this classic Maid outfit. You can learn alot more from fan videos and from the wonderful documentary series made by Ohrenje and Kaspar Michael (narrator). Band Maid is much more than just their great songs! Have fun... Po Some other band recommendations? Then try "The Sixsters" from Ukraine (Pick any song: For us...for me, City, Media Minion, Seem to dance, ...) and "Gacharic Spin" from Japan (song suggestion: "Mindset").
And they will just keep getting better as you keep listening to them. Trust me. Top tier musicians, spectacular song writing (this is their FIRST song written by the band to see the light of day) and great lyrics. Their more recent stuff has English subs, but with a few exceptions I'd avoid trying to read them on your first listen. You'll find as time goes on, the instrumental parts are much more complex and nuanced than meets the eye. I could write a book, but these ladies are FUN with a capital F while still being impressive as hell to the musician or discerning listener. And their songs are highly re-listenable because you'll hear new things every time. They are also a LIVE band above all, so check out their official lives. And if you have a chance to see them, cancel ALL of your other plans (maybe even insist on moving your wedding date) to see them. The exchange of love between band and their fans is something everyone should experience. Cheers and congrats on finding this miraculous band. You haven't seen anything yet - trust me.
Band-Maid call themselves a hard rock band. They mix in many different genres of music though. I would suggest that you check out some of their Official Live Videos. A good place to start would be the latest ones from Yokohama Arena. Don't You Tell Me and Hate are straight up bangers with guitar vs bass duels, and Endless Story is a tear jerker that even choked up the singer, Saiki, and the drummer, Akane, since it was the last song of their 10th year anniversary tour. If you listen to something that you are not fond of then try somethng else because their songs are quite different from one to the other. Have fun with itt!
This is a genre less band and is the best current rock band on the planet !!!! Keep listening and you'll see. Check them out live. Real Existence LIVE is a must listen !!!!!!!!
Good suggestion by the Jolly Roger. First song their label allowed them to release which they wrote themselves. It's only got better from then on. They're stupidly good now.
There is a playlist of first-time reactions that you are not on at least yet. But I can tell immediately the way you said Band Maid that this was your first time. Hope it's not your last
Enjoyed your reaction Jeff. I especially liked your honesty about nitpicking the unfamiliar language cause it's so true to new listeners. Most of their music is so good that after hearing a couple of songs, you become numb to it. When you're intrigued, it becomes normal to look up the lyrics later. Hope you do more reactions to Band-Maid. Thanks.
You can discover a fantastic world of all-female japanese bands in addition to the amazing Band Maid, all very good in their kind: Lovebites (Metal), Nemophila (Rock/Metal), Hanabie, Hagane, Yokai ... The most beautiful music is in those parts, and it is woman!
Great reaction, Geoff! "Caught me off-guard" -- yeah, you'll get more of that if you continue listening to Band-Maid, which I'd _highly_ encourage. Pop punk is really only one aspect of their sound. You'll find all manner of styles and genres, but all distinctly Band-Maid. But one thing you'll soon realize is the incredible consistency of great songwriting and performance. FYI, you'll get English subs on more recent videos, especially >2021, when they changed labels. Other good starting points for Band-Maid: Hate?, Domination (live), Puzzle, Warning, etc. Honestly, you can pick just about anything from their channel and run with it.
Appreciate that! I will definitely be checking out more. The biggest 'caught me off guard' moment for me so far was a Sleep Token song I did last week. 9 minutes into the song they rocked me with a huge breakdown from out of no where lol
Band-Maid latest release is 2 weeks old with 700K views! Band-Maid with The Warning "SHOW THEM" I don't really have a favorite but I listen to "MANNERS " almost everyday. Love it ❤
Welcome home master, 🕊️💜 Po! If you like guitar solos BAND-MAID has you covered. Check out "Hate?" Official live video for a bass & guitar masterpiece. Thanks Roger 🍻 🕊️💜
Look over the lyrics, you'll find that they're pretty cool. In this case, it's about being in your head after somebody used you, and needing to break out of a cage of self-isolation that one can create as a result. Saiki counts down to the escape, which musically is the guitar solo. Brilliant bit of writing in terms of the combination of lyrics and music going together. Fun reaction, CR, glad you liked our Maids, and I hope you become a Madiac like the rest of us here. I hope you react to more Band-Maid soon! Subbed!
Their maid look has evolved over the years, Miku the band founder (rhythm guitar) is the only one with the obvious maid outfit now, if you check out anything from the last year or so you will see. Check out From Now On for a long guitar solo, it's an instrumental so basically a 4 minute solo.
What are they like now....Well if you watch "Hate?" Live. (With close Captions on) You will be gobsmacked and no doubt probably come out with the phrase "I wasn't expecting that" Or at some time probably during the middle bit "Hell yeah that was awesome" I guarantee it😏
I will be checking out more soon! I work a ton of hours at my job or else I'd have already do e a 2nd video for sure. All of the Band-Maid fans are super welcoming
Welcome to the BandMaid experience. The greatest proper rock and roll band of the 21st century. Here's some opinions and facts: •Bass solos are more likely to happen than not •Guitar solos are shorter, far shorter than you would like them to be •Unless you are superhuman, you will not/ can not be able to pick up everything they're doing to make that song great on the first listen. •Genre? Genres?? We don' need no stinkin" genre! •11 yrs with the same line up. Think about that. •More hooks, riffs and motifs in many songs than most bands have on an album. Check it out. No hyperbole. •Use of puns, wordplay using homophones between Japanese and English are not the exception. They are typical of Kobato's lyrics. •Despite the fact that their LIVE videos are superior to the official studio MV"s the latter are excellent. Funny, graphic, innovative and stunningly beautiful works of art describe what you get with BandMaid's official MV's. •As close to the Beatles in terms of unique persona of the members as any group since the Monkees. MISA is quiet and drinks. Akane is happy and eats, Miku is klutzy and CUTE, Kanami is an airhead who crushes on Saiki and Saiki was the Ice Queen. But the Ice Queen has thoroughly thawed. See Yokohama's Endless Story! Their image is carefully crafted or spontaneous or both. •Many songs have catch phrases or singalong sections to engage the audience. Many songs are in English and Japanese. Most songs are full of joy as well. •They're having a ball. They enjoy performing. They enjoy the fans. They enjoy each other. •Make no mistake, this is not a regular band.
I would do "Hate?" official live video from Yokohama arena 2023 to see how they've progressed before you do any released this year as 1 is for an anime, 2 are collabs and 1 is a live of a new song that hasn't been released yet.
