me too! I played in a top 40's band back in my 20's (2000-2008), touring the country and making decent and consistent money (which if you are a musician, you know how hard it is to make decent AND consistent income. Anyway, Inspired by that original theme song I wrote and arranged an opening track for our shows. I was super proud of that catchy tune, but I have Conan's band to thank for the inspiration. Ah, the Max Weinberg days...

CONAN's show needs to jump to FOX and directly compete with Colbert, Kimmel, and Fallon on broadcast TV. Being limited to Cable's TBS has been pushing Conan's show further to the wayside.

Fox wanted Conan for years, dating back to 2004. Fox making a play for Conan was the reason NBC promised him The Tonight Show so as he wouldn't have left. Now, as we all know, that didn't work out but Fox still wanted him before TBS picked him up but the Fox stations didn't want to lose the syndication money that would air at 11pm.

While I don't watch Conan nearly as much as I used to in those early days, I always loved how the band wasn't just an accessory to Conan, but was frequently part of the monologue and in skits.
I'll miss you guys. Keep on rocking.

None of this would've happened if Leno had retired with some grace. Conan and his staff have been dealt a lousy hand time and again.
Still, over two decades of steady employment as a musician is impressive. They're all talented and with their credentials can get into teaching and touring easily.

I was lucky enough to sit in the audience of a recording of Conan a few years ago. Before Conan comes out, the band starts playing Move on Up by Curtis Mayfield. LaBamba is walking around the studio as he's playing the trombone, then he hands his trombone to some random person in the audience and tells her to start playing while he sings the lyrics. Haha. They are so entertaining and amazing musicians. During the commercial breaks, of course the audience doesn't actually see any ads. We just got to hear the band play a song. Conan just kinda walked around the band as they played and I could tell that he really admired Jimmy Vivino's skill on the guitar.

Long live the Basic Cable Band. Everyone may mention LA Bamba, but who can forget Mark "Loveman" Pender. Worm and his no shoes drum playing. Healy and his receding hairline. Merrit's bug eye expressions and the talented Vivino boys. And of course who could forget the original leader Max Weinberg. Thanks boys for 25 years of great music and terrible acting. Huzzah!!!

The band was a big part of the show and will be missed. I grew up watching Conan from the start. When i had to stop playing paino because of nerve damage in my left hand, i switched to Trombone because my music teacher said you didnt need a left hand to play trombone (mostly). It was a big change and an emotionally difficult one to switch instruments like that and i was nervous about the future prospects of being a trombone player, but seeing LaBamba do great things with it really gave me the hope i needed to stick with it and continue music, and i did for 8 years thanks to that and enjoyed it. I did stop playing to goto art school but it was a choice i made on my own and dont regret. But i will always appreciate what the band did for me and the show. See you guys in the year 3000.
