  • The North Downs Way from Otford to Cuxton was definitely one of my favorite days on the trail so far although I think the weather and time of year had a lot to do with that. Once again we were in the trees a lot and after Wrotham there weren't as many views as we had enjoyed before. Trosley Country Park was definitely a highlight, as was the atmospheric mist of the morning followed by delicate sunshine in the afternoon

    Thanks for doing his video. really enjoyed it. 20 odd years ago I lived at the foot of the North Downs in a place called Kemsing near Oxford and used to regularly walk my Border Collie along the NDW. Brought back many lovely memories. Great photography, great commentary. thanks and safe travels

    Hi CJ, I managed to complete the NDW yesterday, having started last week In Farnham. Took me 9 days in total, thoroughly enjoyed it & the glorious weather was a real bonus. Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed watching your videos, & every night on the walk I would re-watch the relevant video pertaining to the next days' walk & found them to be most beneficial; so many thanks for posting such entertaining - & useful - videos. Hope you manage to get back sometime soon to finish the walk, it's tough in places - especially Detling - Hollingbourne, & the waymarking in places can best be described as "sketchy", but as long as you've got a map/app to hand, & a sturdy pair of shoes you'll be fine. Very best wishes to you, Cody & Kye.

      Hi David. Glad you enjoyed the NDW...I'm looking forward to finishing it this year. Great to hear the videos were beneficial and thanks for the heads-up about the waymarking in certain places.

    Thank you for your videos CJ. I am doing over from Canada and trying to decide between the NDW and The Glyndwr Way and your videos may have convinced me to do the NDW.

      Having looked at the route for the Glyndwr's Way and would definitely choose that over the NDW

    Very inspiring CJ - will have to explore this section some more as have only walked a few sections as part of events. One memorable one is Harvel Hash Runners organise a beautiful 5 mile loop every year with beer at the end and lovely food ... that starts on a village green and heads off around beautiful Trosley country park 👏

    • @WilderhopeAdventures
      @WilderhopeAdventures  3 года назад +1

      Definitely do...and that Harvel Hash loop sounds ideal...beer, walking and good food...the best three things right there

    Motorcycles - the curse of the NDW and Pilgrims Way. 4x4s also cause a lot of damage too on ‘green lanes’, which end up more brown after a heavy weekend.

      @WilderhopeAdventures  2 года назад +1

      Yeah. I don't mind green lanes, as I like to use them myself (only to find a quiet place to camp if it's dry) but they should have seasons so they don't get torn up in winter

    Hmm...thought I commented on this earlier but it’s gone.....apparently. Anyway, another cracking little video, but one I watched with an indefinable sense of unease until around the eight and a half minute mark, when your, by now very familiar, baseball cap made its entrance! And....where you lead, others follow - have you seen Andrew Cotter’s video of him taking his two dogs, Olive and Mabel camping and hiking? Worth a watch - short, looks marvellous in the hills and funny too!

    • @WilderhopeAdventures
      @WilderhopeAdventures  3 года назад

      What was the cause of the unease? Was it because I was in a different hat?
      I haven't seen Andrew's videos but will have a look for him

      @ianpark1805 3 года назад

      @@WilderhopeAdventures I was watching it thinking ‘there’s something different’. Then when you were suddenly wearing your baseball cap it was a case of ‘Ohhhhh....that’s what was different!” Search ‘Olive and Mabel - The Long Walk’. Fun!

    To Wilderhope Adventures, I think your videos are brilliant and you have explored several trails and paths in the UK. I am currently walking the North Downs Way at the moment and have currently walked on the NDW between Farnham and Otford in stages and I have also walked on a stage between Wrotham and Rochester. Are you thinking about completing the North Downs Way?
    Also, here are some suggestions of other trails to hike on
    The Wealdway runs between Gravesend in Kent and finishes on Beachy Head, near Eastbourne in East Sussex
    The London Loop follows the Greater London boundary and is a circular trail around London
    The Capital ring runs around inner London and is around 78 miles long
    The Thames Path is a national trail and runs for 180 miles from the Thames Source in Gloucestershire and follows the River Thames all the way to the Thames Barrier in east London

      Hi Jonathan. Thanks for your suggestions and glad you are enjoying my videos. I am planning to complete the NDW over the Jubilee weekend as it gives me the perfect amount of time to do it over.
      The Wealdway has been on my list since I came across it doing the Vanguard Way...slight, friendly rivalry between the two organizations that support each trail.
      I'd be interested in hiking some of the Thames Path but probably not beyond the point it meanders into the London area. I doubt I will do the London Loop or Capital Ring any time soon...there are other trails I'd much rather do.
      Hope you are enjoying the NDW though...it's a trail I really like and I'm looking forward to finally completing it

    Those carving were quite a find Mysterious prettyand creepy places with no explanations, I spose you just have to make up your own stories to go along with them. So sad to see fly tipped stuff, some people just don't care.

      @WilderhopeAdventures  3 года назад

      I know, right :-) I need to come up with some better stories about the things I find and share them...make people smile :-)
      Very sad about the fly-tipped stuff...makes me so mad.
