Mike, Thank you for all your videos, they really do help us DIY's. I am rebuilding a suffix H LT77 at the moment. Mine has the double spring and ball detents for the gear selector you mentioned that are in the R380 box. I suspect that the rear plate (end plate) that makes up the case is the same for the suffix G and H so there should be a second spring and ball pushing outwards on the selector shaft, thus balancing the loading. Putting the inner ball and spring in makes reassembly of the box more difficult so I am guessing that they are left out when the boxes are rebuilt.
Fitting the double detent is easy as you fit the inner with a dummy shaft, when you slide on the cover the dummy shaft pops out - see the rebuild on this box or an R380 same thing
You might want to try a homemade penetrating fluid that was talk to me to loosen up those rusted up dowels. Take equal parts of acetone and automatic transmission fluid and mix them together and put them in either a metal or a chemical proof container and squirt a little bit on there. I guarantee you it’ll loosen up almost anything. But be careful acetone. It’s a Lotta different kinds of plastics. I’m sure it’ll also help on that buggered up screw you can’t get out easily.

Hi Mike, is it possible to change the input shaft by lifting the front casing off the gears ? the box is in good condition I just need to change the input shaft, VM to TDI = different shafts, thanks in advance.
You have to match the input to the layshaft - so the new input must have the same number of teeth and width, as the old one Also, you may have to shim up the mainshaft again There are a huge number of permutations in tooth numbers Not as simple as it seems..
The square ones bite into the bolt to be extracted but the left hand taper type seem to wedge themselves tighter into the bolt, thus making it harder to get out - we must have the same 'been there done, that tee shirt!'

Luv these strip down videos. Great work Mike 👍👍👍
Like the intro before the legaleaze.
Doesn't look too bad inside. Good work around even although you had the correct tools. Might have to get a hold of those easy out bits.

Can you sir, please explain what type of engine Carnet with gearbox
Or do 12j,200tdi, and 300tdi engines have the same gearbox 😢
12J would have the LT77, 200Tdi would have the LT77S and the 300Tdi would have the R380
I have a set of those square easy outs. I have had more success with them than the other sort. Not 100% success but better than the 20% I used to get!

Hi Mr. Can I order defender 110 parts
Sorry, I no longer retail parts
What type of gearbox does 300tdi come with
R380
