    there is NOTHING wrong w/wanting to have long hair !! as Black women , we have been told for centuries that our hair can’t grow past a certain length . we’ve been told that short hair makes us look ugly & masculine . but nowadays , when we want our hair to be long , people call us vain & “obsessed” . we have a right to our preference of long hair .

    • @HazelGoddesss
      @HazelGoddesss  Год назад +28

      Exactly lol. Seems you can’t have a preference with anything these days.

    • @blkboentinquiry3553

      I feel as though a lot of the people who say that are having issues with length retention, and because of that, they say we shouldn't be "obsessed with length". 🙄

    • @samanthacarrington487
      @samanthacarrington487 Год назад +3

      Some women hair don't grow pass certain length,years they been nurturing and doing everything . For some it is what it is 😢

    • @Boxxxxxxxxx
      @Boxxxxxxxxx Год назад

      Many black women are obsessed with length precisely because on average they are the race of women with the shortest TERMINAL length. We do not have the same capacity as some races do. Islanders (think Chuuk or Marshal Islands) have some of the longest terminal length capacities of any women in the world that I have seen. Black women seek to have this but genetically will never be possible for the masses of black women. End of story. And I say this as a black woman (Ethiopian) that has had long hair all my life.
      What's worse, are the hair and beauty influencers who lead these women to believe (most who have much shorter terminal lengths genetically) that it's possible for them. Just as we shouldn't always rely on influencers who do not have a similar texture than us, we should not be indulging ourselves in fantasies of possible hair length that actually is not possible. Influencers will market and use click-bait titles of butt length hair to seduce viewers. It's deluding. The majority of black 'long" hair influencers have the shortest hair (even when it's "long") in comparison to many white/latino hair influencers.
      It is what it is.

    • @Boxxxxxxxxx
      @Boxxxxxxxxx Год назад

      It's called terminal length. Determined by genetics. In white people, this can be seen when their ends start to thin out. It usually indicates that they have reached the terminal length. And growing hair past that is POSSIBLE but not ideal, UNLESS you can hide it. There are very few cases where people discover something internally they are deficient in and grow beyond what they thought their hair could grow. I'm in the camp that believes we have more capacity in our length than we think, but there's a clear line between that and thinking we can grow hair as long as possible.
      I've seen one influencer who attempted it and stopped trying to reach for length, because it showed in her straight her. For black women, this is easier to hide with our textured hair just like split ends are easier to hide. There's a trend of delusional expectations with length retention in the black community. Even though most of them talk about it, their hair is STILL not that long in comparison to influencers of other races. Extreme and healthy length is possible for a percentage of black women, but not most.
      Cheb and rice water will never collectively increase the terminal length for black women. All this hair growth stuff is mainly useless.

    Listen, don't pay attention to what other people say about length. If length is essential to you then it's important. I hope one day we get to the place where we respect others' choices for their hair. I see our ladies out here wear their hair at all lengths from buzzed to thigh and they are rocking it all.💜

    I think you should totally straighten your hair! Just make sure to get a good heat protectant and to not restraighten while it's already straight without using that heat protectant again. I straighten my hair two or three times a year and my curls haven't had any issues. I also use the Curlsmith Bonding Repair when I am ready to wash my hair after straightening (you use Olaplex, so that would probably be just as good)!

    • @marleyhill34
      @marleyhill34 Год назад +2

      my hair doesn't retain length...well not without being unhealthy. It's a combination of my genetics, medication, incorrect care in the past and current aging. So I chose health over length. Everyone has different hair types. Some strong and some fragile but all beautiful. Just like everyone has different skin types. Some have terrible acne, hyper pigmentation and roscea and some like me can use the cheapest products and have no problems.

    I would like to recommend that you watch some professional stylish silk press hair before you decide to straighten your own. In watching you in past videos doing your daughter and your hair straighting it seemed as though you used to many producers at once and those with oil. This may have caused the heat damage you experienced in the past. I am just pondering. Thanks for listening.
