- Holland Bamboo Grove is located in Lacovia, St. Elizabeth - the bread basket of Jamaica. The avenue is
approximately 4 kilometres long and portrays a beautifully arched and shaded arrangement of bamboos on both
sides of the roadway. Holland bamboo (also known as Bamboo Avenue) is a heritage site and one of Jamaica’s
tourist attractions, which is said to be the most photographed place in the island. It was planted by the owners of
Holland Estate and dates back to the mid-1700s.
The purpose of the grove was to provide shade for plantation slaves and owners of the estate en route to the town of
Lacovia, which alternated with Black River as the capital of St. Elizabeth during the 18th century. The grove was part
of the sugar estate that was owned by John Gladstone (1764 - 1851), merchant, politician and father of William
Gladstone (1809 - 1898), a British Prime Minister. Today, the avenue is protected under the Public Gardens
Regulation Act and managed by the Public Gardens Division of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.
The species of Bamboo grown in Holland Bamboo Avenue is Bambusa vulgaris, which originated in India and is the
largest species that was introduced in Jamaica. The strands of bamboo growing alongside the road form a green,
feathery tunnel that flutters with the slightest breeze. It was once much denser, but at present the sun peeps through
at the top of the arch and at the sides in places where hurricane damages have thinned the strands.
The Bambusa vulgaris is an open clump type bamboo species with lemon yellow culms, green stripes and dark green
leaves. It can grow up to a height of 12 m. Its flowers are spikelets which are panicles or panicled spikes with six
stamens. It flowers infrequently, from November to April (monocarpic), flowering

O my God that my country sweet sweet Jamaica I try to gone home every year but could not go because of the virus missed that so much even to hung out with friends and families and eat my organic foods my ackee and salt fish and rice and peas make from scratch and just as how my mother used to cook it
this virus mess up everything where it come from.

They need to put barriers around the bamboo trees, and should also spruced up the length of the bamboo walk. Man, I bought some very red peanuts there a number of years ago. Boy, I was in heaven for a long time. I also stopped further west where I got my shrimps. My mouth burned me for days, but it was worth it. I moved on to Border where I got my fried fish and bammy, then on to Ridge Pen for my common, green skin and Robin mangoes. I was in heaven for quite a while. Thanks Fire for the very therapeutic video, love it.

Am sorry the record don't say longest curve it says longest corner and words can have similar meaning but is the context in which it is been use and in this context curve is out of the quest.....meaning of curve and meaning of corner let you know curve don't belong here
And speaking of this corner i know it quite well as a boy i use to break away from school 3 o clock recess and will deal with that corner so often use to cross the river into the cane piece and on to the main ground over Holland estate and a lot of history about that whole area stretching across Ipswich ys falls and within the whole vicinity

Good job nice scenery for me personally lots of memories i live in middle quarters and also go to middle quarters school i use to ride donkey over to Holland estate when everything over there was full operational part of the trip was to get molasses......was also a place of fun especially on holidays games and shows and more selling of was also going on and am talking more than 50 years......i also use to ride donkey over to y s falls those days was pure bushes or green forestry lots of food along the river mainly yam bread fruit bananas plantains dachine and more

Holland primary is also on the right where u said the best rotties are sold, I went there.Also where u said Holland village, the right turn actually takes u to Holland village.
And right where u said the roast peanut lady was,that left turn which has a gate and guard house takes u to Holland estate.

Right after u exist the bamboo that area is known as Shaws district, and like I said earlier the right turn take u to Middlesex district.Shaws goes up to the gas station, and right where u announced that was middle quarters is actually New Holland district.Right past the peanut porridge place.
Middle Quarters starts where the sign says welcome to Middle Quarters.

Its 4 Km Bamboo Avenue.
The bamboos has been there for many many years, at least one hundred years plus, i think its naturally formed, bambos used to overlap from one side of theroad to the other and much thicker in days gone bye, cars using the road late as the 1950's had to use their headlights. The patchy areas in between the bamboos was also covered with bamboos
