After I Block VLOM with the VLOM PLUG..Do I plug the VLOM connector back into the VLOM Plate or leave it unplug .. Lifter release easily your tool … I already have it tuned with LT1Swap..
I thought same, yet remembered the oil pump for those models is a higher volume pump than non afm motors and apparently is able to keep up with the bleed down from when the afm is activated and also with the vlom modification because the afm is now taken out of the equation. My interpretation anyhow. Great question!
Love all the video's, thanks again! But once i free up the valve, do i have to do the vlom mod still? How long would no mod last? Or how am i to be sure that was the cause of it collapsing to begin with?
The VLOM isn't why it collapsed. Lack of oil pressure during activation is why it collapses. This can be caused from several things but if you want all that message me on my website or search the forum. If you don't do the VLOM mod and tune out of AFM the already internally damaged AFM side of the lifter will collapse the first time AFM activates. So it could fail on first start or shortly after you start driving it but it wont take long. Everything I do has a purpose.
Great videos!!! Thanks for your previous help! I did the VLOM mod and cut the gaskets around the oil towers and removed the solenoids. Also blocked the oil pressure sensor port (cut a wedge out of the passageway from the pressure sensor to the galley that feeds the solenoids, and brazed a solid wedge back in its place while leaving pressure access to the oil pressure sensor). Also used your source to turn off the AFM. My new question is with everything done will this trip a CEL? California smog stations don't use the sniffer on vehicles newer than 2000, they just run a scan at the OBDII port. If the is light on, smog fail...Thanks...

What doesn't make sense, if I did a complete lifter delete, and I'm plugging the holes in the block, why can't I use the original VLOM and block the oil passage from the oil pressure sensor going to the solenoids?

@@CrazedPerformanceRepair thanks for your time and videos. Where can I get a tune? Is it widely available as I'm in Alberta Canada. I was thinking about getting a range. Would you recommend this?
My main lifter release video at 27:17 shows the VLOM mod. I don't have a specific video because it is solely for the purpose of disabling the AFM system after a failure. It requires a tune and will render AFM system completely unusable.
Great Video! I have a couple questions though that I'm sure have been answered but I 've read but cant find them. I purchased the lifter release trick and the plug. No luck getting it to release unfortunately. 1. If I do the Vlom Mod including the block off, what term would I use when asking my tuner to delete the system? AFM delete? should it be pretty self explanatory for a knowledgeable tuner? 2. Is it anything to do with E85 capability? never run it either way, just curious. thanks for the knowledge. Hopefully putting her back together tomorrow.
First off, thanks for the videos! I ordered the VLOM mod parts from you yesterday, because of a collapsed #1 intake lifter. Replaced lifter an still didn't do the trick. Start engine and lifter would work for 3 to 4 revols and stop working. Narrowed down to the VLOM solenoids so decided to try your Mod. Question is this..... If the Mod fixes my issue< will this Mod cause any engine lights? What do I do with the plug that ran the solenoids, do I plug it back in? Thanks again for the helpful vids!!!
The lifter could also be spun, you can determine this by looking at the side of the lifter. To see the side of the lifter you need to pull the VLOM and clean out the oil tower of the suspected lifter with cleaner and shop air. Once cleaned you can look down the oil tower and if you see a hole in the lifter it is not spun. If however you see only shiny metal or a flat surface then the lifter has spun due to a bad plastic lifter guide. When this happens you will need to replace the camshaft and all lifters. This would be a good time to do a full AFM/DOD delete where you remove all AFM components and replace them with non AFM components. Did you old lifter have any damage on the roller if so your lifter was spun.

When doing the Vlom mod to plug the passage, is it necessary to do anything to the computer to avoid a cel? My current issue is number 7 is bypassing oil and activating to both intake and exhaust Do essentially it’s a dead cylinder. I’m assuming that’s needing the vlom replaced… can I get by just plugging the passages in the vlom?
You would need a tune as well. I recommend lt1swap.com for this. However, keep in mind that your situation is extremely unlikely. If you haven't, you should verify that both rockers stop moving. You might only have one that's not moving and in that case it's most likely a spun lifter. This happens when the plastic guide tray fails. If it doesn't happen to be a spun lifter your camshaft will also be wiped out. In that case a full delete would be the best option.
@@CrazedPerformanceRepair yea they said it could be the vvt actuator or the magnet but I replaced those already but first cylinder 3 collapsed , I replaced it then cylinder 4shortly after that.
@@omararaujo5971 I don't think the lifters or vlom are related. I think you most likely have a bad second cam bearing. I talk about this issue in my cam bearing video.
If it still has afm. Some 2019 have DFM and it doesn't work on them. There is also a good chance that you just have a bent pushrod because of interference from the factory.
I just had the lifters replaced on my 2010 Suburban, with a 5.3 Vortec. I replaced all lifters, rods, and rocker arms. And, the engine still knocks, with all new parts. The shop couldn't figure out why the lifters still seemed to be stuck. Any recommendations? If I do the VLOM mod and reflash my computer, will that help?
Did it do it immediately after the repair? Was it multiple lifters? Once a lifter fails the system should be shut off even when replacing lifters. The lifters don't fail on their own. They fail from lack of oil pressure during activation.
@@CrazedPerformanceRepair I appreciate the reply sir ..... Reason I was asking is because I read in another comment that doing the VLOM mod with DOD lifters would cause them to collapse is that correct?
@@Bigolmutumbo Not sure where you heard that but it is completely incorrect. The entire point of my VLOM mod is for the lifter release trick I came up with for the AFM/DOD lifters. Did you actually watch the above video or just start commenting without watching it?

After I do all these things can I leave solenoids plugged in the Tahoe harness or do I unplug the solenoids? I looked over your videos and don't see if it mattered or not?
Around how many kilometers or miles in your case would you say this mod would be needed? Or should it be done because of a certain behavior with the engine?
Good day my friends, in the last year my 2015 GMC SIerra Denali has been repaired 3 times because the liffter of cylinder 7 has been damaged, this has happened three times after accelerating sharply, you could recommend me what to do, the only thing What we have done is change the lifter and obviously this will happen again. I've really spent a lot of money on this.
Hello, first of all thanks a million again for this hack! I'm back a year and a half after releasing a stuck lifter and doing the VLOM mod (07 Tahoe 5.3). Lately I've been dealing with low oil pressure warnings plus a heavy lifter tick only at startup that has grown louder, and I've tried a few fixes... Replaced a bad o ring on pickup tube and replaced oil pump. Tested oil pressure at filter to rule out pressure relief valve in oil pan. It looks like my last resort is worn bearings. Anyway I'm about to get a entirely new engine and my question is can I just plug the passage port on the new engine without removing the VLOM gaskets possibly voiding the warranty, or will the tower passages in the plate eventually clog over time and put pressure back on the lifters?
On a new engine just having system turned off is all that's needed. However, I wouldn't put a new engine in yet. the tick at start up is likely a broken manifold bolt, I have a video on the topic. As for the oil pressure, it's likely the second camshaft bearing causing this. I'm sure you guessed it, I also have a video on replacing camshaft bearings and I talk about it's relationship to oil pressure in it. When doing the bearings it would be a perfect time to do an actual AFM delete. Where you replace camshaft, lifters, valley cover and trays with all non AFM components. Sure you won't have a warranty but you will have saved probably $2500.
@@CrazedPerformanceRepair OK I just watched both videos and I must say you're the man! However with no shop, very little time now and pushing 350k miles on a former rental vehicle, I think I'll go ahead and retire her. Spend that extra for piece of mind on things. But I will feel around my exhaust bolts just out of curiosity. Thank you so much for your help!
what am thinking , cant you just disable the solenoid in VLOM somehow and leave everything else untouched? like just cut the negative wire or unplug the solenoids so when the car tries to kick down to v4 it cant . I don't think lifters would have any reason to go bad. this way oil would go around everything and lifters would just act like single stage rods . ps thanks for answering another question I had in another video. I still haven't decided what I am going to do with my suburban . I have misfire on cylinder 6 and very rough idle. am driving as is for now with what I can only describe as v7 . definitely less power but oh well for now. love your 5 or 6 vids on this matter
Continue to drive it and risk further damage. Unplugging it just makes computer through codes due to not seeing what it expects. If the VLOM is bad just disabling or unplugging it won't be enough. Tune is needed and vlom mod recommended.
i have 6.2 Gmc Denali 2007 deleted DOD , i am having low oil pressure when idling & i hear lifters ticking when cold start , at cold the pressure goes up to 40psi , when comes to hot it drops between 10 to 20 psi , i changed camshaft bearing and crank bearing , new oil pump & o'ring with new piston rings and every thing is sealed up tight , i am not sure about the valley cover o'ring since i am not the person who rebuild it , do u think the o'rings in the valley cover if not installed or become flat or weak have something to do the oil pressure drop ? i hope you can help me .
So with a full delete camshaft and all, some people will put the standard volume pump in place of the high volume pump. When this is done the oil pressure will be much lower. Do you know if you have high or standard volume pump?
That being the case, I don't think the o-rings would be enough to drop the pressure that far. I would start to be concerned about bearing clearances. Did the crank need machining? where the rods checked for being out of round? How were bearing clearances checked?
@@CrazedPerformanceRepair Every thing is checked OK , today i reinstalled new valley cover came with o rings & gasket & bolt , the old one o rings were shrunk flat to metal , now the pressure is stable at 20 to 25 stable at idle hot engine , from your experience the pressure should be how much hot at idle ? i didn't had a warning message in cluster to shut the engine off nor now also . i appreciate your help have a good day

Received my VLOM mod kit with tool today. Found your videos after suffering a collapsed lifter on cylinder 4 last week. Really wasn't hoping to spend the time and money on a full AFM DOD delete where I would use the opportunity to spend big bucks on performance heads and cam. If I had know about his crappy system being such a flaw I would have disabled it long ago. Light taps, heavy taps, big hammer, small hammer, slows taps, fast taps... After about 30 minutes I was about to give up hope and then POP out came the pushrod just like your videos. I sent you a message from the website, but figured I'd ask here. I did the second part of the lifter release to tap it back down a bit, but mine didn't move. Is it possible it just freed itself up to the correct position and didn't overshoot? I bolted the rocker back on and turned the crank over several times. The valve opens and closes fine now with proper tension on the rocker. Computer went off to LT1SWAP this morning before the tools came so I'll leave the truck off until it comes back. Just want to make sure I'm good before buttoning it all back up. FYI, the instructions showed the oil passage block off as in the videos here, but not the gasket mods. I did those because of the videos, of course, but others may not depending on which video they find your site from.
It doesn't always overshoot, you are most likely golden. If you can, bolt the vlom on and use the starter relay to crank it over until the rocker moves about 5 times. Then you are set.

Where do you stand on the issue of using an engine flush when changing oil? Some say it can cause debris to clog those small screens.
After I Block VLOM with the VLOM PLUG..Do I plug the VLOM connector back into the VLOM Plate or leave it unplug .. Lifter release easily your tool … I already have it tuned with LT1Swap..
I plug it in to keep wires from corroding.
Did the 09 Silverado 1500 5.3 have the lifter problems also. One got stuck and damaged my cam at 140k.
Yes they did. Get the system turned off in the tune to prevent it happening again.
Doesn’t cutting the gaskets cause low oil pressure in the end?
So do you remove the solenoids ? Or leave them unplugged ?
After doing the vlom plug and tune.
Or just cut the gaskets off?
Hey Billy did you ever get a reply from anybody what did you find out elsewhere? Thanks, Doug
Sorry didn’t see this but no never did. I just had it turned off . Sent my ecu to his guy working great so far been about a year now
Great videos!!!
Yes it will trip the light unless you have AFM shut off in the tune. Lt1swap.com is a great source for this.
@@CrazedPerformanceRepair Thanks for your quick reply. I did send out my computer to LT1 Swap.com. Already got the computer back. Still need to install. So I should be ok there? Everything else done...Thanks!
As always great video. Thanks for all the information 👍
Odd question here - Can a bad dod lifter or valley plate gasket cause low oil pressure? (New pump and oring is installed )
Oil pressure is still 10psi when hot .
Considering putting regular lifters and a regular cam this time around when I redo the pump ? Is it worth a shot
I have a Chevy 2012 1500. Should I cut out the inside round gaskets?
Only if you still have AFM components and you have it electronically disabled in the tune. All the answers are in this video.
I need to do a full delete. Can I simply use the stock VLOM, cut gasket, your machined plug, and just use plugs for the oil towers?
If you plug the oil towers there's no need for VLOM mod with full mechanical delete.
can i use my
Bully Dog tuner instead to turn off afm on the pcm or do i have to send the pcm in after the delete
You should be able to, most tuner boxes have the delete option.
What doesn't make sense, if I did a complete lifter delete, and I'm plugging the holes in the block, why can't I use the original VLOM and block the oil passage from the oil pressure sensor going to the solenoids?
With the full DOD delete, will i be able to pass California emissions test?
When doing the dod delete on the 2006 ls4 using a different camshaft and replacing all the lifters back to the normal style lifters and you drill and tap the tower's and block them off with plugs can you still use the original vlom cover with the solenoids removed from it thank you
Yes but why drill? There is a plug kit available that you just pound in with a hammer.
@@CrazedPerformanceRepair thank you I wasn't aware of there was a drive in kit all most all videos show how to drill and tap them or tig them shut my tig skills are next to nothing lol

If you have non AFM valley cover on AFM lifters I'm surprised you can drive it at all without all 8 AFM lifters collapsing.
I ve already done a DOd afm delete, I have plugged the holes in the valley but I am still using the old vlom, will I still loose oil pressure
Only if your VLOM leaks because it's bad.
No!! The holes in the valley supply the VLOM with oil, if it’s plugged, no oil can reach the VLOM and therefore oil pressure will remain the same as is was intended
I just installed the AFMDOD delete but now I'm getting codes for the deactivation solenoid. Do I have to get the ECU tuned. And can this be the cause of the car stalling when trying to go into reverse or forward?
Definitely need a tune. I recommend LT1swap.com for this service. Feel free to message me on my website if you need more information. I don't always see RUclips.
Do u need to plug in the VLOM connector after a dod delete
Can't after a delete if you remove the VLOM completely. So no, after a full delete you don't.
So i plan to get the disabler get it tuned afterwards and no more problems …
Seems like waisted money I would just get the tune done. I recommend lt1swap.com for this at only $50.
I have a question Can I do a “AFM DELETE” without replacing my DOD stock lifters ?
You can turn it off in the tune without parts. An actual full AFM delete requires cam, lifters, tray, etc.
Can you place a 4.8 valley cover in the vlom’s place with the dod/afm lifters still in place. If not can new lifter non dod lifters and push rods be placed in the dod lifters spot and run the original stock cam?
Will the computer throw a code with the vlom disconnected even if the dod is shut off with a tune?
No, no, and no. I explained it all in the video. I assume by a 4.8 valley cover you meant non AFM valley cover. I explained what each one does and why.
Help..I removed valley pan on 2007 Tahoe and I removed the gasket pieces with a chisel but I forgot to order the plug that u have to block oil hole…is that why my truck started smoking badly…please reply..😐
I replied on another message from you. It's best to message me on my website for better replies.
There are other videos where guys are plugging off the oil passage towers .
This may be for the full DOD delete with the DOD lifters replaced with non DOD lifters !
I'm sure this is were your getting the repeated questions from !
Yes, folks don't comprehend the difference between AFM and not when it comes to how it works.
Hi I have a 2007 avalanche 6.0 non flex fuel my question is, do I need to tune the computer if I only released the collapse lifter and block the oil with the sleeve and break the rings on the vlom thanks do I still need to send the computer
Yes
Is a vlom modification necessary if you go ahead and get a afm/ dod delete tune after releasing the lifter but before cranking it for the first time? Would that still protect from it collapsing again?
It's need on the direct injection engines. The older pre 2014 can get away without it I suppose but you better test the VLOM for leaks first.
so just to be clear i can use this plug method and gasket removal with tune and never have to worry about my DOD system kicking back on instead of doing the full delete? i do not currently have any lifter issues yet and i also currently use the range AFM de-activator but would like to not have something plugged into my rig at all times or spend a fuck load on a full DOD delete lolol

Oil pressure drops after warm up to 0 ?????? Please help cold oil pressure is 70 psi after 15 min 0psi please help.???
If I use the Vlom plug, remove the solenoids, and unplug the system. Will I still need to cut the gaskets? I'm getting AFM tuned out of my ecu this coming week.
No, but at that point you may as well snip out entire center section.

Long story short: I have the plug inserted. Can I take the VLOM plate out and "remove" the plug? I assume some sort of fixturing the plate and carefully drill pressing it out, or based on your helpful experience whats the better way to go? Thank you so much.
Why do you want to remove the plug? It can just be pressed out from the other side.
I’m confused. I’m in the middle of doing a DOD delete on my 17 suburban (5.3 L83) and my kit uses the plugs for the towers. So are you saying I still need to do this vlom mod? For reference it’s a DI motor with the other style so I’ve got the Allen plug.
no, VLOM mod isn't needed for a full mechanical delete.
I got sent dod plugs, should i use them with the non vlom cover ? Or just not use the plugs

Can you use the non DOD VLOM to replace teh DOD VLOM if you don't do a complete non DOD change over, i.e. no cam /lifter change?

Do you have a video that shows specifically HOW to modify to VLOM? Also, will the VVT still work after the VLOM Mod?
I installed the volm do I have to get my computer reset it's running rich
@@CrazedPerformanceRepair lifter is right orientation. Blew air in top of tower on cyl of concern and blew air somewhat easily. Other 7 no air passage with air blower
Ask yourself, If it blew different than all the others, wouldn't that be indication of that lifter being in the incorrect position?
Will the lifter release tool work if the rocker is not moving?
If the rocker arm is floppy loose while the camshaft is not at the top of the cam lobe. Then it has a good chance of working.
@@CrazedPerformanceRepair Hey brother I appreciate your videos I am a fellow tech just learning about this trick from you, I ordered your kit from your website and my customer has this issue on cylinder 6 on a 2013 Sierra, I had the valve cover off for inspection and saw the intake valve does not move when cranked... But the rocker is not floppy, it is still spring loaded... Will your method not work in this scenario?
@@keithlivingston1221 no, that's most likely a spun lifter or one with bad locks. When it's not cranking can you rock it buy hand to compress the lifter?
@@CrazedPerformanceRepair Hey thanks for replying you are awesome!
When it's not cranking I have to pry on it to get it to rock, it feels spring loaded and rests firmly on the valve stem...

I'm seeing a similar problem. Pops when it goes from 8 to 4 cylinder mode. Ever sort out your problem?
If i just cut the gaskets do i need to tune
Yes, I recommend lt1swap.com for this. I also wouldn't just cut the gaskets. If your VLOM leaks it will cause oil pressure issues.
Do you have do tune right away after blocking off the vlom? Or can I drive it to a tuner?
It can usually be driven to a tuner.
Can a bad VLOM cause low oil pressure?
The screen filter in the VLOM can. The VLOM its self could but is incredibly unlikely and if it did would likely cause other issues.

Yes, but the procedure is a little bit different. I have a newer video explaining it.
Does this work on a 2019 Silverado? Getting mixed findings.
If it still has afm. Some 2019 have DFM and it doesn't work on them. There is also a good chance that you just have a bent pushrod because of interference from the factory.
I should also note I have an updated video for the newer AFM engines.
Can the lifter be ticking without throwing a code?
Mine ticked bad and never had a code
Do I have to do the VLOM modification after releasing a lifter or is it optional?
You have to at bare minimum turn the system off in the tune. I highly recommend doing the VLOM mod though.
@@CrazedPerformanceRepair I appreciate the reply sir ..... Reason I was asking is because I read in another comment that doing the VLOM mod with DOD lifters would cause them to collapse is that correct?

Good day my friends, in the last year my 2015 GMC SIerra Denali has been repaired 3 times because the liffter of cylinder 7 has been damaged, this has happened three times after accelerating sharply, you could recommend me what to do, the only thing What we have done is change the lifter and obviously this will happen again. I've really spent a lot of money on this.
Turn off the dod system in the computer. A regular repair will continue to fail without turning off the dod.
Can you just do the tune and nothing else to disable?
If all you want is it disabled then yes.
what am thinking , cant you just disable the solenoid in VLOM somehow and leave everything else untouched? like just cut the negative wire or unplug the solenoids so when the car tries to kick down to v4 it cant .
