This is a solid reminder of how 2020 is easily the worst year for swap/flea/rummage/garage sale in my 43 years.
Colin, I just saw this older video of yours. WOW! What fun to see all those tools! I wanna be there too!
I'm from Germany and really enjoyed this tour. I loved to See all the things. Keep up posting such explorations.
Thank you for the walk Colin, marvellous thinks we can find in those open markets
That's the way a fle market should be The ones I go to have rows and rows of toys and nick nacks and a bunch of junk if their was one close wear I live I would be their as a seller and mostly a buyer south west PA Thanks for sharing Buddy.
Charlie Wood I go to a few of those too ... you really have to look for anything decent, well decent for me anyway, but this show is an exception, let's how it doesn't degrade into a junk sale in years to come
The music was a perfect fit for the video. It looks like you enjoyed yourself, I enjoyed watching.
Ed Waggoner Sr. Thanks Ed ... appreciate your feedback
Enjoyed the video. I also enjoy flea markets and garage sales. You just never know.
Great vid. I've got old Stanley number 6 sitting on my desk I bought just yesterday, have started on the restoration already. I find it astounding that some of these old planes date from the late 1800s.
smoovesaint I didn't know they went back that far ... thanks for note, good to know
I live in Wales UK and my wife and I would like a trip to the US, she fancies Times Square and the big shops but that market would suit me and any more like it.
Thanks for the look-see tool swap. I like your road trips. I would go there and drop $$ no problem. The Stanley planes are always a nice find.
Trees2Pens Yes, always good to mooch around a used sale
Thanks for sharing, Colin. Enjoyed it.
Stone and Sons Workshop It was fun ... thanks for commenting
Great idea for a video Colin. I can only wish to attend a swap meet such as that and pick up some second hand tools. You had the Router plane in your hands and I was yelling " buy it Colin and I will send you the money ". LOL I guess you didn't hear me.
Derek
GiddyUp994 Ha ha me too! I would have grabbed that No. 71 right away. Looked like new, and had all the parts.
GiddyUp994 Ah ... that's what that ringing sound was in my ear ...
The fun at flea market and swap meet - you never know what you will find! I was surprised you did not take the whole set of Marples. I would of ask a set price vs an piece - he might of taken it - he sounded disappointed you didn't take them all! Where was that meet? I like the #3 Stanley have my self and it was a flee market find!
Boy I wish I had been there. I saw a couple of things that I've been looking for. I wish it wasn't Corona year!
old school i love it !
Thank You!

That was fun looking at the stuff.
Gerald Lipchik It was fun, some gems some ... well, not so gems and day of fun looking
Wish my local flea market had anything resembling that flea market!
Scott Wade I also have a few around that are not like that one ... that is a one day per year meet and I have been lucky to attend it for the last 9 years ... it gets better every year but only a few hours long.
THIS WAS AWESOME.
+Soren Cornell glad you enjoyed Soren, thanks

I look forward to the renovation videos. This was a great insight into what "tool fairs" are like abroad. Thanks Colin. N.
Neil George One coming soon ... stand by :)
Wish they had something like this around me. 2-3 hour drive though
Whether you are buying used tools or new tools it all boils down to quality control. If the maker doesn’t do it you are forced to.
Do you remember who started the 100,000 mile warranty? Chrysler/Dodge decided that it would be cheaper to remove as many of the quality inspections and controls from the automotive assembly as they possibly could. The thought was if they offered a 100,000 mile warranty, make note of the word warranty, they could cut their cost, and boost their lagging sales. How could that work?
How often do you take your car to the dealership? In my case it is absolutely as little as possible. Why?
It takes a long time to get an appointment.
When you arrive the waiting room is full.
The mechanic always finds something wrong that isn’t covered.
They want to keep your car.
You never escape without some ridiculous bill.
If you bought the car with the idea that if they offer a warranty thinking it means they stand behind the car you fell for the con. They don’t expect you to bother with the hassle. Ta Da and they laid off 10% of their workforce, or transferred them to China.
The same thing goes with tools. Have you ever bought a tool with a lifetime guarantee? Did you read the guarantee? Just who’s lifetime is it anyway. It’s the life of the tool. Not yours. When it breaks or wears out, “Well now it’s dead and the lifetime is over.”
The only time you have any control is when you are shopping for the thing. Is it good enough to do what you need? Will it last long enough to do the task. Remember a wrench can do more than one job.
If it doesn’t fit those two criteria move on to the next one. If you really want to mess with their heads point out that the reason you didn’t buy their thing is, it wasn’t good enough. Most of the time the floor walker will just walk away. But water dripping on a stone will eventually create Mammoth Cave. You just might make a difference. That is if there are enough drips complaining. 😊
God i wish they had anything like that here in finalnd. Buying used tools online is always such a gamble and you never find anything old and very rarely anything really good. Online you don't know what you get until it arrives.
Thanks, Thanks, Thanks Infinity
Marcelo Bustos Thank you Marcelo
My kind of place!
Rick Williams lol ... yup, me too :)
Thanks Colin. Some of that stuff looked like it was at giveaway prices. JimE
Jim E there were a lot of pretty good deals at this meet, had to hold myself back
If I could find a place that this within a 2 hour drive from home I'd be there like a shot!
loloaqici82qb4ipp This show is a bit unique, I do not know of another and it is only 1 day, once a year
Man this place is treasure bounty for real men's 🗿🍷
Was thar ene anvils?⚒️⚒️🔥

DesantUA1 Thanks for commenting ..
Where do you find swap meets like that?
Google for large car meets and tool collectors meets.
Vare good
escondidinho lav Thanks for your comments ...
Hey Colin. Do you have a link or some inforation on where and when this swap meet occurs?
LMHBurds About all I can tell you is it is usually late April or May. I have been lucky to stumble across a listing for it each year ... this year I happened to spot an ad for it in the Used Cowichan site, but it's a one day per year event so, easy to miss ... keep your eyes peeled for a listing
It looks to me that the two planes were no.3 but you didn't say what the second plane was And my question is that why is that other no.3 so much bigger than the other one. I'm talking about the yellow stanley thought all no.3's were the same size in with.
mggcomputers I am not an expert on Stanley Planes but from what I own the #4 is a bit wider than the #3 and yes, I believe your right that all #3 are the same width and length, at least as far as I am aware.
Colin we had something like that hear in Stirling but all gone now you lucky people .anyway Colin could you find me somewhere I America that I can get hold of four inch wheels in diameter thanks Colin .
Peter Haughton is the 4 x 1" wheels or 4" wheels Peter ... maybe you can email at woodworkweb with more details
There 4 inch in diameter col
Peter Haughton OK, let me look around for you Peter ...
EN QUE LUGAR ES
I found a # 3 Stanley plane in a tool box that belonged to my deceased brother just about two weeks ago...
eddiecarlcalhoun wow ... very cool find, good timing for you
Still need a number 5...
eddiecarlcalhoun They are around ... I'm sure you will come across one, harder to find at yard sales, only because of limited amount of tools at them, better of a swap meets or flea markets if any around your area.
Some coming this summer also maybe a barn sale....Thanks!!!!
From the UK. Where is the location? The backdrop is fantastic. Regards.
I think it's Duncan, on Vancouver Island
LMHBurds Looks like a match! plus.google.com/117834278910767440256/posts?hl=en

Paul St George lol ... that's right Paul
the "split-bottom" is just broken.
irvirgil Yup, the throat there is busted out on either side.
irvirgil That's what I thought too, I wish I had taken a better look, it seemed to he he was trying to show me some modification or something because the breaks looked quite similar ... will have to see if I can track him down, you've got me really wondering now, but you are probably correct
where are these places for the flea markets. Which city do you live to see those places.
People who sale tools like this here in los angeles sell these tools like if they are selling gold way over priced
