Just received a new refractometer and have tried to calibrate it but there is no blue on the screen at all. Followed instructions to the letter. Only have a white screen, any suggestions?
No. Once you have it properly calibrated it keeps that setting. It wouldn't hurt to recheckit a year or two down the road. If it gets banged or dropped then you'll need to re-check it or replace it with another working one that has proper calculations.
So mine didn't come w fluid. Can I set it at zero w bottled water? I'm testing for sea monkeys. I used instant ocean to make one gallon w bottled water as directed. Let sit 24 hrs. It measured at 25. I'm losing my mind. I lowered salinity for sea monkeys brand, not brine shrimp, to 15 And they're dying.
So 35 ppt on the right side is what the refractometer solution should be calibrated at. That is actually also 1.025 on the left side for salinity correct?
yes you can do that but it may be high or low a point but if you are using your regular method for mixing salt you should be able to estimate for the time being.
I really don't understand why these manufacturers don't make that little pin that's in the plastic at a stainless steel stainless steel will not corrode do you use the cheapest metal and then you got to buy a new refractometer
No, you do not have to recalibrate normally unless the screw setting is moved. But it is good to check every month or so with calibration fluid to just make sure it hasn't changed
Mine never came with calibration fluid FML!
Maybe it has a different reading because you forgot to dry the calibration fluid off the plastic cover flap, removing only half the liquid.
So if I use tap water what is it supposed to read at ?

Great video, better than the useless paper instructions i didn't understood. 👍
i calibrated mine with my tap water same i use for brewing and the refractometer showed 1.025 while my hydromeyer showed 1.009
Good video keep on doing a fine job.
can we use tap water to calibrate refretomeyet
In a pinch but your better using di water if you have any
My blue line appears slanted, what is wrong? :(

Yes go by the numbers on the right. The 35 ppt doesn't match the 1.025 exactly on my refractometer.
hello , am using this to messure the temp range in my glycol what else i can use it for ? thanks
+Nato each refractometer is different by manufacturer. Salinity refractometers only measure specific gravity and ppm.
you need to wipe both surfaces even the little flap
can this refractometer use for gem stones?
+BL BL this one is designed for saltwater specific gravity. There are many kinds of refractometer for different uses.
where do you get the [ calibration fueled /water?]
We sell it but you can also get it from BRS
Can I get refractrometer with 0.01 brix reading
My refractometer works completely different to this but look exactly the same so best read the instructions lol
My solution was left uncapped... would setting it to 0 with distilled, and checking for 35ppt of my tank water okay till i get more

Refract tometer haha too good.

what is the function of screw in the middle of refractometer
It calibrates the level. You adjust that to match your calibration fluid.
Great question, glad you responded because I was lost.
I'll take ur old one, lol :-)
👍 Are you coming to visit the new store. I'll put it aside for you.
