      @joseramirez2310 well then you know it does not take 5 minutes to fill holes and redrill them because you have to let the glue and/or filler dry first before you can sand it and then drill. And thanks but I'll pass on anything you have to offer...

    There's an old saying that states "You can fix ANYTHING with enough time and money" and I think it comes into play in your situation. If you were committed to getting the Jackson neck to fit on the flamed green body it would involve gluing additional wood to the body, plugging the neck holes with wooden dowels, re-drilling, re-finishing, cutting, dremeling, sanding... it would be very involved - but 100% possible. Maybe just order a cheap $50 Temu neck and build a Metal Dude signature model?

  • @AnonymousDuelist
    @AnonymousDuelist Месяц назад +1

    That first neck is 100% firewood but the body with the Jackson neck should be a relatively simple (not quick or cheap) fix for a luthier. Screw holes are filled and repositioned and the bridge can be repositioned accordingly too if it needs it. But it might have to be repainted after all the new holes.

  • @nychold
    @nychold Месяц назад +9

    It's definitely fixable, just fill the screw holes in the neck and the two back holes into the pocket, then drill two new neck screw holes in the right places. Aggravating, to be sure, but absolutely fixable.

I normally love green guitars, but this one reminds me of a college advanced airbrush class on faux finishes. My marble & granites looked killer, but my first attempt at dark woodgrain looked like a stool sample! After learning a different technique, I was finally pleased with my efforts. Let it dry for two days and then try to reset the bridge every time I’ve done this it ends up right where it was. Modding inexpensive guitars and building kits is a fun and challenging hobby. If you get enough experience at it, the rabbit hole becomes building your own custom guitars from scratch, since it can sometimes be easier to start from a body blank to get what you want instead of undoing a bunch of existing work that is close but not close enough.

  • @RuthlessMojo
    @RuthlessMojo Месяц назад +1

    This is definitely fixable. You could just shorten the fretboard a little so it will not be in the incorrect position. You have a fixed bridge so if you need to adjust that you can. Screw holes can be easily fixed with a small wooden skewer. The chip in the finish can also be fixed with some stain and a top coat in that area. Experiment on a spare piece of wood to colour match it before you apply it. Personally I don’t mind guitars that have flaws. It adds to the character of the guitar and separates your guitar from every other guitar out there. Look at EVH’s Frankenstein strat or Jack White’s Kay. Both iconic guitars with their own personality.

    I wouldn’t call you an idiot for buying AliExpress guitars, but the thing that struck me was that early on you made the comment that you based the build off a guitar you already own that is perfect for you. So… what are you actually chasing and why? I’ve accumulated too many guitars myself over my 38 years of playing, so who am I to talk, but… I realized maybe 10 years ago that I really only ever play 3 of the 9 guitars I pared down to - my 2010 Ibanez Prestige S5470, my 2003 Carvin custom DC131T, and my Martin D15 acoustic. That’s still the case now. All the others are essentially wall decorations that I should get rid of when the market is more agreeable. But that realization effectively cured GAS… I stopped looking for the next unfulfilling guitar after figuring out I already had what was perfect for me.

    I have no advice as to what to do about the guitar's problems, but about yours? Well, I'd say that the best thing to do is to find somewhere to sit that axe -- somewhere out of your way where you can leave it until you've cooled off from it enough to work on it again. You can solve your problem with that guitar with another neck or even the same neck with some judicious modifications. Don't throw in the towel permanently yet; just give it time for the frustration to wear off and for it to seem worthwhile to get that axe up and running. If that time never comes, you're no worse off than you are right now.

    Take the Jackson neck & glue a block of maple underneath the open fret board tape off top & sides of fret board after glue sets & is solid. Glue & fill original screw holes with glue & bamboo skewers .. or if that's not big enough, drill out old screw holes with size accomodating hard wood dowels you can get from either your local hardware/lumber store & wood glue in back of neck. Then work down glued block to fit into body pocket by hand reassuring not to go too far for a tight fit. The glue in/on the neck should hold it tight in place. Or if you really have a problem with "GUITAR RAGE" (as I'm all too familiar with also) scrap it & 'keep' your sanity. But think of how sweet the guitar would be all completed (besides, you can go to auto stores & find "auto touch up paint that can be applied if you can find a couple little small bottles of green, black & white to test & mix the right two combos of colors to get a close 'matching' color because where the paint is chipped it's not that visible. Or you can say you're beginning to start 'Relic-ing' it? LOL 😂😂😂 Greg Leonard a big fan of yours Richard!!! 👍👍👍 Never say "DIE"!!

    That's a cool looking guitar for such a price, I love that finish. I hate having to pull the plug on broken guitars. Esp nice looking ones that had potential. Few years ago I pulled a "first act" from a trashcan down the street from my house. It was in two pieces and hardware was mostly unsalvageable. But I took it home, rebuilt it and when I realized how well it was going I decided to take a risk and scallop the fretboard since I always wanted one like that. This too turned out really well so I topped it off with a vintage 1950s "DeArmond Gold Foil single" I had been saving for a worthy project and the end result is now one of my favorite axes. Now, resurrecting the dead can be labor intensive and might not even work, so I can fully 100% understand not wanting to put so much work into such a cheap guitar. But ya never know what you may wind up with in the end. I was certainly NOT expecting it to turn out nearly perfect and 1000x better than it ever was as a brand new guitar. It was a lot of work and made quite a dent in my spare parts stash. THAT time was worth it, but next time may not be. It's all part of the fun right? Haha. Anyways in case anyone actually read this and is curious, here is me playing that First Act right after it was finished.
