Yes. Jeff Buckley performing the album, "Sketches For My Sweetheart The Drunk"- live (nearly all of it live anyway). I always wanted this to exist (but it didn't- so I stitched it together). I delicately EQ'd and mastered all of this (from the source material (listed below)) and put it together in order, with some related extras. A gift for JB fans- in particular for those who truly love "Sketches" as it's own album (despite the exquisite but ever-looming shadow of Grace), treasure it, know it like the back of their hands. Here's a solid window into Jeff's process going in to the Verlaine sessions. Testing this material out live. Demo-ing at home.
A few notes: The track, "You & I" is clearly not the same song as the track found on "Sketches" (I don't see why there would be an alternate, early or live version of that track anywhere), but- in lieu of it's absence- a wonderfully, totally different "You & I". The version on "Sketches" DOES in fact share the same refrain (it's subtle but occurs twice in the track), so he was clearly kicking that particular idea around (in various manifestations) for some time. I was shocked to discover a flushed out, developed version of the song that Jeff was only just beginning to point to on the posthumous 2016 album, "You & I". I don't think very many people have heard just where he eventually took that track, but it didn't die with the Abbado sessions. Aside from it's immense beauty, again, it shares the same name (and refrain) as the original 10th track on "Sketches", so on that technicality alone I don't feel too bad about including it in order to bring this project to life.
Included are some early demos ("Opened Once", "Witches' Rave") and a remix of "Opened Once" by Marco Rigamonti that was too lovely to ignore. Also included are live versions of many of the tracks found on the 2nd disc for Sketches. And how about the full-band version of "I Know We Could Be So Happy (If We Wanted To Be)"? Pretty rad.
Made with love. -rw
P.S. Obviously I don't own any of this material (but bottom line- this curation should exist, and here it all is).

I saw Jeff play at a club in Boston in 1995 and signed up for his fan club. After he died I received a letter and a copy of one of his guitar pics in the mail from his mother thanking all his fans for their support. So sweet 🥲
Saw Jeff in 1995 at roskilde..you kids have no idea what you lost...period.
Can't decide if more pretentious or condescending..too close to call...full stop.

Right? I'm gonna just take his word for it and let it fly for the sake of it being Jeff-related.
@@mariamvrck BRB, gotta go flogging, where’s the self punishment emoji with extra shame?
I have a pretty good idea of what we missed out on and I'm ridiculously depressed about it.
Holy shit. I didn’t know this existed. It feels like I’ve glimpsed into a parallel universe where he lived.
That sums up the feeling pretty darn well 😊
The real portal is the knitting factory recordings
Jesus fucking Christ, pure mastery.
In between pleasantly buzzed, and mildly drunk, I'm cleaning my desperate kitchen, scrubbing an over soaked iron skillet with baking soda and table salt, scraping dried egg yolk off my autistic son's breakfast plate,
and plunging wine glasses with Bacardi residue into an unbearably hot sink of bubbly, grapefruit scented water.
Torn between crying for what is, and for what will never be.
In limbo with everything I feel. But this...this pulls me into another dimension.
Another space and place, that only soul readers can gather.
Very few of us are here.
And ever so graciously, Jeff is here too.
Thank you for these thoughts, words Jase.❤ Jeff is indeed here.
as I sit on the porcelain toilet ,
Dried with aged feces that line the bowl,
I ponder the comment section. Half baked and half alive.
Somewhere in between, really.
A man I am, so I am.
Poetry pottery poetry-
I choose, over the solemn dullness that is talking normally.
I defy being normal like the rest.
Oh internet, my one and only.
My dark decay.
Dude, the amount of work you must've poured into mastering these tracks. I can't imagine. Thanks a bunch. This is a "what could've been" for us JB fans.
Thank you so, so much for this kind and thoughtful comment. It was definitely a process and one of those miraculous things where it all came together in the best possible way. With love for those songs and endless curiosity for where he was headed....❤
It’s the best performance of his I’ve listened to since live in Chicago about 10 years ago…. Absolutely love it…

Truly. I never thought I'd hear these songs tramp out of thar negativland he had seemingly been dwelling in!
Two early 3rd track but I hope most of the album has been so well treated by the light! : ) elated
I found out Jeff 2 years ago, and he completely changed my life, his voice is pure heaven! I wish so much he'd be still alive, he would have done other amazing songs
Great artist & musician!
But then I've always liked Tim's music aswell!
Sketches arent always complete. Sketches have their own beauty. Unpopular opnion but i think jeff knew he would die. Not neccesarily saying it was suicide, although it may have been. But one way or the other he knew he would live a fleeting life and leave young, hence the name of the album sketches for my sweetheart. They were mere sketches because they were never completed. It is the most beautiful thing. What an artist. What an enigma. What a man.
this is so true :(
The name of the album would have been "My sweetheart the drunk".
It was released with the name "Sketches for my sweetheart the drunk" one year after his death.
The choice was not his to name it "Sketches". That was a decision made by Sony and likely Jeff's mother too. I don't think he knew he would die young at all. He was just about to return back to the city to go flesh out all these ideas with the rest of the band and hit the studio! He probably would have finished the album with great speed. Probably a year max to flesh out the songs and then record them (that was fast for Jeff though, he was a perfectionist).
Stay with me under these waves tonight
There's no easy answer
None to blame or forgive
Two cripples dancing
To the end we live
I'm not with you not of you
Not with you, not of you
You are soft and young to me
I am the ghost who comes and goes
And I hope I'll catch you
In the throws of one last look at the wonder
One last look at the wonder
O, God, I love you
And all the past we once knew
Some other love becomes you
Whatever else we come to
I know we could be so happy, baby
If we wanted to be
You are soft and young to me
I am the ghost who comes and goes
I'm hoping that I'll catch you in the throws
Of one last look at joy that we've become
But there's no easy answer, none to blame or forgive
We were two cripples dancing
To the bitter end we live
I'm not with you, but of you
I'm not with you but of you
O, God, I loved you
And all the past we once knew
Some other love becomes you
Whatever else it comes to
I know we could be so happy, baby
If we wanted to be
We had a birthplace in common
We had separate beds and lives
I'll just sit here and glow
Break out the oldest pictures
Hand your ruined letters out to dry
We had a birthplace in common
And separate beds and lives
And lives, and lives
I know that we could be so happy, baby
If we wanted to be
I know that we could be so happy, baby
Yeah oh.
Please, can someone help me write the lyrics on live of this song? English not my native language
It is indeed the perfect photo. It's two Jeff Buckleys: One is a warrior, and the other one is living at everlasting peace.
The Knitting Factory tracks are wonderful and especially in light of JB knowing Lou Reed and other notables were in the audience. Despite the pressure, which Jeff often even thrived from, he nailed it with extra bits to make it all the more unique and divine.
You & I is just mesmerizing. It gives me chills
Τhis is OXYGEN!!!! Christmas time. Thank you a thousand times. I have no words. Amazing, inspirational, unique!!! Straight from Jeff's spirit.
EXACTLY....FROM JEFF SPIRIT
It's been a long time since I ever was your star
Convinced that I am gone because of what you are
But you know it was me
You know it was me
I had a way to tell you that you're in me now
I imagine we're in the pattern of our mind
I pretend that you trust me
I pretend that you trust me
Go on without you
Out of the past we once knew
Some other love becomes you
Whatever else it comes to
I know we could be so happy baby
If we wanted to be
I don't want to lose you
But I can't ask that you stay
We all know that it means a torture anyway
But I think in time you can trust me
All of the dislocation that possessed me and you
Has always had a hold
The war I fight because I love you
Because I loved you
So go on without you
Out of the past we once knew
Some other love becomes you
Whatever else it comes to
I know we could be so happy baby
If we wanted to be
If we wanted
If we wanted
If we wanted
You can be happy
You could grow and learn to forgive
The mistakes of tender souls and everything
They're only living life with one home, one face
Will I have another fairy tale
That I'm crushed in for me and you
Not with you but of you
Not with you but of you
Go on without you
Out of the past we once knew
Some other love becomes you
Whatever else it comes to
I know we could be so happy baby
If we wanted to be
If we wanted
I know we could be so happy baby
Jeff always seemed to be even better live, than he was on the record. You can really hear his growth as a songwriter and performer. Makes me sad for what might have been. Thanks so much for sharing this. ❤️
Si en vivo era mucho mejor ahi se veia que era un gran cantante y guitarrista
I Know We Could Be So Happy Baby (If We Wanted to Be) is absolutely insane. Jeff Buckley is once in a lifetime type of song writer, an entirely unique and original individual. Extremely creative and original songwriting. Just amazing.
jeff is like a phantom, he is so distantly away from us before i was even alive, its like he never really existed, like a myth. thats how it feels like to me when i hear his voice and see his face
" I have no fear of this machine?! " Vote!
Hearing that "opened once" instrumental just verifies how gorgeous and superb that track was/is. What a gem.
He is missed so deeply
Opened once 😢❤

You are so welcome!! Better late than never, right? (You're not really late though....). :)

"You and I" is phenomenal
Some songs make such an impact on you that they stay with you for life. They're time capsules to who we were in another time and another place. Jeff's sketches seemed to make sense of a time in life that seemed to make no sense at all. It broke my heart to know I'd never be able to hear fully produced versions of these songs but over the years I think I made so many versions of them in my mind that I was able to be content. What a devastatingly incredible talent he was.
He changed my whole perspective on music
Mate, you deserve a bloody fucking award, but you're going to have to settle with a heartfelt as fuck thank you! This is an absolute masterpiece, and just wonderful and you're an absolute legend.
Ha! I really, really appreciate this note Vanessa, very sweet. You are most welcome :)
the guitar tones on this version of You & I are stunning.
Everybody Here Wants You would’ve been such a huge cross over hit for Jeff. I imagine it would’ve been on RnB radio like WBLS here in NYC or Kiss FM 💋
It was released as a CD single and CD EP when Sketches came out in 1998 but it was not "a huge cross over hit".
Now i feel like a kid, I didn't know that existed. All my love for his music is very alive
There's a version of Vancouver with lyrics live in case you guys don't know
Oml why didn't he record this version of You and I? Its easily one of his most beautiful songs...
I 1000% agree with you. It just kills. Hits a nerve. It's so lovely :)
holy holy! This is a treasure to be found!
Haven't even listened yet but I feel compelled to say "THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!!"...Jeff's music can be sadly prophetic...But it is equally beautiful, uplifting, and inspiring...It's the kind of music that makes this world tolerable...If we share it, not only do we play a small part in enriching people's lives, but we keep a part of Jeff alive...If not his body or soul, then perhaps his spirit...His essence.
And thank you Michael for your great comment.
I believe it's prophetic because he knew he was going to die. His lyrics have a lot of messages against the nwo movement, positive messages when music nowadays gets popular because it is promoting subject matter that leads humanity further in darkness. Thank God for Jeff Buckley's light. I believe he knew exactly what he was doing.
He’s so close, yet so far. 🔮🌞❤️✨
Mass Epic proportions this is astonishing as Im reading the book Dream Brother about both Jeff and his Father Tim.. Stumbled onto this after listening to Jeff sing his fathers songs live at St. Anns... I had the double cd but this demos are already burning into my head..someone already put but so fucking pure oxygen.. loving every second
You are so welcome. Sometimes I listen through and feel like it's a JB-themed ride at Disneyland....
