Hey Dieter, thank you for visiting this topic again. I live most of the year on a smaller lake here in NC that is full of blues and the occasional flathead and have had really good luck with chicken breast and cherry koolaid. Sometimes ill add some garlic which seems to work well. I would love to see a side by side with koolaid, jello, and regular chicken. Thanks for all you do man! Jake in NC
For the sticky, we carry an old washcloth wet, with a squirt of dish soap worked into it, another wet washcloth (for rinse), and a small hand towel for drying. All in separate gallon ziplocs. Keeps the sticky stuff off of everything. Just a quick wash and rinse after baiting up. Easy peasy.
Just used the strawberry jello chicken the other night with my 12 yr old son. He caught a nice channel and a 34" American eel both on the the jello chicken. We also caught a smaller channel as well on same bait. We were fishing smaller river here in Lancaster county PA
I have tested the strawberry jello chicken against, menhaden, mullet, bluegill, and herring. It has won each time I tested. It wasn’t really a scientific test (I didn’t record anything), but it was duly noted that the chicken was outproducing the other baits hands down.
Recent catfish enthusiast and sub here… have you tried any chicken (or other protein) with a dip bait coat? Seems cost prohibitive, but thought you might save me the effort. Cheers!
I've used the jello in the past and like you said "Messy". I strictly use the plain chicken now. A friend I fish with every now and again just shakes his head when I bring the chicken on board 😂
Definitely going to try this. I'm 3 for 3 on good size catfish so far using baits I've found at the lake so I know there out here. Got 2 on crawfish and one on a small bait fish I found and that 3rd one got away. Snapped my 20 lb mono after a huge drag ripping fight.
Mr. Melhorn, interesting theory about the collagen, so perhaps you might experiment with using Knox straight gelatin on the chicken, so no dye, no sugar, no flavoring? That way you're just adding plain gelatin.
Great videos. Maybe in the future throw in some locater screen info of what it is showing. Friday night I was putting out a trot line with chicken and caught one about 4 lbs before I got the line out, 25 hooks. Looking to get some fish for the 4th, Saturday morning nearly all the chicken was still there, not one fish. Something to do with the moon or something, Tombigee river, Columbus, MS.
I have been adding vanilla extract with my jello and the last week I went out and they wouldn't even touch the shad. All 14 blues were on the jello chicken I made that morning.
Someone may have already asked this but how do you clean your hands when using chicken Dieter? I know everyone takes snacks fishing so I was just wondering. Thank you Dieter for making such great videos sir.
Have you tried jello and garlic powder flavored chicken breast? That is the way Luke from Catfish and Carp says he makes it. I am wondering if adding the garlic powder to the jello chicken will make it better or will it work about the same.
Just my personal experience but recently I have tried chicken (thumb size pieces with 4/0 circle hook) mixed with a pack of strawberry jello, pack of cherry Kool aid, couple tablespoons of minced garlic, and garlic powder to no avail. Fished ponds, reservoirs, and lakes. Have more luck fishing nightcrawlers. Best store bought bait I use that works is chicken liver. Has to be something with the blood flavor in my opinion. What I did notice is the garlic powder when added to hot dogs does toughen them up and tend to stay on hook better. Although I did catch a few with the same mix with cheap hot dogs I still had more activity with the chicken livers
Hey I’m a female but love to fish. I need to get a little refresher course from you guys. My husband and I love to fish off Kure pier in NC. First, what is the best reel/rod- ready to buy me a good one. What test line should I use? Is circle hooks better fishing off the pier or the regular J hooks? Ok this is a dumb question: will the jello and chicken check anything- I see your fishing in lakes so wasn’t sure about the ocean. Any tips you guys can give this female, I’m listening and appreciate it so much. Thanks in advance.
Hey female!! Thanks for checking out the channel! Tell that husband he’s a smart man for marrying a woman who watches this channel! 😜😜🤣😆 Questions; 1). 20-30# test is all you need. 2). Circle hooks are best anywhere. 3). Chicken is better in freshwater than saltwater.
If you fold the zip loc part over then just slide a piece of chicken up to almost the top of the bag, then you can just reach down with the hook and put it on without ever touching the chicken.
Just seen you catch a big one on a catfish pro combo in one of your older videos. I got two of those same combos in my collection, and my wife goes "well I guess we know which of your rods are going out with you today!" I was planning on taking my two new bass pro king kat rods out but plans have just changed lol
You probably don’t need heavier gear. Your line failed because it was frayed or damaged. Most reels only have 12-15 pounds of drag, and you’re obviously not running your drag maxed out, so it virtually impossible for it to break unless it damaged….
@@DieterMelhorn interesting. I bet it was damaged. I've been having issues with that line but before I got that fish I had actually fully re spooled with fresh line so I'm guessing that entire thing was bad.
@@DieterMelhorn I've never got a fish that big before so this was a crazy exciting experience. Biggest catfish I've got before this was about 7 lbs and that was huge.
Ive used it last couple of years and have spent the past believing in stink bait with my dad and grandpa. I have some interesting recipes like quanah bait and beef blood bait my dad used on the river that worked well for eater cats. But when i got him using live and cut bait the fish got bigger lol. I mainly bank fish and struggle this year. I usually have no problems catching them i think the crazy amount of rain has me down some lol
I don’t get it. I don’t catch anything on chicken… and I catch a lot of fish. They just don’t seem to like it here. We used to have mussel beds but we don’t anymore.
Thats one of the down sides of using chicken liver you the blood all over the reel and handle go to use it again and your gear stinks to high heaven 😂 so i use chicken now
It's 100% guaranteed to die if I keep it. It may live if I release it. Nothing goes to waste in the wild....nothing, so even if it dies there are myriad creatures that will feed on it to survive
This bait works miracles. I have slayed the blues lately on this and last week, I even caught a striped bass on it. Crazy stuff

Thanks Dieter for video, I soaked some chicken in blended chicken liver juice for a couple days ,and it worked Great.

I’m glad you like fishing 🎣 as much as i do! Keep up the good videos and be careful out there brother

That ande is some good line and I didn't realize how big a half roll was.

I like that term "BACK ALIVE"
Our mayflies in WV are really big this year also.

Get a little bottle and fill with 93% isopropyl alcohol and have a wet hand towel
Box of cheap gloves.. helps keep your rod handles clean too… worth the small amount of money
YOU KNOW YOU A REAL FISHERMAN WHEN YOU HAVE A LOT OF FISHING POLES 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Don't see a difference from regular chicken breasts and chicken with all the fixings
Great video some nice fish
I've been running chicken and hot dogs on drifts for 3 weeks now. Not one on chicken. Everything has been hot dog. I'm gonna keep at it.

😂 I have to out fish my husband and I watch to learn some secret tips lol. Thank you!
What reels do you use? That is an interesting concept about the strawberry jello. Will have to try this one day.
I’m using Ancient Mariner reels in this video….
If you fold the zip loc part over then just slide a piece of chicken up to almost the top of the bag, then you can just reach down with the hook and put it on without ever touching the chicken.
Great tip!!
I grab a handful of the disposable gloves at the gas station since the pandemic hit. They work perfect and free lol
How well does jello chicken work on rivers?
I have use it but just to much of a mess for me, I get jello on everything, enjoy your videos thanks

Nice fish
What size hooks do you use?
Gelatin is high protein with 18 different amino acids.
I need you on a podcast….you seem smart….😆😆🤣🤣😆😆
@@DieterMelhorn Search for 1993 patent: US1585164.pdf.
Chicken, two packs of cherry cool aid ,garlic, dab of cooking oil.
Never had Kool aid work. Melts too easy, jello congeals and lasts longer.
Where im at jello chicken doesnt work great on wild or stocked catfish. Just plain ol' chicken or shrimp works especially best.
I’ve always believed that plain chicken will perform just as good…..
Holy cow 16 lbs 😐 that looks about the size of the second one I got. No wonder that 3rd one snapped my line. I need to upgrade my gear.

Which place sir
What do you use that “sign” for that you take off your line?
It’s called a planer board…I have videos about them…
I use cherry koolaid. Does it matter probably not at all
I'm trying plain chicken breast today. No luck so far
😊🎉😂😂❤❤
It works

Why not another direct comparison strawberry jello chicken vs plain chicken? Simple and very entertaining…if not informative 🤔
I may do that now that the spawn is wrapping up….

Man if you throte hook a nice fish like that you should take it home and eat it..... What a waste! Thats some BS!
