I was raised Chinese-American, fully westernized, and my wife is from the Midwest (central US). Even we had cultural differences. For the most part we each embraced the other's culture, especially FOOD 😋

I have similar experience as you, except my wife is from California. Cultural differences between my wife and I were rarely an issue through our 43-year marriage, but they did crop up from time to time as something different to deal with. Not problematic unless you make it so, and it helps when both families don't have hang ups with mix marriages.

@@jiayiandjulieinchina Very cool! Thanks for info! Cooking and food vlogs are very popular among influencers and could add to increase viewers, sponsorship endorsement deals, and subscribers to monetize channel. I think viewers would enjoy seeing how Danish Scandinavian dishes can add to various Asian dishes. Eventually come up with new recipes and sell books and attend food events, festivals, etc. Keep up the great vlogs!

I grew up in the southern US and she grew up in China before coming to the US for graduate school. We addressed many of the issues you brought up very early in the relationship. I was nervous when we went to China to meet her family. They welcomed me with open arms from day 1.

An amazingly comprehensive video for all couples. I love the extra examples you gave regarding intersectionality particularly in the "politics" section. Those are common and real scenarios in general but especially for Asian women. For someone who is not Asian, you're very well read and astute on the experiences/culture of identities outside of your own. Both of you are clearly quite intelligent and open minded. More people should be like you two. Much love!

Hello, Guys. I ran across your Channel because I LOVE China. I am an African-American Attorney and traveled to several locations within China and many times imagined myself living there, wondering what difficulties I might end up dealing with. But listening to your particular story is heartening. Maybe in all the videos I missed it, but what does Julie do for a living? Are her career possibilities there to pursue? Both people need to feel fulfilled in the country/culture they find themselves in.

Hey! We personally chose not to talk about our jobs online just for privacy reasons, but I can say career options for foreigners within China are somewhat limited, since you cannot take a job a native is better suited for (which is most), so you can't practice law here as a foreigner for example. Most foreigners work as teachers, models or in positions for foreign companies 😊

I wish you guys can manage it well, My advice is just to avoid any political issues and all the issues related to the politics, Put it in the ice bank. People from the east and west have different knowledge and point of view on many politics issues. We nearly can't solve it by ourselves. It's a issue more tricky than religion.

Another great video👍 On the religion part, it reminds me of my growing up years. I kind of became a Christian (not officially baptized) when I was a teenager due to influence of some foreigner (mostly American) friends. They came to China for both cultural exchange and missionary purposes. From them I had some friendship that I cherish the most in my life and after getting to know them more and more I decided to follow him too. We hangout and go to church/fellowships regularly for a while. But as I grew older and lost day-to-day/face-to-face contact with those Christian friends, I kind of grew out of it too. I lost the feeling of connection I once had. From my personal experience, I agree with your point that most likely the relationship between a super religious ppl and not so religious ppl won’t work out too well.

I know Nordic people can speak English well, actually people with Germanic language background speak good English in general, but Julie your English is exceptional, not only no foreign accent whatsoever, also the phrases you use, your choice of words are no different from native speakers from US or Canada (obviously you don't have any British accent). Did you live/study in the US or Canada?

@@lm-pw9ul Thanks for your message. For Germanic language I was referring to a type of language, German, English, Dutch and many Scandinavian languages are all subtypes of Germanic language, vs Latin (French, Spanish, Italian ....). Germanic language people can speak English well with no or light accents, compare to Latin languages background people all with very strong accents. Anyway Julie's English is almost US native level, and JiaY'si English is even more impressive for a guy is pretty much all local China grown.

@@BeatniKkersThis will always be the silliest argument to me. What even is a "serious Christian"? Do you celebrate holidays with a pegan origin like Valentine's day, mother's & father's day, easter, Halloween or Christmas? Must not be a proper Christian then. Do you wear mixed fabric? Get haircuts or shave? Believe men and women should be put to death when they cheat? Believe disabled people shouldn't be allowed to go to the alter of God? Do you believe we should stone those who curse at God? Do you keep the sabbath holy?
If you don't follow all the rules, who are you to decide who is a "serious Christian" or not? People like you make others distance themselves from the Lord, because you feel entitled to judge them. There are plenty of Christians who would say Jiayi and I shouldn't be together due to our ethnic backgrounds not matching. I don't agree with them, nor do I agree with you. Have a nice day.

China men are not as romantic as western men, but they love their families, care for their wives and take care of their children. The divorce rate in China is very low, and once you choose it, you will stay with it for life, so China men are ideal partners, and I believe your eyes are good. Twenty years ago, many women in China married abroad. After decades of development, China's national strength has been significantly improved, and life in China is more comfortable than that in foreign countries. Therefore, there are very few women in China who married abroad. Instead, many foreign daughters-in-law have been married to China. Life in China is very safe. There are no vagrants, thieves, drugs and guns, and LGBQ+. I wish you a happy life!

    • @jiayiandjulieinchina
      @jiayiandjulieinchina  8 месяцев назад +4

I think it's wrong to generalize too much when we talk about people. Jiayi is extremely romantic, and not all Western men are. Everyone is different, but I have heard that some say their Chinese partner won't say, "I love you." Luckily, I can't relate. Also, divorce in China is actually very high (we just talked about it on B), but there's nothing wrong with that. If you aren't happy, it's better to leave each other. Lastly, there's definitely LGBTQ+ here. From what I've seen it's a huge community and I think that's awesome. I embrace all the shapes and expressions we have humanity. It makes us beautiful as a society 😊

This is so funny considering one of my best friends in nonbinary and that I usually would assume that you interact with people based on their gender rather than their assigned sex at birth. Obviously, with this, I'm assuming you don't check people's genitalia when you first meet them 😅
However, let's be clear that the majority of the population in English would use the word gender in this type of conversation regardless of where they stand on the debate about gender vs sex, because the world sex is primarily used in a medical context 😊

You seemed all neutral talking about all these topics and issues until you slid your political view under your speech posing being against immigration and abortion is evil. Since you did, I personally oppose the immigration-friendly political stances, because of its relation to the crime rate, cultural colision and the expansion of the lower class. It seems like you forgot that your thought is an opinion, not the ultimate truth. So it’s better to be more careful about this if you don’t wanna offend a lot of people like me. I really related to you in regard of the drug issues in europe you talked about in one of your last videos. also, I support healthy, mature international relationships, meaning, IR takes a lot more efforts and self-sacrifice from both sides or a lot more from one than the other. therefore, when done right, it deserves the respects more than any, whereas a lot of people seem to take it lightly and go for it out of an excitement and don’t realize themselves.

    • @jiayiandjulieinchina

No one is neutral in life. I'm an immigrant, so of course we both support immigration. Anything else would be utterly hypocritical. We also live in a country established by communists, which means abortion is considered a protected right. You're entitled to disagree with us, that is your personal right, but we are also allowed to express our opinions ❤😊

@@jiayiandjulieinchina ‘being neutral’ isn’t something that’s required as to your belief. It’s what’s asked in terms of your attitude and choice words to be moderate and unreflecting when you’re interacting with others. meaning, you should choose neutral words or ways to speak around to the real point you want to make without full-on projecting your individual political view to address, which, I believe, was about ‘knowing who you’re dating’, not the “filter out those who disgree with the immigration policy, guys!” such as making frowny face when you say something about those who have different views, unless you wanna turn your youtube channel or any general human interaction into a dogtable of political rants. This is what’s called being respectful.
