  • One of the greatest sources of anxiety and despair is the feeling that there can only be one answer to major problems we face: one ideal job, one ideal lover, one ideal way of life... But we should consider the extent to which there is always, just below the surface, a Plan B available. Flexing our mental Plan B muscle hugely expands our sense of safety and spontaneity.

“We grow up - inevitably - with a strong attachment to a plan A, that is, an idea of how our lives will go and what we need to do to achieve our particular set of well-defined goals. For example, we’ll do four years of law school, then move out west, buy a house and start a family. Or, we’ll go to medical school for 7 years, then go to another country and train in our speciality of interest and hope to retire by fifty. Or we’ll get married and raise two children with an emphasis on the outdoors and doing good in the world…”

Before Renaissance, humans mostly accepted the way of life as fate. Then came Renaissance telling us humans can design their fate. That they're fully capable of planning and executing the way they want it. Well both are two extremes. Now this is the era of synthesis of both the concepts. Fate plays it's role irrespective of how well we plan and how well we execute. We should be rational enough to understand success is just one of the outcomes despite honest efforts. We should be easy enough to adapt to not just plan-B but plan-N.

Just graduated high school a month ago and was planning to take a business course in my dream university but the universe took a left and didn't made me pass. I'm now about to enter a community college, took an education course and let's see what will life throws at me. Never really dreamed of becoming a teacher so I'm still not sure if I'll make a good use of my course- but after everything that happened, I realized that knowing the fact that I still don't truly know what to do with my life, choosing to be emotionally and socially flexible is a must. Even though I never imagined being here in the spot that I am now, I hope that things will naturally make sense in the future 🙏🏻

What's so unusual about that? I was aware of the need for plan B from childhood. By the time I was eight years old, we had moved house seven times. I saw my father lose jobs and find better ones more times than I could count. The difference between victim and victor is the ability to think on one's feet.

Many times society will prevent us from achieving what we want, in those moments we shouldn't throw ourselves against it, strong of our reasons, that would be a waste of time. Rather, it is necessary to ask ourselves: if the current drags me, how can I swim inside it? Without throwing ourselves down, with patience and optimism, we will able to get a fantastic result.

We grew up learning to think in dichotomy, black or white perspective. In that all things are simply either good or bad, right or wrong, black or white etc... We live life a little bit and realize that life isn't black or white, simply, but comes in different shades and hues.. That many a times its not even possible to know which color it is ! ,,,,, May we not give up when "all" options are gone.. Look around, check again....

There are people that get frustrated or unattracted by those who are calm , happy and relaxed and know that there is always a plan b . For example , my girlfriend broken up with me because i was always too calm even on very stressful situations , she said that i'm not perseverant and i'm moving all the work to the next day which means that i will fail in life. My point is , there are people (some are calling them lazy or dumb , maybe myself included) who need more time to finish or to succeed somewhere in life , so don't get burned out by this people , don't change your way of living just because one person is calling you lazy and hesitant , change your way of living if only you feel that you need to change something . The only person that you can trust is you , so let others go

I fail on a daily basis. I have way too many plans. One plan fails I instantly go to another plan. Then it fails then another. Then when the time is right I come back to all these again to check if they still work out and most of the times they do. So just give things time. Don’t clinge to it and everything is gonna turn out to be very good. If something is taken away from you, be thankful because universe is preparing a better thing for you that is meant for you and you only.

One of the most difficult aspects of my life right now is trying to recreate the feeling of passion for something new, my own "plan B". My true passion wasn't sustainable and I had to quit pursuing it. Knowing that there was something I was excited to wake up and do everyday and now it's gone is the worst feeling I've ever experienced. That's the definition of passion. Find that one hobby and go after it. Life's not that simple. The one thing you love can be ripped from you at any moment if you indulge too much. Be careful, people. Remember that nothing is truly guaranteed.

If there is aPlan A that I have too much attachment to or want too much and might not get, I create an even more attractive plan B, so I am not disappointed if I don’t achieve my Plan A. Eg- if I don’t get the great job or pay rise etc, then I start to work on a great vacation plan that I end up wanting as much as the original plan A, so that even if I don’t achieve plan A, my plan B brings happy anticipation rather than disappointment.

The problem is when we focus and get attached to one certain strategy of meeting our need(s), while in reality there are a lot of possible ways we can meet them. Important thing is: stay centered in your needs and not in a specific strategy to meet them and you'll be fine whatever life throws at you :)
