      Yes, and make sure the route "path" chosen going through towns don't cut through the slower neighborhood roads. I found this happens a lot because it is shorter, but it's a PITA. So, check the routing in towns and villages.

    Thank you Henry so much I was having a super hard time planning good routes I was about to give up on BeeLine.
    I see Beeline uses open source maps not google maps so routes are not very good and when I tried to modify my route it was a hell until I saw the click ON route and drag I was clicking outside route and this just creates an end not a waypoint to create a waypoint first click inside route and then drag or click search.
    Beeline needs to use better maps like google maps
    Another thing to improve is the arrow turn its very very close to the next turn and should be as soon as last crossing has passed that way you can know you need to turn next street and not get confused with previous street crossing or end up missing next turn. perhaps an option to select how far ahead you want beeline arrow to move in the direction of the turn 20-30-40 meters or after passing last street crossing before next turn.

      Thanks Paul! Yes definitely there are pros and cons - I find using the beeline I’m more aware and attentive to the road as I’m drawing information from it rather than relying solely on my phone but I have had the occasional where the hell am I moment! Normally a quick pause to check the map on the beeline app fixes that.

    Just wonder if it also reroutes on import GPX files back to the track made.
    Cause you can have waypoints and shape point like in kurviger. In some other Navi reroute has them leave the track up the next waypoint. Skipping shape points.

    • @HenryCrew35
      @HenryCrew35  2 года назад +1

      It won’t reroute for GPX it just points to the point you were heading to when you made the wrong turn and the arrow goes to just an outline to let you know you’re not on the route, you can skip waypoints though.

  • @baldrick650
    @baldrick650 2 года назад

    I absolutely love the sleek look and design of this unit. I currently have a tomtom rider 450 that I have ridden across Europe many times with, but was looking for something a little less obvious on the handlebars. My main worries are:
    1. You can't charge the unit while in use, so I would need a way of charging it at the end of a long days riding. I would also need to charge my phone during the journey so that the battery wouldn't die. (Most of my long distance bike trips start with a good 600 mile day for the first few days at least)
    2. TomTom shows current speed limits, speed cameras and where the next fuel station is, whereas this unit doesn't. I understand to be a sleek unit, there must be a compromise though
    I think for a normal everyday sat nav this would tick all the boxes for me, but I'm unsure if it could replace the TomTom for long distance bike adventures across Europe.
    Prove me wrong, because I still want one 😆

    • @HenryCrew35
      @HenryCrew35  2 года назад +2

      The unit has a 30 hour battery life and charges via USB so you could charge it overnight with a power bank if needed. I’ve not had any issues charging it once or twice on week long road trips.
      Yes you don’t get speed limits and fuel stations etc but the whole design is to be minimalist, for speed limits you should be able to read the road and speed cameras obviously shouldn’t be an issue as we all ride like angels 😉

      @baldrick650 2 года назад

    • @HenryCrew35
      @HenryCrew35  Год назад

      Thanks! Yes but it’s not a set feature, if you set any destination and ask the device to navigate in compass mode it will just point in that direction, you can ride where you want and it will record your route until you end the ride, you can then save it to use again later or just view at your leisure !

  • @Bob-ts2tu

    i have a faq for you Henry - I've seen many posts by someone who has a question and contacts beeline support but doesnt get an answer, myself included over a week ago and still waiting. basically once you have handed money over they don't give a rats arse. IMHO as far as the technology goes it varies from great in the lanes (when there are not many turns) to poor around towns when i seem to get confusing info with the dot sometimes meaning straight on, and sometimes means a turn, or it's hard to tell which turn you want when several streets are close together. I'm a new rider and thought it would be just what i wanted, but so far it's just a 7/10 for me. maybe this will improve over time, but atm i wish id just bought a phone holder using calimoto and my old motorola g7 which has great battery life, which i may end up switching to anyway.

    Just got mine today, went for a quickie. My issue is, if you set it on "avoid motorways" it avoids A roads too. My final bit of the journey was 8 miles on the A406 before I got home. Once I got on it, the Beeline went into a rerouting frenzy. It tried to force me to take every next exit off the 406, I would not , it would reroute. constantly.

    • @HenryCrew35
      @HenryCrew35  3 года назад +1

      Yeh i have had similar blips around this feature - I think it’s mainly based on what Google classes as a ‘Highway’ if you know the route it’s not so bad but can be frustrating. Only way to avoid is to set a nee route not avoiding motorways or plot route with waypoints.

    • @HenryCrew35
      @HenryCrew35  2 года назад

      Hey Mark! I don’t have a metal mount for mine, just plastic ones, the plastic mount does get scuffed from the friction of installing and uninstalling and I think there’s a bit of wear on the plastic one after a couple of years of use but I can’t see any on the metal device itself - obviously plastic isn’t as likely to scuff the metal device where as metal mount would be more likely.

    Hi. If you planned a route and synced with device but your phone runs out of battery during the ride will the route stay saved on the device and still navigate? I know it will still work if your phone loses internet or is in airplane mode but not sure if the same applies if phone dies.

    • @HenryCrew35
      @HenryCrew35  3 года назад

      No it needs to have connection to your phone for GPS so would not work if the Bluetooth fails which would happen should the device run out of battery. Luckily the battery draw from the beeline is very low as it doesn’t use the screen and you can put the phone in power save modes etc that also don’t need data.

      @@HenryCrew35 Thanks. Looking at the route planning tutorial on your website the app shows distances to final destination as black markers. I'm not seeing this on my map? Am I missing something? Would be good to know how far to final destination from certain points or distance to waypoints added along the way.

    • @HenryCrew35
      @HenryCrew35  3 года назад

      Hi Mark, I’m not 100% sure if you’re referring to my website or beeline’s website? The app will tell you the distance to the final destination ie the whole route and an estimate on how long that will take - you may need to update the app if not seeing this as this video covers the latest app update. Once using the device it just has a bar at the top that shows what percentage of the route you’ve completed in reference to distance not estimated time.

    • @markbell6637
      @markbell6637 3 года назад

      @@HenryCrew35 it was on beeline's website and I think they are using an older version of the app on their video because it appears to show markers along the route e.g. 10 miles to destination, 5 miles to destination. That doesn't show on mine and I have the latest version and looking at your video above when you add way point it doesn't appear either. Do you know if when adding waypoints the beeline notifies you when you reach that waypoint or tells you how far to that waypoint. e.g. if you are on a tour and you add a waypoint that may be a landmark you've never been to before, how do you know when you've got there and not gone past it?

      @@HenryCrew35 but jokes aside, I would recommend you to somehow allow 3rd party developers to write their own custom apps to extend the Beeline functionality. Do you remember Pebble smartwatches (or, any other smartwatches, like iWatch, Android Wear, etc...)? Pebble doesn't exist anymore, but they had their internal AppStore to install some apps. So in your case, it would be also very beneficial for the community. As a developer, I wouldn't complain about the speed camera warnings, instead, I would write an app by myself and share it for free with other fellow riders. And any Beeline user could download this app and install it on Beeline. Speak with your devs, if it is technically possible, then I would recommend implementing something like that. That would be awesome.
      P.S. thanks for your inspirational IG account, I follow you for a long time ;)

    You said that it doesn’t use your phone battery up, but I’m finding it does, am I doing something wrong. Once I’ve put the route in and press go, should I put the phone in airplane mode so it’s offline.

    • @HenryCrew35

      You can do, it will still work when offline but won’t auto re route you, it’s a long time since I made this video but I think I was saying that it doesn’t use battery in comparison to google maps where you’re using the screen. It’s going to depend a lot on the battery health and age/model of your phone. You can check battery health in the settings.

I just went on a 3hr ride this morning and put the beeline app in the background after hitting GO, as it appears the screen doesnt automatically dim after a minute or so when it's running and i got much better battery life, so that's what the problem appears to be. Maybe a 'run in background' setting to do it automatically would be useful as it sort of defeats the objective to have it constantly refreshing on the phone display when using the gizmo as well, however it's easy enough to do manually i suppose.

    Not so good for we Yanks.
    The big arrow indicator doesn't work well at all for intercity riding. (Here in the States, where we have like 5 round-abouts in the entire country)
    At intersections (junctions) the Beeline's big arrow doesn't change to indicate the needed turn direction until mere feet before the turn.
    For inter-city navigation, its common that you need to be in the proper lane well before the turn. The Big Arrow is no help for that. This makes the Big Arrow feature worthless.
    I've waited at a busy traffic light intersection, 3 car lengths back from the traffic light, and the BeeLine still hasn't indicated a turn was necessary.
    Yes the small DOT and the 'distance to go' should indicate which way to turn. But if you are in 3 or 4 lanes of traffic you need to pick the turn lane well before you get there. What good is the Big Arrow?
    For my money - and Use Case - the Dot and Miles-to-Go should be the larger displays, not the Arrow. (that's not going to happen :-)
    I haven't used it outside my large city so it may be more useful riding in the countryside.
    Virtually all YT demos of the BeeLine have featured round-about navigation. Not traffic lights.
    (I use a Pixel 6 Pro phone. cell service is on and its in my top shirt pocket)
    In spite of this Arrow problem I'll keep using the BeeLine and the Arrow will keep telling me When I have turned.
