  • Sharing my thoughts on the Beeline Moto Navigation GPS Unit after having used it for over a year. There are some pros and some cons (one of which is a product killer)...
    *UPDATE 9/21/21*
    Beeline reached out and suggested that they did not receive my emails due to spam filters etc... Regardless of that, they're sending me a replacement. So take that with a grain of salt. After multiple emails, only this NEUTRAL review got them to respond. I stand by the product, and will continue to use it, because ultimately I like it, despite their spotty customer service.

    I've also had my Beeline for a few years, but have never had to use service so I can't speak to that. Otherwise, I think your pros and cons list is spot on. I used this to travel across the US last year and your comment on the arrow pointing was what I experienced. There were a couple of times that I got turned around and needed to stop, put in my destination again from where I was and then proceed. Kind of a pain. Otherwise I keep using it because I like the pros. It is about 1/3 the cost of a more traditional GPS, so I didn't expect it to work as flawlessly as that. Nice, honest review.

    Somehow the customer service experience is really different from what I've experienced (well, we're both a sample size of 1 after all)
    I just emailed them to let them know that the philips head screw in their scooter mount is prone to rusting, with a photo accompanying the email. To my surprise they just sent me a replacement scooter mount, no question asked.

    Good honest review. I was considering purchase, but you just confirmed one of the cons that makes it pretty much useless for me. The big arrow seems to be pointing ahead all of the time, like telling you to keep riding ahead. Like if I didn't know that. And then it suddenly turns right/left when you get to the turn. What's the point? I know that the round dot is telling you in which direction next turn will be and the numbers tell you the distance to that point. That is the only useful info. The big arrow in the middle tho!

    Good to know, thanks, saved a a few hundred notes there in total as I have it in my shopping basket funnily enough. I’ll stick with my current method using a sorry looking bust up iPhone XR covered in cling film and electrical tape as a it has a big screen and a cheap bike phone holder I got from Wilco that doesn’t vibrate for 12 quid lol. So far nobody has nicked it but works fine for me. I don’t get the Beeline thing, I thought it would have a countdown to turn left or right etc but it’s just like a compass from what I can see.

    Interesting review, not sure why this keeps being called a Navigation Device, it just take data from your phone and puts it on the screen in a simplistic way. Shame about the customer service experience you are having, that is a deal breaker for most - take care.

    I purchased the Triumph version of the moto, only used it occasionally and it was in as new condition. Went to used it a couple of weeks back and it started up normally but saying there was an update available. So in the middle of the update it stopped. I contacted Beeline an they told me to try a few things which all failed and acually caused the display to bleed pixels. They then told me the unit has hardware problems and stated I would have to pay to have it repaired. The support email process took two weeks due to each time you reply to an email you get an automated response sayign the team will be in touch. Buyer Beware.

    I'm a little bit confused on how this warranty stuff works over there in the USA. Here in Austria (and I believe in most of Europe), we have a 2 year warranty by law. I purchase (or order) a product from a store (not from the developer) and if something goes wrong with the product, I bring (or send it) back to the store and they repair or replace it. I only have to bother with the customer service of the shop,...which usually is good.

    • @VectorBurnOfficial
      @VectorBurnOfficial  2 года назад +5

      Warranty here works the same way. But it wasn't a lack of warranty that was upsetting... 1. I bought it through kickstarter - directly from Beeline, a few years ago. I'm sure any warranty was gone, which I accept because... 2. I wasn't asking them to replace the unit, just to see if it was repairable. 3. After initial response by Beeline, they ignored my follow up emails (3-4 emails). And they only finally responded after this video was uploaded and offered to replace the unit - again something I wasn't requesting. I was more than happy to buy a new one. They claimed that my emails were caught in spam filters, which frankly I don't believe.

    Think you've missed/ forgot to put the key feature of this device on this review. I'm commenting on this because the other comments looks as though they are trying to compare it to a standard satnav. I may be wrong but i believe your review shows it in turn by turn mode. From my understanding there are 2 options with this turn by turn guidance and the other being an arrow pointing to the destination. I thought that was the point of this- let the user find their way the route they like, just head in the general direction of the arrow. That's the reason i'd buy it personally anyway. Believe this is more designed for leisure riding/ country roads than cities.

    • @VectorBurnOfficial

      I don't recall mentioning it, but the marketing video does briefly show that option. Personally though I'm aware of the feature I've never used it. But that's just me. I do like having it as an option though. Thanks for pointing it out!

    mmm like mix thinking, could it be that your phone is old and using an older type Bluetooth, might be why its a bit slow on showing as you said, but this is a good thing to know Garmin is the same I had a 350-pound Garmin and my tomtom 100 pound beats it hands down,i found that Garmin was laggy and i can pass the turn but yet the car on the nav will show I'm coming up to it, something dragged off the net about Bluetooth, Speed. When it comes to speed, the difference between Bluetooth 4 and 5 is a no-brainer. The former has a maximum speed of , while the latter clocks in at 2 Mbps. The higher bandwidth allows faster data sharing with less lag and quicker response times but is 150 pounds or so worth the try to see if one is lucky that the moto works ok.

    So, if you're just out on a nice ride with no particular destination, this really doesn't do anything for you? Am I understanding that correctly? I don't want to have to enter a destination point every time a ride, isn't the whole point of a ride just to wander?

    • @VectorBurnOfficial
      @VectorBurnOfficial  Год назад

      It's a turn by turn gps unit that's tied to an app on your phone. If you're not riding anywhere specific, it's not something you'd have a use for. However it does have a sort of compass feature where you put in an address, let's say you're riding home, and it'll simply always point to where your house is. And what roads to take to get there will be up to you.

    What was your issue per contacting customer service? I don't understand your puzzlement with the arrow. It's quite similar to the next turn arrow on any other navigation unit is it not? Not pointing to final destination but indicating the direction you will go per a direction change along your route. I believe. It should ultimately move back to center after the change and you are headed the right way...until the next change of direction. Basic turn by turn indicator. As I understand other reviews.

    • @VectorBurnOfficial
      @VectorBurnOfficial  Год назад

      Regarding customer service... They ignored me for serval months even after multiple emails. This video was the only reason they reached out.
      Regarding the arrow... As many other have complained, the arrow shows that it's time turn way too close to the actual turn. Going at speed, there are times I've missed it. There has to be a better way. Perhaps it should rotate further back giving you enough time to slow down.

    • @MisterSuki

      @@VectorBurnOfficial There is an indicator per distance to turn is there not? A readout that counts down the distance to the next turn well in advance of turn as I understand it. Still don't know the reason for your customer service contact.

      @@VectorBurnOfficial I just ordered one after watching many other reviews with video showing the distance to turn digital indicator. Is that not correct? • @VectorBurnOfficial
      @VectorBurnOfficial  Год назад +1

      @@MisterSuki There is a distance to turn. But you have to be paying attention to it to know when the turn is coming up. Which means your eyes aren't on the road. It would be better if there was a larger indicator that a turn is imminent. Like a large turned arrow that's blinking faster and faster as the turn is approaching. Or something like that. I find that looking at a small number indicating distance to turn is distracting. But that's me.

    • @MisterSuki
      @MisterSuki Год назад +1

      @@VectorBurnOfficial Thanks, I have mine now and would agree and I think the device should be a bit larger overall...thus a slightly bigger display. Not so good for we Yanks.
    The big arrow indicator doesn't work well at all for intercity riding. (Here in the States, where we have like 5 round-abouts in the entire country)
    At intersections (junctions) the Beeline's big arrow doesn't change to indicate the needed turn direction until mere feet before the turn.
    For inter-city navigation, its common that you need to be in the proper lane well before the turn. The Big Arrow is no help for that. This makes the Big Arrow feature worthless.
    I've waited at a busy traffic light intersection, 3 car lengths back from the traffic light, and the BeeLine still hasn't indicated a turn was necessary.
    Yes the small DOT and the 'distance to go' should indicate which way to turn. But if you are in 3 or 4 lanes of traffic you need to pick the turn lane well before you get there. What good is the Big Arrow?
    For my money - and Use Case - the Dot and Miles-to-Go should be the larger displays, not the Arrow. (that's not going to happen :-)
    I haven't used it outside my large city so it may be more useful riding in the countryside.
    Virtually all YT demos of the BeeLine have featured round-about navigation. Not traffic lights.
    (I use a Pixel 6 Pro phone. cell service is on and its in my top shirt pocket)
    In spite of this Arrow problem I'll keep using the BeeLine and the Arrow will keep telling me When I have turned.

      It's for people who don't want to mount their phone on the handlebars, which has potential to not only break the phone's camera from vibration, to losing the phone entirely if the clamp fails. Plus it is also for people who want a minimalist approach to navigation. Just the arrow... No other information that a phone or a GPS would have.

    • @johnshirbini5801
      @johnshirbini5801 2 года назад

      @@VectorBurnOfficial These are all wrong reasons. The quad lock has a sturdy mount system; it also has an anti-vibration add-on mount system. Never lose any phone with their system, and there are many great RAM mounts over there. The arrow doesn't work correctly and confusing, especially in the city with too many turns. You still have to use your phone regardless you mount it, put it in your pocket or the motorcycle saddlebags. It's very destructing, especially in the city with many turns. The regular or the phone navigation has a turn-by-turn voice that can be used without looking at the phone. This thing you need to keep looking to it if you ride in the city and this is very distracting. If you forget or lost your phone, this thing is useless. As a motorcyclist, I need to have a spare solution if I lose one; the other can work independently.
