I was born in 1972, grew up in the 1980's. Most of the best years, best memories of my life are from that magical decade. Even those older than me (parents age) agree. The 80's is a past that still feels like it's in the future. The 80's feels new even 35-40 years on. The 80's makes me feel young, it makes me look forward to years in life I no longer have in front of me. It makes me miss a girl that I've never met. It makes me believe in a future that's already passed me by. It's the impossible dream that still feels within reach.....
It is around the world, synth was invented by the Japanese in the early 80s. Then West Germany picked it up, and it quickly exploded into every western European club up until the mid 90s.
I remember the first time I listened to this album in full; I was driving alone out of Las Vegas after visiting family, and was on my way back home to San Diego, the sun was setting over Death Valley as this song played. I just had positive vibes and high hopes during the long and tiring trip as this album, as well as FM-84'S Atlas, helped make it better.. From seeing the desert turn to mountains, and the mountains turn to valleys, and the valleys turn to the ocean lit by the full moon setting on the western horizon, and just having this music playing during the whole trip.. Good experience. Good times..
Funny enough i just came back from las vegas yesterday and was blasting this song along with the Midnight's album, FM-83 and Ollie wride and just how the sun was setting during the music brought those vibes back. Best experiences in my life ^.^
@@ValorieValentine You know the exact feeling as well 😅 It's perfect. Speaking of which, this coming weekend I'm going to be taking another trip out to Arizona to see some friends, and maybe even make a stop in Vegas considering the town I'll be visiting is a couple hours southeast of LV. And I know what I'll be listening to along the way to/from😎 Saving the latest albums from Timecop1983, FM-84, and of course The Midnight. Already heard America 2, but not yet the whole album it came from. Saved it just for this soon trip 😌 We're all young and alive, let's live it all out while we still can 🤘🏼
This track has the strangest memory attached to it for me. It reminds me of a year long friendship, or perhaps more than friendship, I had with a married woman. I was married too. We were both having issues with our spouses, though her issues were dramatically much worse than mine. Her husband was incarcerated and her son had passed away from a rare disorder. There was nothing sexual or romantic about our relationship, just really intimate and emotionally connected to each other. Ultimately, we helped each other, supported one another through our issues. My relationship with my wife improved, her husband got released and turned a corner. Then we said our goodbyes and never spoke again. But it ended on the sweetest of notes. I never met her in person, but I got to know her as a person. I’ll never forget that year of my life. And I’ll remember her every time I heard this song.
Nostalgic for a life I never had. Beautiful line. I feel the same. When I watched breakfast club for the first time I knew I was born too late. The early to mid eighties music and the bands like gunship and the midnight captured the zenith of analog synthesizers with digital production and recording, making some of the most perfect sound. Emotional and dramatic, deep and scary
Should have known at the end of summer The innocence fades and the weak become stronger Should have known at the end of the summer I'd be lost without you The skyline looked like a stained glass window The city sang such mad crescendo Four bare feet on a rain soaked street Summer airbrushed fever dreams Disappeared in a camera flash Why do the bad girls never last Lost in gin and lemonade Elecrospins and the mermaid parade Four quartets and no regrets Except for the polaroids I left You were just some spell i was under That endless summer
This track I would never stop listening. I’m near 80s of birth. I’m 43 soon to be 44. Still listen to Gunship, the midnight and others. This who are the early 80s as I am are family. Who still here listening to this in 2021. Punch the thumb up..
This is the soundtrack of an America that felt like a dream and that is gone now, only leaving behind a melancholic generation closing its eyes trying to remember it.
This cooment right here embodies why this band is so great, they truly make you feel all sorts of things with their sound alone. It's magical, really. And then their lyrics are quite good too, full of stories and meaning.
you need to listen to more music then, nothing special , its good, nice stuff, but nothing that amazing lol , big deja vue they even puted in some donkey kong contry sound lol
The last line in the song "You were just some spell I was under - That endless summer" gives me mad goosebumps. I met my lady just before Summer this year and spent much that time courting her until she was ready to be my girlfriend. Despite some of the other hardships I was going through during these months, she made it one of the best Summers of my life.

There's a very specific feedback sound that plays at the end of this song. I wish I knew what type of sound it WAS exactly to look up other examples of it. It's very calming for me. It's the little....tinkling chiming electronic sound that bounces from one ear to the other.
We all have a summer we fondly remember, for me I was 16 in 1984 just left school life rapidly became one of parties and being out all night staying up until dawn without a care in the world. Those things passed by but I still love the music from the 80's. :)
