'THE HISTORY of FRIDAY THE 13' Part I - The Original Trilogy.

- Friday The 13th began its life as a complete and utter ripoff of Halloween. That’s not me talking smack, that’s not an insult, it’s true! But copycat jobs wouldn’t be the monster under the hockey mask’s lasting legacy, though. Over time, Jason became his own man. Or, his own boy, it’s hard to say sometimes. Friday The 13th would step out of Halloween’s shadow and, on multiple occasions, defeat the Boogeyman head to head at the worldwide box office, proving to movie-goers and hardcore horror hounds that, yes, Jason was indeed an icon of the highest caliber. Today kicks off THE HISTORY of FRIDAY THE 13th!

Unfortunately, all my money goes into a special fund...
It's called the "My Landlord Demands the Rent on the Fourth of every Month" fund.
Seriously though... I've been saying this to you for quite a while... but I'm not bullshittin' ya. As soon as I do have even just a little bit of "disposable" income... I'll become a patron!
F13 3 was my 2nd Friday, Chris is annoying but I love Richard Brooker 👍💜🐾😊
@@mychunkyjordi7585Richard was the archetype. The best hands down.
I think your review of part's 1 & 2 were fairly accurate, but I completely disagree with you about 3. Maybe you've been influenced by other influencers, I don't know. You said the acting was worse than other installments, but I don't think so. None of them are Oscar level. You said you didn't think there was a need to make part 3, but you could say the samething about 4 or the other sequels. Part 3 is my favorite installment by the way. Mainly because of Richard Brooker's depiction of Jason. & his makeup job. He was the archetype Jason for me. The thing is with 3, is to make an honest assessment, you have to see it in 3D. I have a 3D tv & 3D blu-ray, so I've seen it the way it was intended. I'm also a fan of the 3D format itself. & yeah, Pamela jumping out of the lake at the end was stupid, but it was only seconds of the film. I would also add, that part 4's Jason was just copying what part 3 already did. Part 3 came up with that version of Jason from scratch. 4 didn't have to do that. Having said all that, it's an opinion at the end of the day. So to each his own. I appreciated the time you spent making the video regardless.
@@ShinobiShaman Chris is a bit annoying but 3 is great 👍👍👍😊🐾💜
Ginny is not the sole survivor of Part 2.
Ted, the gawky prankster, never left the bar to go back to the camp with everyone else who ends up dead (except Ginny).

I'm going to give it to you straight about Muffin. Her body was never recovered... and if you listen to the old timers in town they'll tell you she's still out there. in 2022 and 2023 I volunteered at a Halloween haunt, the number of people who dont know the difference between Michael and Jason is alarming
How's it alarming. People don't need to dive into everything to simply enjoy. What's alarming is how seriously you take it.
Makes me sick.
@@Nitemericanyou really need to find more important things to be upset about
@@deadpool3982 lol it ain’t that serious my guy.
@@MothmanBePraised I dont expect people to spot the nuance of the costume or anything but, the number of times I was called Michael while dressed as Jason, when theres already a Michael running around was noteworthy to me.
i guess what im saying is the recent sequels helped the awareness of Halloween and its time for a new Friday.
Part 3 for as silly as it is still has one of the best final showdowns with Jason, him just refusing to die and taunting Chris haunted my dreams when I was a kid.
So much fun, man. And Chris' actress had a great scream.
The disco music rocks
Wake up babe, new "History Of" series just dropped
Heeellll yea, dude.
Ima kid at Christmas over here. Ian's history of series is hands down the best content on RUclips. Feels like I've been waiting year's for this. Despite not being the biggest jason/friday the 13th fan i will repeatedly enjoy this just as i do the other history's regardless of subject matter. U da man ian.
Thanks for watching!

Part 3 is still my favorite, and yes I'm fully aware of its short comings lmao Also, Richard Brooker who played Jaspn in part 3 really brought the physicality cause he took a beating in some of those stunts
Brooker definitely killed it.
I still remember when the Halloween retrospective dropped I was so hyped, fast forward years later I’m sitting on my own couch watching a Friday 616 retrospective with a tattoo of the first Halloween poster 🥲
Let's go!
Man, I about died when you were crying and wandering around. That was awesome!
Hahahaha good
I have a funny story about how I got introduced to the Friday the 13th series. My grandma, for which I probably would have been eight years old at the time, loved to go to the drive-in theaters and we would go quite often to see whatever the latest films were that released. One weekend, Friday the 13th was one of those films. I’ve been noticed to her, because I don’t think she knew what we were about to see.
When the movie started and after that opening sequence, my grandma flipped out over what she was seeing. Though, being the person she is/ was, we ended up staying because I was amazed at what I was seeing and was drawn to it. She sat for the rest of the film with her hands over her eyes. A testament as to how far she would go to make her grandson happy. I think about that a lot every time I see the first movie and subsequent releases. Because if not for her, I may have not been introduced to the franchise and love it so much.
Such great times and great memories. Thanks for helping to bring some of those memories back.
I've seen a lot of youtube reviews of the Friday The 13th movies, but none of them are in this level. Well done sir!
Highly appreciated, dude.
The ending to part 2 is definitely a dream. when Paul carries Ginny back to the cabin, she falls asleep when they enter the cabin. That's when the dream begins
You say "definitely" but it's not definite, at all. Nor is it ever really answered. They did it on purpose.
Dude, I was introduced to this channel through the "Halloween" movies retrospective. Now I'm all for a "Friday the 13th" retrospective. Let's GOOO
Thanks for sticking around. =)
I really enjoyed history of Halloween. Looking forward to this. Let's be fair. Jason doesn't exist without Michael Myers
You’ll see I cover this in great detail.
Dude, it would be awesome to have a beer with you. I was born in 87. I feel like we had very similar childhoods. When you talk about the video store at the beginning of your video. That really hit home. Keep up the good work dude.

This was such a wild experience. My mind was blown at literally everything I learned of this franchise from this one video. Despite it being censored here on YT, it’s still a fun time to watch. Thank you for these retrospectives, Ian. Your hard work truly is amazing, and I love you for putting your heart and soul into these. Happy 616, and I hope we all have a good one.😊❤️

I was a kid in the early 80s. The rental boom just got rolling. If you watched any of these, you were King Badass of the schoolyard for the day. If you are a fan of the series, the Crystal Lake Memories book is a MUST. It leaves no stone unturned.

Jason with the bag over his head and just eye holes was creepier than the hockey mask even though the mask is more iconic
@@thomasffrench3639 Well child me thought other wise it is tame to today's standards
I think one of the issues was that it was done before. Like in The Town That Dreaded Sundown, like I mentioned in the video. Plus, both actors from Part 2 HATED the hood. Very hard to work in.

Long may Patches reign indeed.
I’m so happy you made this. Been waiting for a Friday the 13 series. I’m both a fan of Halloween and Friday the 13 movies. I grew up mostly with Friday the 13 movies plus I live 30 minutes away from the camp site of the first Friday movie. Keep doing what you doing 👍
I love how he found a way to diss on Halloween 5 even in this video lol. Hatred runs deep. 😂😂

Great video man. Loved everything even though it was blurred and best hour of my night 🌙 😌
Been waiting for this! Soon as the England game finishes I’m gonna kick back and enjoy 🍿thank you 616
Thanks for watching!
Part 3 was the first of this series I watched myself as a kid so it will always hold a soft spot in my heart. As I got older my friend and me would watch it and laugh at how goofy it was and still laugh thinking about it. One of our favorite scenes was when the biker girl is swinging out of the barn window and the guy below tells her to get down, then when he looks up and realizes she is gone he is so confused. It’s like maybe she listened and got down to help you 😂. In fact during this video I messaged my buddy and he sent the clip of the biker getting impaled and we had to laugh that he had to check his back to make sure the spikes went all the way through! Good times indeed! I know I’m late to watching this but I can’t wait to watch the rest!
My fascination with the Friday films started when i was six years old. That was when Friday the 13th premiered on HBO in 1981. My older siblings invited their friends over and the next thing I knew my living room was full of scared teenagers watching the movie thru their fingers as I cowered on top of the stairs listening to their screams and rejoicing in their laughter. My folks thought i was too young to partake in the festivities. They were probably right. I mean, after the film ended, my sister was going to a sleep over at her friend's house across the street. Her and her friend were so scared that the friend called her mom to turn the porch light on and wait at the door for them to arrive!!
Ginny was a child psychologist, so her having empathy and a sense of Jason's psyche was legit and made complete sense
I know, that’s why she’s a great character.
@@616Entertainment sorry you didn’t enjoy pt3 upon rewatching it lol
There are still great moments, the final chase and the violence are awesome, it’s just not good overall.
@@616Entertainment ah worries dude, to each his own. I am baffled by people who love Jason X. But I choked on my food a little laughing when you referred to your memory of pt3s quality as a Mandela Effect 😂 Looking forward to the next installment

I have been waiting for this thank you so much I loved the Halloween series I know I will love this too!
Hell yea! Thanks for watching.
Ive been waiting for you to cover this series since the very beginning!
Friday pt. 2 is the first horror movie I ever watched, way back in 1986. Ive been a huge fan ever since... And it pains me that we may never again get a main line sequel, set in the original timeline/canon.
The game was (and still is) a dream come true.
At least well always have that and the classic films!
Very well done and comprehensive retrospective, Ian. Can't wait for the next installment.
Tom Savini... a "legend"?
Nah...
Tom Savini is a GOD AMONGST MEN!
Savini's the man, no doubt.
Come on dude, thanks to part 3 we got the hockey mask
So what? The movie sucks. I'm not reviewing fashion pickups!
@616Entertainment You realize most of us here are fans so we don't think any of it sucks, right?
And here you are a dick to viewers. Not cool, man. Wtf
I was gonna subscribe because you cover horror, but you just talk and present yourself like a total a-hole.
The whole franchise has flaws, from conception to the present time, and not every film is a banger... but we love them and hold them in high regards. You cover this series but don't even approach it with any love at all.
Muffin was the mastermind behind everything.
I'm not sure if anyone else feels this way but F13 is a comfort series for me. Everytime I binge them I am extremely happy. Don't get me wrong Halloween is goated, but the F13 sequels are so much better. Also thank you Ian for this, cannot wait to hear your thoughts on the rest of the franchise; part 2 - 5 are probably my favorites in the franchise though. I really enjoy how creepy sack jason is in P2, and the mask consistency is wild too after p3 unlike Halloween.
I'm a Halloween > Friday guy, but I love them both!
There you go buddy! F13 is great but Halloween is the jam
God-yes! Then Nightmare AFTER?! I’m stoked for the next four years it’ll take to make all these retrospectives. Jesus Christ. I’m so damn stoked.
Now I’m also bummed because I’m seeing part 1 right after release and know I’m waiting forever. Gaahhh!
No plans for The History of Nightmare On Elm Street, but that's not to say it won't happen. Just not currently in the works. We'll see.
So there's a uncut version of part 3 that make the gore from the film look like Disney friendly in comparison lol
That's not what I've heard. Where'd you hear this?
Now I have to make a decision. So I watch these monthly, or do I wait 5 months and binge them all for the first time in one sitting? Decisions decisions… 🤔
Do not wait for them to stack up. I will re-release them as a full movie near the end of the year, you can watch as they come and then watch the full movie, if you like.
The “I’ll wait” approach really sucks for me, lol. The performance of these videos is determined by watch time. When people wait for the whole thing, each part is hurt.
@@616Entertainmentfair enough. I’m watching it now lol
Did you see it in 3D? Prob not. the 3D was actually good and people watch these movies for kills. Not Shakespearean dialogue or anything else. If you do come for that then, your watching the wrong movie. Part3 is on of my favs. Maybe because its the first one i saw in theaters at age 10. But it served its purpose.
Watched it over on Patreon, good video, can't wait for the rest.
Thanks man, highly appreciated.
Great channel , content and narrative skills. Glad I came across this channel ❤
Found your channel by accident. Glad I did! Great job, very entertaining. I’m older, so got to see all of these in theaters when they were released. Well not all, after Pt. 5 I was done spending theater money on them 😂. The original and part 2 were my most memorable. Part 2 is probably my favorite. I was 14 and between that and Halloween 2 it was a great time to be young and see these with other screaming kids. I will say the ad campaign for 3 was crazy. Stupid movie but watching in 3D was fun.
Dude hell yea. I did a whole series on Halloween as well, hope you check that out and enjoy!

Hey Ian I really enjoyed your part 1 of this Friday the 13th retrospective series 👍🏻 I pretty much agreed with you the entire video about the first 3 movies. Cool kills by Jason but a rinse and repeat of same story if you can call it that 😂 can’t wait for the next episode. The Jarvis trilogy is a lot better in my opinion.

Great video and story off this movies, subscribed😀🇧🇻
Part 6 is my favorite movie and a awesome soundtrack like part 3😍
I saw all these movies from part 3 onward, on opening night at the theater.
The 3D in F13 part 3 was unparalleled until modern times with movies like Avatar. It was impossible to recreate those 3D effects without catching a rare screening of the original 35 mm film with custom grey glasses, that were used in theaters.
That was until recently with the advent of decent VR headsets. If you dig around the internet enough you can find a high quality SBS 3D version of this movie for VR and…. It is absolutely spectacular.
If you can ever get your hands on that… it’s definitely worth your time.

I love that!
I love these films but ive always been a big proponent of a diferent trilogy in this series, 3, 4, 5. Films 3, 4, and 5 are essential and the series could stop there. # recaps, 1 and 2 well enough to not necesarily need them. 6 might hold up beter than 3 for some audiences, but for me its 3,4,5 as the best trilogy in this series.
Hey, you do you!
Lets go!!! Now Friday is getting a retrospective like halloween!!!
Yeeeessssir.
It's crazy how Friday the 13th wasn't supposed to be a generic slasher movie. You think that when you're watching it but there a twist at the end that shows you that there was no back from the dead killer monster and it was just an old lady getting revenge for her kid. But then it ended becoming the most famous monster slasher movie ever 🤣
Hahahahha

No idea. I announced it in October of 2023 and have been talking about it since. 8 months of hype and some of you don't even know it existed, lol. Gotta love it.
I'm not going to lie, I've been waiting for this for what feels like forever. Your insight and retrospective on Halloween were fantastic. This was no different. The history of the franchise is something fierce. Reading the book, Crystal Lake's memories solidified that claim for sure. I've always been a huge fan of the genre. Truth be told, my mom was a huge fan of the genre and would go on to name her only child, Jason. Why, you may ask? I was born on Friday the 13th, and that was her favorite series. I could only guess that was the reason, but it would be revealed when I was 25. She finally spilled the beans confirmed it. She may not be with me anymore as she passed away in 2020 but I'll always feel her presence. Thank you for bringing in some much needed memories as I'm going through losses in my life. Thanks man, more to come!
For me my first experience of Friday the 13th came also in the 90's. USA Network & Tnt's Monstervision would have Friday the 13th marathons on Friday the 13th. Those times were great, I know that you can buy them which I have but it was something special about watching those movies with Gilbert, Rhonda on Usa and Joe Bob on Tnt.
Jason is the true Icon of the 80s. Let that sink in...Yes we are a copy cat, but we perfected the slasher genre.
“We” lol. Sean, is that you? Victor? Hahahaha
Actually, Victor Miller went to go see Halloween in the movie theater as production for Friday the 13th started in September 1979, which would’ve made the beginning script writing during late 78 and early 79 no VCR‘s . I was in Blairstown, New Jersey at the 40th anniversary, where they explained it.

You’re right about the 3D scenes being weak but @ that time 3D was the new thing so everyone was trying to make 3D movies.
Can't wait till you get to part 5 my absolute favorite
Next time!

Great Video Ian. The snail part almost killed me.😂
That bit seems to be hitting, excellent, hahahaha
Love the castlevaina music in background
Just rewatch Friday The 13th part 2 and wonder Jason took his mother`s head and sweater what happened to the rest of her body?? did the police found her headless and topless and thought what happen???? Great channel!!!
Hahahahaha
Friday fans, don’t watch this. It’s a condescending take using every negative take given in Friday docs without understanding what this franchise is or taking into consideration what fans have grown to love.
Btw, Savini turned down Friday 2 cause he was working on The Burning. Guess that fact wasn't snarky enough?
Why don’t you just be honest with what you mean? “Friday die hards who are hurt by anything but ass kissing and consoooooom culture, avoid this! It speaks on the harsh truths of Hollywood and several of its projects.”
Sorry you don't like a *direct quote* from Tom Savini and would rather point a different reason that he turned the job down, despite, once again, me pulling a **direct quote** from the man himself.
Grow up, dude.
@@616Entertainment I wrote and posted a lengthy reply to yours but i do not want to litter your page with silliness. I took it down. Keep up the good work. You do a great job and all the best.
We need a new Fri 13th.. these guys need to work together and get it done!
