    What’s up my man. Went to a recruiter a couple weeks ago and told him I’m set on Corpsman and nothing else. He said it’s really overmanned right now and it really depends on luck if it’s open at that time or not. He said to pick at least 4 other jobs that I would want. I said there aren’t any, all I want to do is Corpsman. He said he won’t take me to MEPS for only that one job. Is he just blowing smoke about not having any openings or should I look at other jobs?

    • @theofficialdaveharris8794
      @theofficialdaveharris8794  3 года назад +2

      It’s kind of hard to tell if he’s blowing smoke but I you are qualified for corpsman they could make some happen. If your not press for time I would tell them to call you when they have corpsman available.

    Hey man I’ve got another question my recruiter recently gave me a paper that my parents were to sign and promised that it did not lock me into joining the navy and that it was only to consent for a background check since I’m underage. But on this paper it specifically said, “parental/guardian consent for enlistment” and then states that the parents are giving consent for “I/we understand that, as a member of a reserve component, he/she must serve minimum periods of active duty for training...” it then goes on to explain that I will basically be enlisted in the reserves or something like that. I’m going to speak with the recruiter that gave me the paper tomorrow, but you are the only outside source that’s in the military that I know of.

    • @trevorcarpenter3253
      @trevorcarpenter3253 5 лет назад +1

      Please give me some advice or warning against this.

    • @trevorcarpenter3253
      @trevorcarpenter3253 5 лет назад +1

      All that this paper was supposed to agree too is that I consent for a background check and to take a secondary test for qualification into the nuke program.

    • @theofficialdaveharris8794
      @theofficialdaveharris8794  5 лет назад

      Trevor Carpenter Great question!! To me that’s doesn’t sound like the official contract stating the you will be joining the military. Because you don’t even have a job yet and I right?

    • @trevorcarpenter3253
      @trevorcarpenter3253 5 лет назад

      The Official Dave Harris yeah, I’m a 17 year old senior in high school, I havent qualified yet for the nuclear program or chosen any other job. The paper we’re signing is supposed to be for the background check so I can take that test to qualify or not qualify for the nuke program. Just the wording of it seems so sketchy and i know that a nuclear technician has got to be a rate that they’re looking for people to fill. That along with the fact that I haven’t met the dude that gave my mom those papers just seems a bet sketchy to me.

    • @theofficialdaveharris8794
      @theofficialdaveharris8794  5 лет назад

      Also double check with your recruiter just to make sure you are not joining by signing this, but took me it just sounds like what you said a parent consent agreeing to let you join the navy.

    The part where you said they need you it is so true ...........do not think that you need them they will work with you don’t have them try to rush or do anything I have mine trying to rush me to take the asvab I gave her a specific date don’t have them rush you

    @The Offical Dave Harris when I tried the navy recruiting office the station commander told me " if you want to be in the Seabees you should've gone to a trade school or college instead. But what matters is what can you do for us in the navy." I then told him I want to hear the army's side of things. Army station commander said " I can get you any job you want " Ended up signing my contract for the army as 12k plumber.

    I ship for Boot Camp December 10th, I’m going in as a PS FTS (Personnel Specialist Full Time Support). I am 21 years old. I’m not quite sure what to expect from boot camp, A School then anything after that. Any advice on how to be successful in boot camp, A school, the fleet and better rank? I’m going in as a E-1. The reason I joined the Navy is to gain discipline, I felt it would give me a better opportunity of education and opportunity to do something good with my life. My goal right now is to stay 4 years and afterwards open a business. If I like the Navy, I may do 20 years and retire.

    I choose IC but I ain't too sure about it even tho I did sign the contract. Like I'm really bad math and this long sea duty thing does intimidate me, was looking for of a 50/50 or close, when it comes to sea duty and shore duyy time.

    • @theofficialdaveharris8794
      @theofficialdaveharris8794  5 лет назад +1

      Gregori Viegas I never heard anything bad about the IC rate I no one good thing is they handle with and fix phones around the ship so you could call home when you want. Plus you will have no problem finding a job when you get out of the navy.

    Damn Dave this is my favorite video on the enlisting/recruiting phase of joining the military. You made some good ass points and how you said we should bring someone we know who served with us to the office, is an awesome idea. Also, you deserve many many thanks and much more for just offering to go with us. I'm like shoot, where you live?? I'm in Michigan and Ohio 🤣🤣. I had to rewatch this video a couple of times because the content is so valuable.

      Maya Mazurek I don’t know any personally but I did work with a few. The few GM’s that I knew loved their job. Who doesn’t like handling with guns they also have a good advancement rate. The only downside I hear is that they do a lot of maintenance on their weapons. Other then that I think you will like being a GM.

    Hey Dave I’m 17 years old and my uncle is in the navy and I just toured his base this weekend and I loved it I’m extremely interested but the only reason why I’m hesitant in doing it is because I’m a huge family person and i don’t feel like I could handle being away for such a long period of time so there any tips you could give me as to why I should go in to kind of help build up my mindset (kind of what my uncle did this weekend) and also anything else I should think about thankyou very much

    • @theofficialdaveharris8794
      @theofficialdaveharris8794  5 лет назад

      Great question!! I’m also a family man and just started my own family so I feel you about being away from family. I would say it feels good to know you can provide for you family by being in the military. I know my family won’t need for anything because I can provide for them. Also by being in the military your family will be covered by the best medical and dental and won’t have to hardly pay anything. It’s a great experience and stepping stone that will help you and your family out a lot.

    @ezrahenderson9424 5 лет назад +7

    I would also recommend having a list of rates.I got my 3rd choice Am. I had about 12 rates that I'd be good with doing. Really spend time researching jobs and know what you want. I knew I wanted to go out to sea, gain a skill applicable to the civilian world, and I didn't want a Desk job or to cook. Oh and don't let them pressure you at meps. If you need to sleep on it do what you gotta do.

    • @theofficialdaveharris8794

      1970sBush SWGOH That is some great advice because it’s always good to have a back up plan Incase your plan doesn’t work out. Sleeping on it is another good one because this is going to be one of the biggest choices in your life, you should take your time.

    I recently went to the recruitment office and I was asking about being a IT, but he directed me towards being a Nuclear Electronic Technician because of my ASVAB score. I enjoyed what he told me about the perks of the job and I was wondering if there was any downsides to it.

    • @theofficialdaveharris8794
      @theofficialdaveharris8794  5 лет назад

      Trevor Carpenter that’s great I personally never worked side by side with a nuke but what I hear is that they are very smart but wired. They have a wired Sense of humor. I also hear the signing bonuses are amazing and the money you make in the civilian world is crazy.

    • @LauraZorza
      @LauraZorza 5 лет назад +1

      Many Nukes leave the Navy because yes, the pay on the civilian side is a crazy amount. That is another reason Nukes get great signing/re-enlistment bonus, because after all the schooling, the Navy wants to keep them.

    • @LauraZorza
      @LauraZorza 5 лет назад

      Datboii Veli, LS is a great rate in my opinion mainly because they can be attached to all commands unlike other rates. So, you have the opportunity to serve with a squadron and ship, which most rates will never do. They also have a higher advancement rate than most rates. And now LS’s learn everything in the postal service.

      Only MEPS and the Recruiter can answer that question. A lot has to do with where the hardware is located, age of the fracture, current issues with mobility and pain, etc. I fractured my left fibula while serving and now I have limited mobility. Just be honest about your medical or it will come back to haunt you. And if they say no, you can check back every few months, because it will change. Needs of the Navy.
